Arsenal moving closer to agreement with Brighton for Ben White. #BHAFC want guaranteed ~£50m, Arsenal offering ~£45m + £5m. Face-to-face talks have taken place & negotiations continue over add-ons, payment structure etc. No other bidders yet

Kieran Tierney 'feels amazing' after signing long-term Arsenal contract extension

Kieran Tierney has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

"It feels amazing, when the manager came to me and said that the club wanted to extend my deal and that they were so happy at how I've come on it was amazing for me to hear," Tierney told Arsenal's website.

"I've worked so hard since I joined - I had a hard first season with injuries and Covid, but last season really picked up for me and the club have been brilliant with me. So I am more than happy to extend it."

He added: "I think the vision of the club and where it wants to go, the expectations of the club is where I want to be in football, at the top.

"There's no doubt about it that we're not where we want to be just now but we're going in the right direction.

"The way the club is run from the inside is amazing, I love everyone - all the staff, the players, the manager and working with them is an absolute joy.

"So being happy in life speaks for a lot and I am happy and more than happy to commit my future."

Inter Milan are interested in signing Arsenal's Hector Bellerin, Sky in Italy are reporting.

The Serie A champions want the Spanish right-back on loan with an option to buy him next summer.

Arsenal value Bellerin in the region of £17m (€20m) and Inter see him as a replacement for Paris Saint-Germain-bound Achraf Hakimi.

Inter, who have been forced into selling players to accrue funds due to the impact of Covid 19, also have an interest in Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta, who was on loan at Genoa last season.

Arsenal to make third bid for Ben White as deals for Nuno Tavares and Albert Lokonga edge closer

Arsenal are expected to make a third bid for Brighton defender Ben White after having their initial two offers rejected for the centre-back.

The clubs are in continued talks over the England international with Arsenal remaining hopeful they can reach a deal, but Brighton have not made their valuation public.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom is understood to be happy to let White leave if he desires - provided his valuation is met.

The Gunners are also closing in on the signings of Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares and Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Defender Tavares is currently in quarantine in London and will have his final medical checks later this week before completing his switch for a fee understood to be worth £8m.

Tavares has been brought in to provide competition for first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle for Lokonga and are in the process of finalising the payment structure of a £17m deal.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's relationship with Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany, who he worked with at Manchester City, helped get the transfer over the line.

Despite Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevali's claims Arsenal made a concrete offer for midfielder Manuel Locatelli, it is understood the Premier League side have not made an offer despite holding interest in the player.

They also remain interested in Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and are expected to make a formal approach once his involvement in Euro 2020 with England is over.

Arsenal in the market for a keeper to compete for the number one spot with Bernd Leno. They were also looking at Brighton's Mat Ryan having had him on loan last season but the Australian is now on the verge of joining Real Sociedad.

Hector Bellerin, 26, wants to quit Arsenal and join Italian champions Inter Milan. The Spanish full-back was linked with a move away from the Emirates last term and Paris St-Germain then mentioned as the most likely destination. (FourFourTwo)

Spain defender Sergio Ramos, 35, turned down offers from Arsenal and Manchester City before joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. (Goal)

Premier League champions Manchester City were followed by TV cameras during the 2017-18 season in a deal worth more than £10m.

Tottenham took centre stage in 2020, as the north London side became the second team to participate in the show.

Arsenal have signed Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares in a deal worth about £8m.

The 21-year-old, who played against Arsenal in the Europa League last season, is the Gunners' first signing of the summer.

He made 25 first-team appearances for the Lisbon club and also been capped for Portugal Under-21s.

"He is a young player with great promise who has developed very well," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

"Nuno's arrival will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, particularly with this energy on the left side of the pitch.

Arsenal transfer news: Ben White wants move from Brighton, Emile Smith Rowe contract talks 'positive'

Brighton defender Ben White wants a move to Arsenal to happen as talks continue between the clubs after two rejected bids.

The England defender loves Brighton but feels the time is right for a new challenge.

Brighton will not stand in his way, provided their valuation is met, with Arsenal having had two bids worth £40m and £47m rejected.

Arsenal remain hopeful a deal can be struck for the 23-year-old centre-back, who was part of Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad after making his international debut just before the tournament.

Meanwhile, talks over a new contract for Emile Smith Rowe are moving "positively", with all parties hopeful a deal can be agreed.

