Australia [272/9] beat India [237] by 35 runs in the 5th ODI, win series 3-2

Khwaja was the difference bw the two sides.Well played both teams. For Indian supporters ,we have been ;osing right and left but it feels its so hard for India to digest a defeat.Chill guys
you have better team.

I think, Pakistan will easily beat us in the next WC. I am doubtful that we will win a single game in the WC. Poor batting in Australia and Newz covered up by the bowlers. As soon as the wickets , dew toss went against the bowling the batting lost back to back series for us. Aus, Sa ENg Pak/Nz to get into semis. All the best to other teams

Not at all,PAk cant even compete.

Everyone should know by now. You get 2 of the top 3 say RS and VK, even if Dawan stays bats till 40th, main two gone within 150 runs. You have great chance to win defending anything above 270 against Ind. in this match case, Australia had all three off them out within Ind scoring 150runs. You’re 95% there, winning.

Simply. Get all three out under 150 runs. You have great chance. Rest of them, middle order combined are weak and not as prolific, Dhoni was, not anymore.

Pant failed again. This means, the following will be the WC Squad.

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli
Dhoni
Jadhav
Shankar
Hardik
BK
Kuldeep
Chahal
Bumrah

Reserves will be KL Rahul and Shami.

I'd squeeze Ashwin in there for the 14th spot he is a fierce competitor. Top order feels like it is missing something.

Lol. OTT reaction bro.

Is it the second odi series loss in kohli's captaincy,?
We lost plenty of odi series when dhoni was captain. Dhoni fans should stop dancing and howling.
For a reminder during 2014-2016
We were beaten by
Bangladesh
Sa
Aus in aus
Nz in nz
Etc etc.
Dhoni’s fanbase is the most cancerous fanbase ever. Pant playing his sixth seventh odi is veing criticised as if its his fault tgat he has been selected.
Even players like yuvi averaged 25 after 20 matches,

Exactly right... Also Pant is not getting straight chances & his position in the team is vulnerable (who knows Dhoni may play even after WC) Whereas Dhoni played at a time when the team desperately needed a decent WK (we were depending on Dravid!) and any batting was bonus and he used the opportunity and got the license to bat freely at No.3 accidentally! Once that happened, he got assured in his career!

Aus C won the series against full strength Indian team that too away from home. Aus are right back as favorites for the world cup.

Lol please stop giving excuses for Pant. :inti

I seriously don't understand why Indian selectors do not pick the likes of Gill, Shaw and Agarwal and give them a consistent run for 15 to 20 matches.
May be it is too late for that now but perhaps they can do that after the world cup.

Beating India in India is a huge achievement. Australia is peaking at the right time.

In my experience, barring Australia, none of the hot favorites ever won the WC.

Yup.
Dhoni fans are deluded.
They think that dhoni will solve each and every problem.
One of them was saying that Kuldeep is a nothing bowler if dhoni isn't there. Same about chahal. Shameless.
Another remark was that dhoni would have won us this match, what was the last time dhoni chased anything above 270.
When we lose a match, the captain is kohli(ex ct 2017) and when we win captain is dhoni. Shameless bunch.
Dhoni may be the best ever odi captain for india but he is also the worst ever test captain.
As for rishabh pant, every player needs time to grow but dhoni fans get intrigued by his talent and abilities and the fact that he made two overseas century drives them insane(coz thala has none). They just want dhoni to play till 50.
They support dinesh karthik bcaise they know he doesn't possess the talent of rishabh pant and so he won't ever be able to replace their thala.

Ghafoor, so far had the best strike rate in this series :)

1.Rohit Sharma
2.Shikhar Dhawan
3.Virat Kohli
4.MS Dhoni (wk)
5.Dinesh Karthik
6.Kedar Yadav
7.Hardik Pandya
8.Bhuvneshwar Kumar
9.Jasprit Bumrah
10.Kuldeep Yadav
11.Yuzvendra Chahal

Series loss aside, India's biggest problem with No.4 spot remains. Rayudu flopped at 4. There was no reason to bring Rahul for just one game and not playing Shankar at 4 either. It's a confused mindset. There are no ODIs until world cup and India doesn't know who will bat at 4!!

