Andrew McDonald speaking during Post-Day 2 presser:

“We're not surprised by Scotty's performances. Every time he plays, he does the job well.”

“His ability to just be relentless on a length move the ball both ways, it's proving difficult, in particular on this (SCG) surface.”

“He's always a genuine consideration Scotty, and every time he pitches up in the Australian colous he delivers.”

“We're lucky to have those four quicks in Josh Hazlewood, (Pat) Cummins and (Mitchell) Stark and Boland.”

“It's one thing to have a plan, but then to be able to execute that, the way that we have to Virat, (to) put him under immense pressure.”

“And look, he's tried some things, he's walked out of his crease, he's tried different tactics as well, but clearly that relentless nature of in particular Scotty Boland in that matchup's been incredibly difficult for him to come back, but he's never an easy wicket.”

“Low scoring games like this, it just heightens the pressure within it, so a long way still to go, there's going to be plenty of cricket, so we'll see what happens.”

“(The loss of quick wickets are) just a symptom of where Test cricket is at.”

“I think the quality of bowling, upfront, I think both attacks are blessed with some generational talent that we're witnessing.”

“So we're not surprised by the nature of the games where a new batter coming in is always vulnerable, and we've seen that across the journey.”

“But if you can get a partnership going, then you've shown that you can score runs on these surfaces.”

“I think that's more for a conversation with the Indian team who they put out there, who they bowl when they bowl them it is up to them and we'll respond to what they give us.”

“First and foremost we've got four wickets to get, try to keep that total as low as possible.”

“You could say that it would be slightly beneficial for us, he can bowl on any surface anywhere, he's a threat any time we knew that coming into the series and he's an incredibly talented bowler.”

“If he wasn't to be there, then India would have to come up with a new plan.”

“We're here to win a series. Would we get great satisfaction out of winning a series against India? There's no doubt about that.”

“We’ve won the toss and bowled a little bit of late, so we've put ourselves in those positions (of chasing) more often.”

“I think if you've been there and done it before, then yeah, you take confidence in that to be able to navigate through those scenarios, in particular the lower order which potentially may be called upon tomorrow.”

The selectors are winning it for Australia

McSweeney, who was not performing, was replaced with Sam Konstas.

Similarly, Mitchell Marsh was replaced with Webster.

Both the Australian media and their board supported Khawaja during his tough times.

In contrast, India hesitates to try new players even when some are out of form.

Lol at Aussie coach for insinuating Indian team of intimidating a youngster like Konstas.

It's so rich coming from an Aussie!

Konstas actually doesn't behave like a proper youngster... He should learn from Sachin Tendulkar for behavior and not Kohli

Allan Border Criticizes SCG Pitch: 'Bit Of A Lottery... Not A Fan'

Legendary former Australia captain Allan Border is not a fan of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) pitch for the last Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test. He criticized it as ‘a bit of a lottery’, saying it was ‘too bowler friendly’ where batters can never feel settled and might get out without doing much wrong.

The SCG Test is likely to become the first in the series to end within three days. No team has gone past 200 here yet, with India scoring 185 in the first innings and bowling Australia out for four runs fewer in the second. The visitors ended the day at 141/6, with a lead of 145 runs and the last two recognised batters in Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at the crease.

“At the moment it’s doing heaps. It’s swinging as well as seaming," Border said, as quoted by Fox Cricket. “As a batsman, it’s a bit of a lottery… I’m not a big fan of those sort of tracks. I haven’t seen a pitch like this (in Sydney), where it’s probably just too bowler-friendly."

“It feels like you’re never in (on this pitch). You can just get a jaffa … hits the edge and you’re out, and you haven’t done anything too much wrong, played the line. It does make for entertaining cricket, I suppose … if the bowlers are in the ascendancy in Test cricket, it tends to be a better game. So far from what I’ve seen, it’s a bit too lively, just a fraction. It’s a fine line, it’s hard to get it exactly right."

Border joined Sunil Gavaskar, the other half of the men on whose name the series is now named, in expressing his disapproval of the pitch. The Indian great had been critical of the pitch since Saturday, saying it had enough grass to make cows graze on it.

He reiterated that stance earlier on Sunday.

“If 15 wickets fell [on one day] in India, all hell would have broken loose. We had Glenn McGrath saying he’d never seen so much grass. Did you hear any former India cricketer moan about the pitch? When we go out and play cricket, we will tough it out. And if we are beaten, we are beaten. Overseas it’s very difficult to beat home teams," Gavaskar said on ABC Radio.

INdia is paying penalty for carrying these oldies. A completely brand new young team would have won the series. This farewell tour for Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja has hurt India really badly.

So, Bumrah got injured. Not sure if he will bowl further in this game.

He was acting all smug against 19-year old Konstas. He got injured the next day.

Lesson: Don't be arrogant. Be humble. You don't know what will happen tomorrow.

Good on them but It’s their home they are atleast expected to win here even without so many player changes.
They haven't won a single BGT for a decade they need to win this to atleast keep it interesting.

Lol, Australians like Ponting, Gilly, Langer, Moody themselves are saying it was Konstas' fault to poke his nose between Bumrah and Khawajah but the wannabe Pakistani thinks otherwise.

Will this allow him to get into their good books? I doubt.