Smith Rowe's current deal is up in 2023 and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is "100 per cent staying" after Aston Villa saw two bids rejected - the latest for £30m.

In other updates:

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has told Arsenal he wants a new challenge.

Talks continue with Inter over a transfer, and while Arsenal want a permanent deal - or at least a loan with an obligation to buy - the Serie A champions prefer a loan with an option to buy.

Bellerin would welcome the move to Italy, and with his Arsenal contract up in 2023, he will not be extending his stay at the Emirates.

The 26-year-old is with the Arsenal squad in Scotland and came off the bench in Tuesday's pre-season defeat at Hibernian.

Albert Sambi Lokonga's move from Anderlecht to Arsenal will be finalised once the player is out of quarantine.

Lokonga is in London after a deal was agreed last week. He will need to take final medical checks before the deal is officially announced, with the fee believed to be around £15m

Arsenal defender William Saliba is in Marseille for a medical ahead of signing a season-long loan deal, which features no option to buy.

Arsenal to sign Brighton's Ben White in £50m deal

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle for the £50m transfer of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

White was a late call-up to Gareth Southgate's England Euro 2020 squad.

It completes a meteoric rise for the 23-year-old, who was released by Southampton as a youngster before being signed by Brighton.

He went on a number of loans from the Seagulls, including to Leeds' Championship title-winning side in 2019-20.

White's performances for Leeds attracted the attention of many leading clubs and prompted Brighton to secure him on a new four-year contract last summer.

That deal put the Seagulls in a strong negotiating position this summer and it is understood they rejected two bids from the Gunners before agreement was finally reached amid interest from other Premier League clubs.

White is on holiday so the transfer, including his medical, will not be completed until he returns.

The transfer comes as Arsenal part ways with Brazil defender David Luiz after his contract expired.

The Gunners have also signed 21-year-old left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica for £8m this summer.

50 million on Ben White? Seriously?

Worth it. He could develop into something special and has a higher ceiling than any CB at the club.

He is outstanding on the ball, very quick, had leadership qualities and better temperament and discipline than Luiz.

I think he is a good signing for Arsenal. Not a great CB right now but maybe can develop in a couple of years or so. Better as a CDM for now

Arsenal are set to go on a £100m spending spree with Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar set to join Ben White in signing for the club next week, say the Daily Star Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side were linked with a move for the 23-year-old last summer.

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Brighton centre-back White for £50m.

Sky Sports News reported Arsenal had a £40m bid rejected in June with another move for a price of £47m subsequently rejected.

But with discussions continuing into July, the two Premier League clubs seem to have reached an agreement on a deal that will see Brighton get a guaranteed £50m from structured payments with no add ons.

Albert Sambi Lokonga leaves Anderlecht to join Gunners on 'long-term contract'

Welcome to north London, Albert!
— Arsenal (@Arsenal) July 19, 2021

Arsenal have completed the signing of Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The 21-year-old joins Arsenal on a long-term contract after making 78 appearances for Anderlecht, where he played under former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Arsenal have confirmed the Belgium U21 international will join up with his new team-mates in the coming days after completing a mandatory isolation period.

"Albert is a very intelligent player who has shown great maturity in his performances during his development," said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

"He has been coached well by Vincent Kompany and his team at Anderlecht. I know Vincent very well and he talks so highly about Albert and the positive impact he had to Anderlecht in recent seasons.

"We're confident Albert's ready for the next stage in his development and we're looking forward to welcoming a new member to our squad with his quality and presence."

Technical director Edu added: "We are delighted Albert has signed with us, as there was a lot of interest in him and he was a big target for us.

"Albert is a player we've been tracking for some time, and he will bring us strength in depth in the centre of midfield. We look forward to his continued development with us."

Florida Cup: Arsenal withdraw due to 'small number' testing positive for Covid-19

Arsenal have cancelled their pre-season trip to the US after a "small number" of their touring party tested positive for Covid-19.

The Gunners were scheduled to play in the Florida Cup with Inter Milan, Everton and Colombia's Millonarios.

The club did not specify how many members of their touring group tested positive, nor if any were players.

"This difficult decision is based on ensuring the health and wellbeing of players and staff," a statement read.

The club said they were "glad to say" none of those who had tested positive were currently displaying symptoms, but all were in self-isolation at their respective homes.

