What's new

Australia end Day 3 of the final Test on 21/0, a lead of 54 runs after bowling out India on 336

After watching this, i must say that Shardul should work more on his batting, he has the ability to become a pace allrounder for sure.
Same goes for Washington, looks like a proper batsman

Cummins hammered by Thakur :))

Even after so many injuries and taking new ball these Great Bowlers cannot get tail.

This shows the bench strength of India !

Sami , Gul , Shahid Nazir etc all had potential with bat , but they were too lazy , Indian players will certainly work on that .

Excellent performance from Shardul and Sundar. Think Sundar has sealed Jadeja's spot for the home series vs England.

Washington Sundar at the crease looks similar to Yuvraj, Indians may have found their replacement for Jadeja when he calls it a day...

Another 15 overs Australia will feel the pressure. Good job so far sundar and shardul

Aus needs to take 1 wicket quickly after the break here.

A huge character is shown by Indians in this series. It will serve them very well for the future irrespective of the result here.

There is no way Washington can be ignored for a permanent role in a future test lineup. He hasn't played a single false shot on debut vs Cummins, Starc and Haze. Amazing.

Washington looks like a proper batsman with a good temperament and shot selection.

Aus is still far ahead, just need one wicket and the rest will fold. Aus needs a quick 200+ runs. It will be extremely hard to bat here in 4th inning. Indians got unlucky by losing the toss here. Rain may not take enough time out.

Great effort. India is really blessed with their spinning all rounders! Not only have these guys reduced the deficit, they have also played out for time. With rain on the horizon next 2 days, it will be certainly difficult for Australia to determine what would be a good match-winning score in a rain shortened scenario. So crucial partnership this!

If the tail Enders start playing like this in few games, the top order will also get confident and will start playing few shots. Now they are worried about playing shots because of a long tail.

Yes, if you already know that only 60 overs are left then you can even give 270 targets, but if rain does not come then you surely don't want to give 270 as a target. It's a hard call, but I think Aus will make a bolder call. They need to win this series. Pitch will start misbehaving in 4th inning. If Indias can take away another 40-50 runs, then it will be much harder for Aus.

It looks like rain will take out a session on each day, maybe even more on the last day. I think that should be enough considering that Australia will have to bat for 2 sessions.

I don't see Australia making a risky declaration after what Pant did last match.

If India manages to get the deficit down to 40-50 runs then the match will be a draw with the weather forecast.

If they get 4 wickets quickly, they may not have to bat for full 2 sessions for 300+ targets. It's a question of breaking this partnership. Aus can bat aggressively if the lead is around 100 runs.

Maybe the aussies will take a punt and settle for a 260-270 target in an effort to regain the BG trophy ..

Aus will bat for 2 more sessions and rain will wash out 3 sessions .. game placed for a draw.

I will like to see rain not taking out that much time. It's been a cracking series despite Indians playing their net bowlers.

I will love that. India can go for it and if they go for it, Aus will increase their chance to win as well. But it's hard to declare with 260 with the assumption that rain will take out 3 sessions.

This guy Sundar looks solid with great composure doesn't he?
We all love slagging t20 leagues around the world, yet this guy who is an IPL product, played the 148K short balls from the Aussies easily!
Just shows hard, high pressure cricket (of any form) helps immensely in shaping a youngster

He opens for his state TN in limted overs. Age is on his side as he is only 21 so there is a lot of time for him before he becomes a regular. But before that he needs to learn a few variations like carrom ball, doosra etc.

Aussies will not declare after a quick 200 knowing what happened in SCG. We just have to make sure we don't get to bat again before it's Day 5.

We have treated Starc like a garbage bowler in this series :yk . Reminds me of what England did to Johnson in 2009-10 Ashes.

Barring a few stunning performances esp in odis starc overall is a garbage bowler

His new action has taken away the huge swing he used to generate during 2015 WC. He is not the same bowler anymore.

If Australia is too aggressive with their batting, it will give Indian bowlers a big chance to get easy wickets. A fine balancing act will be needed by the Aussies now.

Gotta get this lead below 50. I know greed is taking over, still...

What a stroke by Thakur!

These 2 playing Lyon far better than the likes of Pujara, Rahane etc who played him like he was lobbing hand grenades.

Pujara plays Lyon well. He just doesn't score enough against pacers. Rahane has always been poor vs spin.

more than 25 overs

I meant from the time when I said this in the thread. It was around 72-73 overs when I said that we need to bat 20 more overs and take the deficit to under 100. Luckily, these two alone have done that.

Only in the last test. Wasn't comfortable against him in the first 2 tests.

Imagine if Rohit had played with the intelligence and risk-averse temperament of these 2 debutants ..

How come Aussies hammered NZ with their world class bowling and good batting lineup yet this Indian E team is giving them a run for their money? The issue is definitely mental.

Hazelwood and Cummins don't have a yorker, that is one weakness that I see in their bowling. Starc has not tried a single yorker in this innings

Longer Australia bowls in this innings, harder will it be for Paine to declare in their second dig.

Have a solid feeling that this might be paines last series for Australia. Not a good consistent batsmen, a poor keeper and neither a great captain either. Failure to win back the Border Gavaskar Trophy with an Australian A team against an Indian C team has to have consequences

Australia dont have the luxury to risk losing this match as every match counts in getting to the final of the WTC. They will not make a hasty declaration.

Our lower order bats should learn to bat like Thakur. :inti

Thakur has looked to be a proper lower middle batsman. Maybe he is actually a batsman who can bowl a bit but playing for Mumbai Ranji team , he had to mould him against his natural skill.

I have never seen a more fighting Indian team in my life..and I have been watching Indian cricket for close to 25 years now...

Super impressed ! very very proud of this team !