Thank God Kohli ran off after 36 all out. Had he been there, we would have surely lost each and every test test of that series.

Exactly. We grossly under-estimate how harmful the presence of Rohit, Kohli is in this series. There is no way Australia would have gotten away without these two. Rohit's captaincy was incredibly stupid. Probably the worst. He let guys like Boland, Southee, Lyon to bat for long periods. Bowled Bumrah to ground not utilizing other bowlers. Now Social media is exposing Rohit and his PR machinery. This Rohit looks like a complete conman behind the scene. He seems to have ruined the career of so many people with his PR machinery. Planting stories, having celebrtieis to praise him. More i read more it is sickening. can't wait for these two guys leaving Indian cricket for good.

Aus cant really relax. The dropped chances of Jadeja in both innings is gonna hurt them. Any lead over 200 and even Reddy can run riot against this Aus batting lineup.

If you take away the pink ball match Starc is not having a good series.

Can't agree more. Have been saying this for long, these 2 (along with Rahul and Jadeja) are like cancers for Indian cricket.

I still can't fathom whose decision it was to make Rohit our test captain? The guy has forever been tactically clueless. It's one thing to lead his IPL team to title triumph multiple times and diametrically opposite to lead India in a test even against bottom dwellers, Bangladesh.

Further on Rohit's captaincy, had he been any good tactically, we'd have won the ODI WC in 2023.

We won T20 WC despite him, not due to him.

yes. There is no way someone like MSD would have lost that match.
Rohit's fast starts in the ODI WC did us more harm than good especially in the long term as in we still have to bear with him in test cricket despite him scoring just 1 away ton in his test career. Hope that'll remain his only away ton in tests.

Bumrah and rest of the Indian team were behaving like animals.

Konstas did the right thing by standing up for his teammate.

He cannot bat more than 5 or 6 overs. Hope he never gets picked. He came back disrupted everything and left.

I'm sure we'll have someone who'll not only give us fast starts in ODIs but also can stay alive after first power play which Rohit can't, more often than not.

Hopefully Aussies will wrap it up tomorrow so that arrogant Indian fans and players will get a time out for self-reflection.

3-1 Aussie win would mean India would have a 1-6 record over the past 8 Tests (6 losses, 1 draw, and 1 win).

:qdkcheeky

Bumrah's injury is entirely on Rohit sharma. Just because he sucked with bat he added an extra batsman in Sundar down the order. He didn't use him for both bowling and batting. If India had gone with extra seamer in the last match Bumrah would not have been injured. He also rejigged the batting order to accommodate himself at the top. He made sure Ashwin and Jadeja's places insecure and forced Ashwin to retire. Such a cunning fellow. I

Bumrah's injury is Bumrah's fault. he didn't keep himself fit.

Look at his belly. He shouldn't have that belly as a pace bowler. A pace bowler should be fitter than that.

Bumrah with his illegal action and kohli with his arrogance give india the advantage. They already have a winning total. Auss batting is weak. A crap team like West indies beat them. Pakistani butterfingers dropped the test series in Australia which is normal :ROFLMAO: 🤣 (y)

Would not expect this statement from an Aussie coach
It would have been unimaginable in the past era.

It would have been, fight ? Bring it on.

I some time feel, ove the top drama ( off the field ) is done to generate eyeballs in BGT by both sides and nothing else. Drama on field is genuine but not sure about all these off field statements from both sides.

Maybe I am old fashioned but this type of statement makes them look very weak and timid. It will give Indians incentive to rile him up for in the future knowing they are intimidated so easily.

If it is indeed to generate eyeballs in BGT then it's poor marketing. The best way to get people glued to the match is to play competitive and intense cricket.

Yah, you paint a target in future by doing it. I guess due to player being so young, coach may be genuinly ceoncerned, but best way to avoid such situation is to not start anything. I see Aus and Ind going hard at each other. I don't see the same voluem of poor bahaviours when Aus or India are playing other teams. It does happen time to time, but not at this level. Neither when other teams are playing against each other. It's always Aus and Ind blow this over the top in each series.

I personaly don't like sledging to disturb players, but if both teams want to do it then it's fine. I will prefer if you let ball and bat do your talking. A bit of stare like Ambrose used to do. That's enough for me. I don't like seeing when you already dismiss a batsmen then start giving him send off. What's the point, you already got rid of batsman, won the contest. Celebrate all you want, no need to rile up leaving batsman. It happens due to some history, but feel sense less at that point to me.

Can they squeeze out a lead of 200?

A lot rests on Sundar's batting and he'll need to be smarter about keeping the strike unlike last time.

Mark Waugh and Adam Gilchrist are commentating (along with Ravi Shastri).

Waugh and Gilly used to open batting together. Opening commentary now.

Jadeja is such a sorry excuse of a test cricketer especially in overseas tests.

Unless he is able to do something dramatic with ball later today, his test career should be done after this test.

It's better to just play your shots. Blocking/leaving the way they were doing is just waiting for the inevitable.

Sundar has been a massive disappointment in this series.

Sure, he has not been handled well by team management but he also did nothing either with bat or ball except from 1 50 in challenging circumstances to remotely suggest that he is an ideal replacement for Ashwin.

It was a good series but Australia were clearly the better team even though India had a chance to square up the series.
