[AUDIO/VIDEO] Sarfaraz Ahmed's derogatory comments to Andile Phehlukwayo...

What a fool.

In an interview this guy was still laughing about the event and still doesnt understand how his words were derogatory. He is infact blaming pcb for his ban.....
This racist cricketer still sees the funny side of his racist remark

Many from rural areas of subcontinent still talk like this. They do not find it racist as they are not exposed to international sensitivities.
Sarfraz is a well traveled man. He should have been aware of the racism issues in the west. Very poor from him.

Does not justify it.

It is racist, as they are judging the person by their skin color.

So would you go up to a black person and say *******?

Just playing devil's advocate here so don't want to upset anyone's sentiments. But I feel that black men refer to themselves as black men. So calling someone a black man is not inherently racist as there is nothing wrong with being black. If calling someone Kala is racist then calling someone Gora should be too. Yet one is okay the other is not. Using the N word is completely different.

Too many people here failing to understand culture and context. Not supporting or endorsing what he said , but to label the man racist is just over the top.

Here is the video clip

The interviewer tried to make light of it, like some lads thing in Karachiwallas.

Sarfaraz explained the incident including how the ICC ban came into play due to a mistake by PCB's media guys who tweeted pics of a meeting between players which they had been told not to tweet, and also tried to explain that it was a kind of thing players say on the field to each other when talking about someone's good luck.

Watch the clip and make your own judgement.

anyone whos seen local pak cricket games know people are called names like "chitta, kala, kalia, etc", in Pakistan that goes, but referring to people by their skin colour (if they are not the same colour as you) is not accepted in most western social norms.

sarfraz may not have any maliciousness behind the comment, but for someone that ignorant to become captain of Pakistan's cricket team is a sad indictment of how unworldly these guys are.

You need to watch "Exterminate all the beasts."

The West has no moral authority to dictate what's right or wrong.

You can easily something like "he is the black guy sitting in the corner." to point out or identify someone.

Black people refer to themselves as black. The N word is offensive, black is not. Similarly, people say brown all the time, brown man or brown food, or brown families to refer to South Asians or Mexicans.

Nadir Ali needs to stick to do comedy videos. He has started doing interviews lately and his style of asking questions is very unprofessional.

Also, Sarfraz seems to have no remorse about the whole incident which shows his lack of awareness.

Sarfaraz might not be a racist , but he traveled enough to know these issues. Very poor from him

Might not be racist because these sort of things are quite common in the subcontinent. Remember Darren Sami and his time in IPL where they called him "kala" something? When he found out, he wanted an apology.

Point is, for a person to be a captain and to make this mistake is one thing. But to learn nothing out of it, it's nothing but idiotic, and perhaps he is a racist if he doesn't see the problem with this.

Would you say then that Pakistan as a nation is racist?

Because from school days in Karachi to today, I see terms referring to people's physical attributes (including mota, kala etc) used in everyday language.

Whats funny is how people are justifying racism that oh its nothing, its alright to refer people by their skin color. No its not.

In subcontinent we use kala as derogatory term.... There is no justification for it .

By the same stupid logic, USA of the early years used to use the n word as a way of refering to black people. To them it was another name. But it was yet offensive.

And for the pakistanis living in west and thinking that this is a western issues, no its not.

Racism is a global issue. But i think communities only care about themselves and not others.

Pakistan as a nation is racist and also discriminated.. thing is no one talks about it.

We call christians as choora (garbage picker), we dont eat food from their hands. We have people who think all christians are garbage pickers....

The term kala is used as an insult. The whole whitning cream campaign in the subcontinent is offensive as we have made being darked skin as ugliness.

I don't think Sarfraz initial comment was racist. It was ignorant but not racist.

However his subsequent lack of remorse and down playing of the incident is poor.

It shows that even after education and awareness that some people will always be ignorant.

Sarfraz called Andile a "kala" in a derogatory way so it certainly was racist. This shouldn't even be up for debate.

sure bro, u show the west ur moral superiority by referring to black people like that. im sure its gonna bring revolutionary change, lol.

no you dont, its not considered professional to do so.

Dont cook up things. I've never heard anyone insult Christians as a "choora" or not eat their cooked food. Majority of janitorial class in some cities of Punjab is Christian, but there is significant number of them who are cooks and in other professions, and everyone eats their cooked stuff. Again, no one thinks all garbage pickers are Christians (they are actually Pathans in most urban places), yes a significant number of janitorial staff are Christains, which is because the missionaries of pre-Independence specifically targeted certain communities for conversion into Christianity.

Plus, kala is not always used as an insult. In most conversations you just refer to unique attributes of a person just as a reference point. Gora/kala/lamba/mota/patla/ghungralai balon wala/ganja/etc these are just part of our everyday conversations without any ill-intent from any party. There is even an old song "Sanwli saloni" celebrating dark features of a lady. Western teams are often referred to as Gorai even by ex-cricketers. West Indies are often called "Kali andhi" in news etc, not at all in an insulting manner.

We need to learn to appreciate a difference between racism and conversations which are purely rhetorical with no ill-intent.

Christians are referred to as chooras. It's true. Karachiites are referred to as bhaiyay. Sialkoti's are referred to with a derogatory tone as well which I don't want to say here. Using the word kulloo is very common for dark skinned people.

Pakistanis are casual racists, we don't realise it because most times it is unharmful.

Thats all fine But its the world "Black" he used thats the issue Not the rest

It’s simple - if you don’t like Sarfraz you’ll find something racist in it.

It was a simple comment - maybe I’ll judged but it was an opportunity for some of our supporters to show anger at Sarfraz because of their inferiority complex

Calling someone by the colour of their skin is always wrong, regardless of whether it's normal in Pakistan culture or not. It's wrong.

Sarfraz was wrong and embarrasing, thank God he was removed from captaincy.

I don't think Sarfaraz is the type of guy to racially abuse anyone intentionally.

Maybe he didn't think through what he was saying, but what he did say was uncomfortable and unecessary.

And he has now become ambassador of Nelson Mandela talent hunt program

Pakistan's former Test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as the brand ambassador of first-of-its-kind Nelson Mandela talent hunt program for U19 cricketers of Karachi.

Hailed from Karachi, Sarfaraz, who won U19 World Cup for Pakistan in 2006, endorsed Nelson Mandela talent hunt program which will provide opportunities to budding cricketers of his city.

"It is a great opportunity for all U19 cricketers of Karachi. I am very much confident that this step will change the landscape of Karachi's cricket," said the Champions Trophy 2017 winning captain while addressing media at National Bank Stadium.

Nelson Mandela talent hunt program will conduct trials to select players in different zones of the city. As many as 60 players will be selected through trials after which four teams will be made. Thereafter, a team of 15 players will be sent to South Africa for gaining exposure.

"I am really excited about this initiative. I would like to thank South African High Commissioner, his Excellency Mthuthuzeli Madikiza for putting efforts to launch this initiative," the wicketkeeper batter said.

Trials for U19 cricketers will take place in third Week of May. Sarfaraz alongside Fawad Alam and other Karachi cricketers will supervise the trials.
