Australia beat New Zealand in 1st Test by 208 runs

Irfan won't play test cricket again. And he certainly won't be able to sustain those speeds past his first spell
 
Thoroughly enjoyed the spanking Boult, Southee and Co received at the hands of Warner, who i think played a fantastic test innings. He did to well survive the first 30-45 minutes and showed a lot of maturity before unleashing his usual destructive self.

Australia has always been my second favorite team after Pakistan because of the aggressive and fearless brand of cricket they play. Hopefully Johnson ignites and causes some damage to the hobbits in the first innings. That would be a perfect start to the Australian summer.
 
Just watched the highlights and have to see the kiwi bowling apart from 1st hour was shambolic to say the least, yes Bmac set alot of attacking fields but kiwis just bowled to short most of the day and allowed Aussie batsmen to camp on the back foot all inns. Aussie batsmen were able to cut and pull to their heart content. The rate the Aussies have already scored at means that they can probably look to get 550-600 by tea time and means game is already at an advanced stage.

Except Southee, all the other NZ bowlers have gone for 4 runs per over. That is really poor bowling.

Southee and Boult are down on speed: Southee has a bad back and Boult is underdone.

The rest just aren't good enough.

I'm guessing a declaration half an hour before Tea at 5-580 and then Guptill, Latham and Taylor to get out before Tea to Starc and Hazlewood, with the Kiwis ending the day at 6-100.

Amir and Shah are world class, but a year from now your only other quicks tall enough and quick enough are Irfan, Adil and Rahat.

Junaid or Imran would be cannon fodder here. Too short, too slow for the conditions.

You forgot about Wahab. With his pace, he should be effective on these wickets.

Wahab?

Don't know if our selectors have their eye on him but Majid Ali is around 6'2-3 and gets the ball through. Swings it as well.
 
I'd love to see us tour Australia but even this team is too lethal for us, on paper the batting doesn't look that great but the only bowlers we have that will actually do something is Riaz and Shah and Shah is still untested outside of the UAE

And Australia still have Starc/Johnson who would still run through our batsman

I'd be more worried about bowling... imagine bringing someone like Rahat/Talha/Junaid/Irfan out here, they'd get smashed

Should have given 2,3 overs to Adam to make his second test ton when he was 83* of 127 balls.

The key for NZ is

1. Don't let Starc succeed with the new ball. If he sprays it around and you score runs it makes Johnson at first change have to be the stock bowler instead of taking advantage and really ramping up the pressure

and

2. Don't let Lyon get settled. He'll be dangerous here, particularly in the second innings

Hazlewood is bowling 131-133.

This could be a long Test. I wish we had traditional Aussie wickets and a Dukes ball. This is quite boring to watch. Four wickets in five sessions.
 
Our lefties just did the same as the kiwis and pretty much wasted the new ball on what is a new ball pitch, guess what might help is i expect(maybe it's hope) lyon and marsh to have more impact than neesham and craig did on this deck.

I predicted Australia reaching 3-320 yesterday, declaring at 580 and reducing the Kiwis to 6-100 tonight!

To be fair, you probably can't see on TV but NZ reached 1-90 in bright sunlight and all the wickets fell after the sun went beneath the western stand.

Ball did nothing, it was idiotic batting from our batsmen.
 
Shows how important it is to bat first on such a good batting wicket. Of course NZ would still not have been in such a dominant position either way.

Well once you get set bounce and pace isn't too bad.

And Starc and Johnson wasted the new ball
 
Neesham made 140 look like 160, KW making 145 look like 135...

Has so much time to play the ball.

Easier said than done when you first come on to the wicket.
 
3/4 day innings defeat is inevitable, need to try keep the Aussies out there as long as possible and hopefully wear down the pacers.

More likely over awed by the situation, but maybe the crowd were roaring a bit too much for them.

How much better do you think NZ wouldve done had they batted first on this wicket? I reckon around 350-400.

I don't know, Taylor has always struggled against Aus.

I swear most of our players are scared of playing against Aus.

It's like India v Pakistan in a WC match but practically every match.

[MENTION=132373]Convict[/MENTION] have you noticed this from NZ sides too? A lack of belief and easily being rattled whenever up against Aus.

The old Craig McMillan types could always be counted on to tough it out against us

It's like when Sri Lanka play India. Ever since that epic phainta Kohli gave to Malinga et al in Hobart, they have been utterly gutless against India. The worst performance was the 2013 Champions Trophy semi-final, we might as well have let India win by walkover instead of playing like timid rabbits throughout the match.

Back in the day it used to be India who were terrified of playing Sri Lanka. :jaya
 
The NZ middle order looks really fragile. McCullum is always prone to getting out in some ridiculous way, Taylor hasn't made runs for a while, and Neesham isn't a test no. 6, more like a no. 8.
 
McCullum stained his cricket whites in that innings
 
Kiwis struggling with the bat and their tail is going to have to wag, i doubt Aussies will enforce follow on if it happens and kiwis will end up been crushed by a huge margin here.

Watling should be batting at 6 with Neesham at 7.

Taylor is always nervous early on whereas McCullum is McCullum.

It will be interesting how the weather impacts a follow on decision.

Also the fact that Southee won't bowl again.
 
Wagner called into the squad lol...

Hopefully Southee is fine with the remainder of the series.

I would drop Craig and Bracewell for Santner and Henry for the next test (or is it the D/N?)