Premier League pre-season fixtures: Where's your club playing this summer?
"We fully understand what a disappointment this is for our supporters in America, who were looking forward to seeing us compete in the Florida Cup as part of our pre-season build-up," the statement added.

"Our apologies also go to the organisers of the Florida Cup who had done a fantastic job making the preparations and our partners who had arranged events around our participation in the competition."

"We are now making alternative arrangements in line with the Premier League protocols to continue our preparations for the new season."

The shortened Florida Cup is set to begin on Sunday at Camping World Stadium, Orlando, but organisers have not announced if Arsenal will be replaced by another side.

Emile Smith Rowe signs new long-term Arsenal contract

Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

The 20-year-old has also been given the No 10 shirt, previously worn by Mesut Ozil, for the upcoming season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: "As we all saw last season, Emile is an intelligent player with excellent ability.

"His sharpness on the turn and exceptional vision have already made him a key player for us. His attitude and willingness to learn have also been very impressive.

"I know the fans will join us in being delighted that Emile has committed his future to the club. We're now looking forward to helping him develop further and seeing him become even more important to the strong young team we're building."

Smith Rowe impressed during the second half of last season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 33 appearances in all competitions as Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League.

Arsenal rejected two bids from Aston Villa for Smith Rowe this summer, with the second offer believed to be in the region of £30m.

Smith Rowe is an England youth international and has previously had loan spells at Huddersfield and RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have an agreement in principle with Brighton over the potential signing of defender Ben White in a deal that could be worth in excess of £50m.

The club also remain in talks with Roma over the sale of Granit Xhaka and despite a small gap in valuation, all parties are confident a resolution will be found.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce says he still wants to bring Joe Willock back to the club but is waiting on Arsenal and the player himself to decide his future

Arsenal are considering a third bid worth in the region of £25m to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have seen two bids turned down for the 23-year-old so far this summer.

Any potential deal for Ramsdale is likely to include significant add-ons, with the latest bid from Arsenal believed to include an initial fee of £18m plus add-ons which would take the total amount above £25m.

Reports of an incoming bid worth £30m are wide of the mark, Sky Sports News has been told.

Ramsdale, capped at U18 to U21 level by England, rejoined Sheffield United last summer in an £18.5m deal from relegated Bournemouth.

Ramsdale was Sheffield United's player of the season despite their relegation last term and the same was the case in his final season at Bournemouth in 2019/20.

He was part of England's Euro 2020 squad that reached the final but is yet to make his full international debut.

Arsenal have already signed Nuno Tavares from Benfica and Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht so far this summer.

Arsenal have an agreement in principle with Brighton over the potential signing of defender Ben White in a deal that could be worth in excess of £50m.

The club also remain in talks with Roma over the sale of Granit Xhaka and despite a small gap in valuation, all parties are confident a resolution will be found.

Like most sides Arsenal are not making any major signings. The Covid has greatly effected the market on a whole. Could be a last minute rush before the window shuts.

Arsenal are interested in signing James Maddison from Leicester City but are still monitoring Martin Odegaard's situation at Real Madrid...

Arsenal have signed England defender Ben White from Brighton in a £50m deal.

White, who was a late call-up to Gareth Southgate's England Euro 2020 squad, has signed a five-year deal with the option of a further year and will wear the No 4 shirt.

Arsenal saw two bids for the 23-year-old rejected before an agreement was reached with Brighton, who have inserted a sell-on clause.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Granit Xhaka will stay at the club this season, but there is an injury scare after Thomas Partey limped off during a pre-season friendly.

Roma made offers to sign Xhaka this summer - and while a transfer looked likely, Arsenal's valuation was never met by the Serie A side.

Arteta said on Friday that Xhaka remained a "key part" of his plans, but has now gone a step further by confirming the 28-year-old Swiss midfielder will remain at the Emirates this season.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is close to agreeing a new contract with the club.

The 28-year-old's current deal is up in 2023 with the player strongly linked with a move to Jose Mourinho's Roma side this summer.

And despite Roma making offers to sign the Swiss midfielder, Arsenal's valuation was never met by the Serie A side.

Xhaka's new contract ends in 2025, by which point he will be 33 and even tougher to sell than now. Masterstroke from Arsenal once again :facepalm

He was going for peanuts as it is, and I don’t think Arsenal have it in them to replace him with anything better considering their non champion’s league status.

