Boxing Day tensions rise again after India’s latest media stunt at the MCG

The tension between Indian cricketers and Australian journalists are on the rise again after a strange and frosty media conference at the MCG on Saturday.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja faced reporters but the Australian media were bemused and confused when the star allrounder refused to answer questions in English.

It was obviously an annoying situation for the journalists who made the effort to turn up, and comes just days after Indian legend Virat Kohli’s blow-up at Melbourne Airport.

In that heated exchanged, Kohli was frustrated by the cameras and took aim at a TV reporter.

At the MCG on Saturday, India’s media team pointed to reporters who were allowed to ask questions, and even acknowledged a few Australian journalists.

But Jadeja only responded in his native language.

The press conference was then wrapped up when he told the journalists that he had to get the bus.

Afterwards, India’s media team said the conference was for “travelling Indian media only”, even though Australian media was invited.

India has been particularly fickle with the media during this series, however, this is the first time they have not spoken in English at a press conference.

The tension has been bubbling away from the very start of the series when India coach Gautam Gambhir told Aussie legend Ricky Ponting to mind his own business.

Gambhir was upset after Ponting made some observations about the deteriorating form of beloved Indian legend Virat Kohli and the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma.

Indian players then refused to talk to the media in the build-up to the Perth Test.

Things exploded in Melbourne however, when Kohli lashed out at the airport.

Kohli appeared to be upset by the presence of cameras directed at his family.

After a tense conversation with a TV reporter, Kohli walked off before turning back and having a few more words.

“It was upon seeing the waiting cameras that Kohli became a little heated over what is largely a misunderstanding when he thought the media was filming him with his children,” Channel 7 reporter Theo Doropoulos said on 7NEWS.

Kohli said he could not be filmed without permission, however, that’s not true given he was in a public place.

He did take a minute to clear the air with media once it was explained his kids in fact weren’t being filmed and even shook the Channel 7 cameraman’s hand.

Kohli has struggled for form in recent years, but did making a fighting century in the first Test in Perth.

However, his four other bats have combined for a total of just 26 runs.

The Border-Gavaskar series is delicately poised at 1-1 after the third Test in Brisbane was a draw.

The crucial fourth Test begins on Boxing Day at the MCG before the gripping series heads to Sydney for the final Test.

If he has not responded to Aus journo questions it is wrong, however if he has responded in his native language then it is player's choice and should not be criticized

When Aussies come to India and only speak in English, why is that not an issue?

I know why he did that. It might get a bit political, but there’s no harm in speaking in your mother tongue.

Who cares. Serves them right.

Aus reporters are pathetic. Scums.

I hope pakistani players too speak in urudu in the future.

Already doing that as no one can understand their English as is (barring a few)
It's not their problem. Players can have translators if they want too. They are not obligated to respond to reporters.

I hate it when people mock babar or a young Dhoni for their lack of English speaking skills. Babar has Improved btw but it is really not required at all. In saying that speaking English well could help him be more e marketable. That's about it. More chances for add revenue etc.

How rude. Speak in English your dufus, you are not in India and he knows English..

I'm not sure what is gained by being deliberately obnoxious like this.

Just answer their questions and go and play hard cricket on the pitch.

Media is media everywhere. Always want some masala news to hype tge ratings. If this was a WI player- ans say he spoke in his local guyanese language- nobody would even care. With Ind - everything is hyped out intentionally for TV ratings. Simple as that. Much ado about nothing honestly

Its funny how the indian team is trying to create hype of the series by such gimmicks.

Australians dont care about cricket or you guys. Plus its christmas season and even if anyone is watching the sport they are just watching it for leisure. No one cares about it.

Esl speaking nation decides to answer questions in hindi, breaking news lol

Indians are always trying to portray the australian series as a derby. So to keep up with this, they try to act like this. For example, Siraj trying to do stupid acts while being wicketless or doing over the top celebration against a guy who gave you a phainty.

You indulge in such acts if the opposition takes you as a proper rival. Like the South Africa vs Australia series where De Kock and co Vs Smith and co. Both sides finding ways to get on top of each other.

Meanwhile, the Australians dont care about these guys, but lol. Let the desperation for attention by Indians is just appealing.