Difficult for Pant to make the ODI team for the WC. I see Karthik back in the team. Shankar more or less sealed his spot. Dhoni's absence was conspicuous not only with the bat but also keeping. Spinners need him. Series was lost by Pant's botched stumping in the last game.

Silver lining is.....Aussies are back as they always do for the world cup. It's going to be one of the best world cups ever. Every team has a chink in their armor and there is no clear cut favorite as it was the case just a month ago. England's drawn series with WI and India's loss to AUS opened up the field.

"Cap" lol.
He's too good

Oh damn...I see the pun now :))

That's some smart wording. Still don't see why Pak army and fans were miffed with army caps. Why care so much for some tribute?

It might look funny but this is immature for a serious position like army general. I can't imagine his indian counterpart making tweets like this.

It's his personal account and plus he's taking having some banter. Nothing bad.

Because these antics from Indian side put the lives of armymen and civilians in danger on both sides of the border. Passions get inflamed and people begin putting pressure on governments to continue their adventures on the border. Especially when Pakistan tried its best to de-escalate.

But that's after the fact right? Tribute was for the 40 soldiers killed.

They don't care if u give tributes as long as u let everyone give tributes. Imran Tahir gave a tribute to Junaid Jamshed but was fined or something. There was nothing political about that but still was banned. So they just don't want these double standards.

But that's after the fact right? Tribute was for the 40 soldiers killed.

Tributes such as these, especially given the fact that airstrikes had taken place, are not a wise thing to do. Context is important.

It isn't immature.

Did you already forget Indian officials in GOI/Army/RAW/Media/BCCI joking with Indian about everything in past few weeks, they played with Indian citizen's sentiment by giving them false sense of victory over Pakistan for past 5 years?, this should upset you more than a Pakistani trolling Indian.

Never bring politics in the sports
Good slap on the he face of India.

India were not poor, Aus were just great. Beating basically number 1 team in their home conditions is no easy task.

I hope Ind dont meet BD in a knockout game to get an easy game. We have been gifting them some easy wins in the last three or four major tournaments knockout.

Capitalized STRIKE and CAP :)))

Kohli without Dhoni is utterly clueless. wow. Never realize he depends on Dhoni this much. Anyway, they completely screwed up the batting position 3,4,5 especially 4 and 5 by trying several players after they found Rayudu is not international material.

@Canford Cliff

Come out, come out where ever u r. :))

Thrashing of epic proportion by a second string Australian side and that too at home......

Well played Australia. Good job.

We should worry about what our team management plan is for World Cup. What do u think of our chances?

Good tight slap for Kohli-Shastri and Grandpa. After all, this team has grandpa stamp all over it.

He avg 50 albeit not at a good strike. He lacks the ability to pace the innings. At the end of the still avg 50 and definitely way better than Pant and Vijay Shankar.

Don't worry my friend. If we can field our best team, we have a strong chance of reaching the semifinal. Even if we can't do that, at the very least we will win couple of matches in the second round.

Zimbabwe has a better chance of reaching the semis and they aren't even playing the WC.

Exactly. Last 5 combined can not be gauranteed even 40 runs. Gone are the days we used to have Pathan bros., Raina, Bhajji, Praveen Kumar etc.
Only Bhuvi is a silver lining. I think if enough trust shown, he can contribute 25 runs consistently.Already a decent test bat@ no 8 and can be half decent ODI batsman.

With all due respect, it is very difficult for u to qualify as there are at least 7 teams above u that can qualify for the semis. So ban qualifying looks pretty unlikely. This isn't the 2015 type wc that u can upset one team and qualify for the semis, u have to best multiple teams.

After Australia won their first ODI series since 2017, beating India in the fifth and final ODI in New Delhi on Wednesday to clinch the series 3-2, coach Justin Langer credited his players for the success.

