Australia [272/9] beat India [237] by 35 runs in the 5th ODI, win series 3-2

Lovely to see Indian top order get out of form just before WC.

Your "out of form" needs a dictionary check.

Dhawan scored 143 in the last game, Rohit is on 50 now and Kohli is at the top of his game!

That's such an Afridi thing to do - hit it up in the air right after you've connected for a six.

Just rotate the strike.

Shankar getting out at the right time, maybe Zampa will be treated with more respect

Pant failed again. This means, the following will be the WC Squad.

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli
Dhoni
Jadhav
Shankar
Hardik
BK
Kuldeep
Chahal
Bumrah

Reserves will be KL Rahul and Shami.

Rohit made to look like a complete noob by Zampa today :)))

The 'Curse of the Caps' continues

We would be all out in the next 10 overs. No matter how much you hate Dhoni, he would have at least stuck at one end and carried it till the end by supporting the other set batsmen! These bunch of jokers are good for nothing and glad that this Aussie side is putting them in their place. Well played Aus! India deserves this humiliation and let all the overrated superstars learn a lesson!

Rohit gone!!

Our last 5 batsmen cannot score more than 30 runs together.

Aus should win this comfortably from here.

Top 3 have scored only 100 runs together for India. Not enough to beat any team considering our Tail starts right after Top 3.

Yes Yes.

Dhoni would solve all our middle order issues like he has been doing for the past 4 years.

Dhoni with his lower strike rate in the middle order has own many matches than Pandya + Jadhav + Pant + Rahul + Rayudu + DK + all the other overrated superstars put together! Keep crying and you deserve this humiliation!

Barring kohli all Indian batsmen prefer flat wickets.
Especially Rohit nd dhawan

Horrible series for India no way should have lost against Australia at home
Confidence booster for Aussies , dent for India

If Australia sees this through, this will be some come back from 2-0 down to clinch the series. When was the last time this was accomplished in a 5 match ODI series anyone?

I am no a superstitious person but even I am starting to believe in the "curse of the caps" theory. Hmmmm

Pak did that in 2005 winning 4-2 in India

Let me repeat again, Dhoni has not solved the middle order issue since 2014. He puts too much pressure on the other batsmen to hit all the big shots while he eases through at 70 s/r.

The question is who will Warner and Smith replace? Khawaja would have been one but I think he cemented his place after a terrific series here. He will be MOS. Finch is the captain and has cemented his place. Handscomb proved himself worthy.

South Africa beating us in 2002/03 is the one that I can recall as the last one.

Btw had Pakistan won that series 5-0 then we would have been No. 2 in ODI (with Australia pretty ahead). But Pakistan lost the last 3 matches of that series with last 2 ones pretty one-sided ones.

Dhoni is the master of 250-280 chases. That's his value. Indian bowling is good enough to dismiss teams in that range so he's very valuable.

News flash - All ODI cricket has been played on roads since 2000.

Ya most of times, but on a slightly difficult pitches likes of Rohit have failed. I dont remember Dhawan and Rohit ever playing a crucial knock on a tough pitch

Dhoni can chase low scores. I give it to him. But only when the team is like 160/4 type of situations. He can take singles and maintain the required 4-5 RPO.

But in todays match, we were down at out before we even reached 100 runs. Dhoni cannot score 180 runs at 6 RPO with the other middle order players.

Dhoni is useful only under certain circumstances. Since WC will be in England, 330 will be par score there. Dhoni type players will be a burden if India loses top 3 for under 100 runs (like in CT finals).

If they do not score, its a tough pitch. If they score, it is a road. So you can never evaluate them.

Not just Dhoni's batting alone! Look how clueless this Joker Kohli looked in the last 2 outings without Dhoni's on-field captaincy! Dhoni wouldn't have missed those easy stumpings and catches and we would've won this series already! This hopeless bunch are playing irresponsible cricket and they deserve this humiliation.

Is Dhoni dropped or rested?

Not going to put down Dhoni on his keeping abilities. He is still the best keeper in India. My issue is not with Dhoni in the team. But the insistance of captain and coach that he is some sort of finisher.

I would bat Dhoni at no.7 or 8. He is not a No.4 or No.5 batsman. He is not a finisher and he is far from it. Dhoni batting high up is a joke. He is good for a couple of blows coming in after 45th over. That's about it.

Rested to give an opportunity to the overhyped superstar Pant! The stage was set for him to take his team home but as usual he threw it away! All the jazz about him being new and young is nonsense when he already played 2 full seasons of IPL under similar pressure situations, test matches and domestic cricket!

Well remembered - I recall watching this series and it was some choke by Pakistan at home!

It goes to show how rare this feat is.

Good to see a reality check for this overrated team. Now those 2 will know that India's team is far off from being settled and only they and grandpa in no small measure are responsible for that.

They had all the time in world after last WC and this is what they've done with the team. Our record is still impressive in ODIs but that is mostly on the back of Kohli, Bumrah, Rohit and KulCha. That's just 5/11 members. You don't win world titles on the basis of 5 members.

This series defeat though is absolutely shameful especially after being 2-0 up and 3 of our premier players playing all 5 games.