Arsenal are a totally messed up club who need a billion euro transfer window to get them out of this mess they are in.

They genuinely need to target a €100-150m (including wages) player in each pivotal position. We are not getting out of this until we do not go the Liverpool route

So Xhaka is not only straying but he's even managed to get a new contract extension.

Xhaka's performances for Switzerland have always been of a higher standard then what he's put in for Arsenal. So I get the feeling that once he puts the Arsenal shirt on he'll fall back into his average performances with the regulatory three to four red cards every season.

Don't forget about the bump in pay.

I know... From being an outcast with fans booing him, to almost leaving the club, he's now back on a longer contract with more pay on the back of some distinctly average performances...

Apart from Saka who could Leicester want?. They have to give Willock a chance and Reiss Nelson might need more time

They wouldn't take any players, Arsenal would just have to pay the cash, he is a decent player who could improve them but i dont see why he would want to leave Leic for Arsenal.

London life is the only pull here. Would take that any day over leicester lol

Leicester is doing better at the moment but let’s not kid ourselves - Arsenal will always be a far bigger club and no player in his right mind would pick the former over the latter.

When you are playing for Leicester and any of the big 6 come calling, you will be tempted. It is that simple.

Maddison is a very good player, quite underrated. He is more of a direct CAM than ESR and Arsenal need someone like him - he can score goals, free-kick, long-range shots - he has qualities that no one in the midfield has at the moment.

You can play ESR on the left flank with Maddison in the middle. He gives a lot of options and you can see why Arsenal is highly interested.

English, only 24, and would form an excellent nucleus with Saka and ESR for years to come.

Leicester have the best scouting network in the league. They can replace him with an equally good player for peanuts. It would be a shame if this deal breaks down because of a few million quids.

With covid restrictions most likly coming back and staying for a while doesnt really matter what the life is.

Where are you getting this from? Has the Chief Scientific officer dropped you a text somewhere?

Newcastle have agreed a fee in the region of £25m with Arsenal for midfielder Joe Willock.

Personal terms are yet to be finalised, but Newcastle will be keen to complete the deal in time for Willock to be available for the opening game of the season against West Ham on Sunday.

Willock was left out of Sunday's pre-season friendly at Tottenham, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta saying: "We will explain the reasons when we can."

Arsenal have reportedly pulled out of talks to sign Sheffield United and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal getting the 2021/2022 Premier League under way against Brentford tomorrow night.

I'm expecting big things from Tierney if he stays fit and looking to Pepe to justify his huge price tag. He finished strongly at the back end last season so lets see if can continue that form.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce hopes to sign Joe Willock on a six-year deal by 12:00 BST so he can play against West Ham on Sunday.

The Arsenal midfielder, 21, completed a medical on Friday morning and Bruce said he would train before assessing whether he would feature in Newcastle's game at St James' Park.

The deal is in excess of £20m after a successful loan spell last season.

"We had to be patient but it was worth the wait," Bruce said.

"Where else can you find a 21-year-old who scored seven on the trot [on loan last season] and plays like him? Fair play to everyone to get it done."

England under-21 international Willock scored eight goals for Newcastle while on loan in the second half of last season, including seven in consecutive games, to help steer the club away from the relegation zone.

Bruce admitted that at one point he "did not think the deal would happen" after Arsenal turned down a loan approach.

But he said that a permanent deal "was great for us" and would improve the team as they seek to better last season's 12th-placed finish in the Premier League.

"The big thing for us is to try and improve on last year," Bruce added.

"We had a good start and a good finish, but an awful winter time. We need to be lucky with injuries and certainly with Joe in team we looked a threat and to score those goals he gave us something different and he improves us.

"Little by little we try to improve."

BBC

Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid over re-signing attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal.

Reports in Spain indicate Odegaard will not be part of the Real squad for their opening game of the La Liga season at Alaves on Saturday.

Odegaard, 22, spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal, making 14 appearances under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and experienced strike partner Alexandre Lacazette were both ruled out of the Premier League opener against Brentford because they were “unwell”, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

When pressed to give more detail on their absence, the Arsenal boss was tight-lipped.

“They feel unwell, that’s all I can say,” he told Sky Sports before kick-off at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Both itching to leave it seems.

2-0 so far to Brentford....think they better get un-unwell before the next game!

Awful pre season and now an awful result against a newly promoted side.