India, needing 273 runs to win, were all out for 237 as the Aaron Finch-led side beat the Virat Kohli and co. by 35 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

“All the credit to the players. We just make them prepare for the game but they have to go out there and performance in crunch situations. Incredibly proud of the boys,” said Langer.

The coach also went on to say that it will be tough for the selectors to pick the 15-man squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. With David Warner and Steve Smith will soon to be available for the selection as their suspension following the ball-tampering saga are about to get over before March 2019 comes to an end.

Langer also spoke about how the things have changed since the time India beat Australia in Australia before Australia returned the favour during the two-match T20I series and five-match ODI series in India.

“(I am) Incredibly proud of the boys. It is going to be tough to pick the World Cup squad,” Langer said before adding, “It has been an unbelievable tide since India arrived in Australia. I have never seen a player like Kohli. They showed character and great fighting spirit. India had the better of us in Australia and we were able to have the better of them here.”

Langer lauded the trio of Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson and Usman Khawaja for the way they performed in this series. While Khawaja scored 383 runs, Cummins (14 wickets) was the leading wicket-taker in the ODI series. Richardson, meanwhile, did well in whatever opportunities he was given, including his two wickets and a crucial 34-run partnership in the closing stages of the Australian innings. (ALSO READ: Partnership between Richardson and Cummins was really good: Usman Khawaja)

“I think Jhye Richardson and Pat Cummins are forming a great partnership, they can also contribute with the bat. Usman Khawaja also has been fantastic, having not played much of white-ball cricket, in the last 12 months. So credit to him,” concluded Langer.

Australia will now head to the United Arab Emirates to play five ODIs against Pakistan, which happens to be their last international assignment before the ICC event in England.

What a performance by Australia in this series. They seem well prepared for the World Cup with Smith and Warner to come back.

India have serious issues in the middle order that need sorting out.

I thought for sure that this was a fan account but then I saw the blue tick mark. Please tell me he commented on the third ODI as well. :))

Aus B doing a number on India at home, could have easily been 1-4.

Excellent play by Australia. No excuse from us. Every single player showed die hard spirit. Indians can learn a bit from them. Matches like this should make you mentally tougher. Team management completely screwed up by backing the wrong people. Indian team will struggle to beat a few teams. Basically we rely on the opposition sucking balls on that day.

Naa. India were poor in the last 2 games. Bowling in the 4th and batting in the 5th. Defending 360 and chasing 270 are right up India's alley. It's a battle hardened unit that won all around the world and knows how to win games. The changes in team and Pant were the reasons for the series loss. Nevertheless, Aussies showed what an excellent team they are and India learned a few lessons along the way. The fans though finally understood how valuable Dhoni is to this team. His inputs in captaincy and to the spinners are priceless and his batting helps chase middling targets like 270. India is a great tournament team as well and I see India marching to SF with no issues. They need to take of of no.4 spot if they want to win the SF and Final. One of the favorites along with Eng and probably Australia.

Aus at their best are so far ahead of India it aint funny.

WC is going to be won by Aus or England.

A full strength Aus team is firm favorites for the tournament, they don't crumble under pressure and generally lift for the WC.

Anytime they lose a series prior to world cup they do well in the world cup. That way India is in good shape :) Atleast semi final. In 1983 India lost in WI before 1983 world cup. Won only one game. But in 1983 India beat WI twice.

Just over a month ago, Aus lost 2-1 to India in the ODI series in Australia. At that time everyone was saying that Aus have hit the rock bottom and they are dud.

Now they beat India 3-2 and everyone is saying Aus are firm favs along with England :))

Opinions change so much in 1 month.

Fact of the matter is, Maxwell hit the form and he is instrumental in the Aus series win. This was the same guy who was struggling to score singles not long ago and was dropped from the Aus ODI side. Now he has become a monster all of a sudden.

Maxwell was instrumental in the win really? I would say it was a joint effort from batsman and bowler. If you do want to credit one player I would say Khwaja before Maxwell as gave them solid starts which are a must when chasing or setting a total