Yes, he's definitely not a finisher anymore! His strike rate has gone to dogs these days, but he values his wicket, he pays a price to his wicket and he atleast has a plan to strategize a chase and take it deep and win it by assisting and guiding the other batsmen in the middle order. But what are the so called chasers in the team doing? Playing irresponsible cricket and throwing their wickets away without even having a plan on how to chase a set total!

Rohit tuks tuks his way in the power play and has no plan to up the ante!

Dhawan and Rahul compete in who's more incosistent

Kohli - unnecessary aggression and doesn't take responsibility in crucial decider games like today's.

Rayudu - a club level cricketer living on his fluke 90 against NZ

Shankar - New, inexperienced and throws it away without taking the responsibility with the bat

Pant - Unnecessary Media hype, stardom and living in that media-created Image and totally forgetting to take responsbility and not being discplined enough!

Jadhav - Trustwothy with the bat and an average part-timer bowler! Playing the Finisher Role for India currently and needs to do a lot more to claim that spot of Finisher!

Jadeja - Not an ALLROUNDER in LOIs

Pandey and Rahane - Brilliant fielders, but a mental midgets with the bat

Gill, Iyer - Should have been the regulars in place of Rayudus and Dks but it's too late now.

Now tell me how worst is Dhoni when you compare his batting with the entire bunch of people we tested so far? We have to realize that he's just a supporting bat and he lost the ability to finish games for India, but blaming his strike rate and his abilities as a finisher is not the answer for this pathetic middle order!

Agreed. We did not try out enough players. Kept playing the likes of Karthik, Pandey and only in the last 4 months realized their mistakes and tried to test Shankar, Pant, Gill etc. Not enough time and the youngsters will be under tremendous pressure to perform.

Very poor planning. India shoudl have tried Mayank, Shaw in the last 1 year. Both are international cricket ready and attacking batsmen. But never given a chance. Shastri and Kohli has to take a lot of blame. They kept giving chances to Pandey, Rayadu, Karthik etc who never had it in them at the highest level. They will show flashes of brilliance once in a while only to disappoint us in the long run.

Dhoni's batting is apt for a no.7 or no.8. He is clearly not a NO.4 batsman on a championship level team. We should stop pretending that he is the same batsman as he was during 2006-2010. He is a tailender who can scratch around and hit a couple of big blows in the 49th over.

I would still have Dhoni as a keeper only if he bats at No.7/8.

Mayank not even getting a single chance in ODIs is very very scandalous.

Dhawan and Rohit (and Rahul) have been getting chances after chances but not this guy, Mayank.

No way our bowlers should have allowed Australia to reach 250, let alone 270-odd.

Bhuvi has already hit 2 6s. What has the world come to?

Rohit is majorly responsible for that steep asking rate.

He has been out of form. Using these matches to get back into form.

Rohit is at his best when Dhawan is blasting the ball. This way Rohit will not be under pressure to attempt hack shots. It is not surprising that both have gone out of form at the same time. They both feed off each other.

Glad that we are exposed and the arrogant Shastri will need to take a lot of blame for this.

Time for India to get back to playing on flat pitches.
Abhi wo khud ke bichaye jaal me phass gaya hai

Khawaja with yet another sir ji kal strike :yk

Lovin it :waqar

This Ind team has put all its eggs in Kohlis basket and when he fails they fall apart. They are all good players but seem to have lost confidence in their own abilities. I still see them winning the WC but the batting is looking very vulnerable after number 4.

Cricket, thats what India need to focus on. Not wearing novelty caps!

They have prepared 4 years for the world cup and have basically allowed another contender to rise up due to their negligence! Australia right up there as a contender to win the world cup alongside England

We may have lost this series at home but remember we won the 2011 WC Final and 2013 Champions Trophy. Thank you. :vk1

Wow... that's some spanking especially when Aus were down 0-2. Everyone saying Aus wont make it to WC Semis are mistaken..

Aus have prepared their bench while Smith and Warner were out. Once they are back Aus is one hell of a team.... they will definitely make it to Semis even with or without Smith/Warner... Always know that Aus never give up:salute

Is it the second odi series loss in kohli's captaincy,?
We lost plenty of odi series when dhoni was captain. Dhoni fans should stop dancing and howling.
For a reminder during 2014-2016
We were beaten by
Bangladesh
Sa
Aus in aus
Nz in nz
Etc etc.
Dhoni’s fanbase is the most cancerous fanbase ever. Pant playing his sixth seventh odi is veing criticised as if its his fault tgat he has been selected.
Even players like yuvi averaged 25 after 20 matches,

Exactly, they look almost invincible without Kohli (as in Asia Cup)! Similarly Indian team looks solid in Tests (without Dhoni). Don't know what to tell!

Good to see the country of India being put in its place

time to ask the same question once again....

How’s the josh India? :yk

Asia cup was a fluke.
Pakistanis performed much below their capacities

Kohlis handling of middle-order has been poor according to me.
Shreyas Iyer after playing 6 odis was dropped. Plus changing and chopping has affected confidence of players

This is quite humiliating for India, specially if Australia fails to win the series against Pakistan B in a few weeks.

I think, Pakistan will easily beat us in the next WC. I am doubtful that we will win a single game in the WC. Poor batting in Australia and Newz covered up by the bowlers. As soon as the wickets , dew toss went against the bowling the batting lost back to back series for us. Aus, Sa ENg Pak/Nz to get into semis. All the best to other teams