This is humiliating

Trash by Arsenal but this just didn't look like an Arsenal side.

Trash by Arsenal but this just didn't look like an Arsenal side.

A lot of young players but they played exactly like they did for over a season now.
I'm afraid they played just like their usual self.
Passing it around with no cutting edge up front and bullied off the ball at the back.

So many crossed into the box with no players hungry to get on the end of it.
It's the same old stuff

Pepe should have scored when Tierney laid the ball on a plate for him but hit it near post at the keeper instead of across the goal.

Lol Arsenal are so bad. Imagine signing Ben White for £50 million. Most people didn't even know who he was before the Euros. He wasn't even Brighton's best cb. That is Lewis Dunk. You have a bad squad and you got a bad manager. That is a recipe of disaster.

But I hope Arteta stays, because AFTV & chill. :afridi

Hes a decent prospect but his max value is £30m, i would have bought Tyrone Mings instead.

Fully agree with what you say about James Maddison. If you were to compare Odegaard and Maddision, who do you think Arsenal should go for? We're more likely to go for Odegaard since he's worth 50M whereas Madisson is 60M. I feel Odegaard will be decent but won't have a major impact to the point that rival fans will feel jealous.

Need atleast a couple of attackers in (To play alongside Aubamayeng. Lacazete is abysmal ) and a creative source.

ESR is good but he is not going to contribute too much in G/As. Not sure Odegaard is the answer either. Can see them having a worse season than the last one

Reports that both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are looking to move away from Arsenal.

Rwandan President and Arsenal fan Paul Kagame has vented his frustration at the club's shock defeat by a newly promoted club on the opening day of the English Premier League season.

Brentford, after a 74-year absence from top-tier football, beat Arsenal 2-0.

Mr Kagame often comments on the Gunners - a club sponsored by his government.

After Friday's away game, he tweeted: "We just must NOT excuse or accept mediocrity. A team has to be built with purpose to win win win."

In two further rapid-fire tweets, he demanded "a plan that really works" and lamented that "fans don't deserve to kind of get used to this".

Since 2018, the Rwandan government has had a controversial sponsorship deal worth more than £30m ($42m), which involves a "Visit Rwanda" logo displayed on Arsenal shirt sleeves.

Critics have said it is an example of the authoritarian leader of a poor, African country subsidising a wealthy football club. But the Rwandan government says the sponsorship more than pays for itself over in tourism revenue.

Under President Kagame, the landlocked country has recovered from ethnic strife and genocide in the 1990s. In 2018 the World Bank praised its "remarkable development successes".

But Mr Kagame has faced criticism at home and abroad over its political and human rights record.

I think Odegaard is excellent but I would prefer Maddison because he will add something different to the team. He is a more direct CAM and will add more goals and assists and prove to be effective from set-pieces.

I loved Odegaard last season who provided some important goals for Arsenal to move forward, but Maddison is much better however Arsenal will not fork out 60M for him given how cheap they are. They should have used the 50M they spent on Ben White and the 25M they earned from Joe Willock to fill the massive gaping hole they have in the midfield.

Arsenal should be going for players like Ruben Neves whos available for £35M or Saul for £40m, with the covid situation there are bargains available with not many takers, all Arsenal need is a decent manager who can build a good squad and make them compete for top 4 again rather then wasting money on trash like Ben White.

Our transfer policy is a mess.
At one stage Xhaka was leaving to join Roma and then he suddenly gets an extension on his contract (which presumably means more money).

They sell Willock even though Arteta had said he is our future. To be fair to Willock, out of that generation of players which includes Nelson and Maitland-Niles, Willock is head and shoulders above those two.

We have decent shot stopper as the goal keeper but other then that everything else he does is bang average. Does anyone even know the name of the back-up keeper?

With regards to Odegaard Vs Maddison, I have my doubts as to whether they were ever really interested in signing Maddison and now it seems the price for Odegaard has dropped from £50m to £36m. In that sense, they've done well if they get him at that price but Maddison offers something more then last season. Odegaard is good but he's not the answer to our problems.

Chambers is not the answer at right back, we'r still short at CB, lack a creative midfielder to partner ESR and Sakha and have no goal scorers up front.

All this is unacceptable and wreaks of unprofessionalism.

We're in a real pickle now with no goal scorers in the team and a bunch of youngsters who are struggling for direction.
