Australia U19s (253/7) defeat India U19s (174) by 79 runs to clinch their fourth ICC U19 World Cup title

This is men's WC revisited, just that we are chasing this time.

Even though run-rate is terrible, if they take it deep, they may chase it down.

But, Aussies are overwhelming favorites currently.

In terms of individual ability, SA were much better. We don't look up to the mark just sheer will got us through so far

Another world tournament final, another choke job

Everyone getting stuck on the crease. Anyways good learning curve for these boys

Yeah. That was shocking.

Playing 4 spinners in South Africa is unthinkable.
I mean this should be self explanatory lol. They are acting like they are playing in Asia. Horrible selections. Wonder who makes these calls.

Maybe they want batting depth. I am not familiar with the team and If they bat deep but I guess that may have been the line of thought.

I thought they would be more comfortable against spin but the first ball of spin brings a wicket
with both of their best bats out this is as good as over now

Sky looks gloomy. Will there be rain?

After this over, game can't be rained out (20 overs will be done).

India U19 is collapsing and can't handle pressure like Pakistan U19.
We were never good enough really.

Even the team that lost in 2020 had likes of Tyagi, Varma, Jaiswal, Bishnoi. This team has very little to speak of in terms of individuals

Klrahul vibes all over.. you just cant tuk tuk and take this deep to the 50th over approach nonsense.. go for it in the power play and put the opposite team on the back foot. Hopefully they learn from this defeat. Almost need a huge miracle if Ind has to win from here on

This one hell of an Aussie attack. Injuries and form permitting, all of these guys will play for Australia

aussies winning everything is getting a bit boring now 😆

Aussie senior team won the ODI World Cup.
Women's team won the ODI World Cup.
Junior guys should win it today also.

They also hold the WTC trophy.

I also expect them to win CT 2025 and 2024 World T20.

Australia will always be the greatest cricketing nation. India can have the money

It's the approach that matters. Except Saharan- all ond wickets fell to meek prods and tentative pushes. Travis head was a good example in the sr final. He got beaten but still played positive and looked to play his shots. Fortune favors the brave- not tuk tuk tentative prodders

That's why it's sport. Money helps you with good infrastructure, a good domestic set up , good players - which will help you reach SFs consistently.. after that from the KOs it's the mental aptitude and resilience that wins you WCs. If money was the only factor- England would have won every soccer WC ..

Pak would have gobbled this Indian side. They played a very good game against a good Aussies side. Just needed this Zimbabwean umpire to raise his finger to win by 6 runs

Reaching the final looks extremely flattering to this unit.

Surely some very strange selections in this setup. I just can't fathom we don't have better young cricketers than what we have here

Indeed.

Pakistan gave Australia a much better fight. Australia barely survived.

Can anyone stop them? They are the most organised team I have ever come across. Best resource management skills and top notch planning.

U19 is all about identifying talent. So I wouldn't put much emphasis on winning these tournaments.

In 2016 guys like pant played and got out to some no names against West indies. We all know how good pant was. He was the Aussie killer. If pant played vs Aussies in wtc it would have been a different game.

But yea really weird selections by India. 4 spinners? Really?

Why are Indian players mentally weak?

Why are Indian players mentally weak?
More like succumbing to pressure in icc events- huge hype huge pressure huge expectations and more dont want to lose vs go for a win and if you lose you lose thought. They just have to have a risk a loss to win approach. Identifying those types of critical clutch players- not just go by stats sometimes. And it's down to selection.

Why are Indian players mentally weak?
Pressure of huge population I guess.

In Australia you can play it more casually as no one really is concerned if you lose or not amongst local population. It's mostly the management team that care about winning.

Aussie care only for rugby.

Outplayed by a much much superior side. India was outmatched in all departments. Congrats Aussies. I expected this one-sided outcome.

We have won this trophy 5 times and this rather avg team has punched above it's weight to make the final.

Would agree about the seniors though

Results don't matter much at this level. These tournaments are just for identifying talent.

I don't see any exceptional talent in this Indian side though.

From Australia vidler and beardman are very impressive and they can play for international side in the future if they keep developing their game.

Bcci is nothing without that shovel that digs up pitches for dodgy bowlers like harbhajan & Ashwin.
A nobody SA captain who's an opening batsmen in the current NZ vs SA has the same amount of 5fers in SENA as Ashwin and Jadeja. Let that sink in lol and he achieved that in his 1st game.

That's because chasing is always harder in knock out games and hence Pakistan looked much better than they actually are. Middling scores look like Everest to climb.

All said and done, getting dismissed for 179 playing first up is as poor as it gets.

Aussies are physically imposing even at this age.Look at the frail frame of that Adharsh singh. He looked like a skeleton.

Money can get you only that far. Ultimately, genuine talent will always shine through.

That's why, it's not always fair to lay into Indian team just because BCCI and it's affiliated cricketers are super rich.

Winning is a habit which must be inculcated right from your formative years.
Last edition India totally dominated. Same in 2018. IN the last 5 editions this probably is the worst Indian side to make it to final. Just didn't look right. Heard that they put together a side at the last minute. May be they didn't have enough game time together.

Chasing or batting first Aussies never feel the pressure.
179 was a decent score. This Indian batting would not have reached that much on that pitch

The only natural born cricketers are Aussies & windies look how many ATG they produced.. rest are wanabees

They did feel the pressure and chasing is always difficult in knock out games. That's why they were huffing and puffing in chasing 180 and almost lost that game.

Also, facing Australian bowling & fielding and Pakistan bowling & fielding are completely different.

Also, 179 is now seeming decent because even Aussies felt pressure in chasing this measly score.

So that's completely BCCI's mismanagement then.

Australia are champs. Congratulations to them for being the team to beat

Agree with this assessment.

I think most natural cricketers are found in Australia, Windies, and South Africa. South Africa lose their players due to their silly quota system.

Aussies are the best in terms of talent and management.

Dominant Australia win ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024

Australia dominated in all three departments of the field to defeat India by 79 runs in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 final in Benoni.

Hugh Weibgen called it right and elected to bat first in Benoni. Charlie Anderson came in for Tom Campbell for Australia. India were unchanged. Australia reached 253/7 at the end of the first innings. This was the highest-ever total in an U19 World Cup final. Harjas Singh top-scored with 55, while Weibgen, Harry Dixon and Ollie Peak contributed with important 40s. Raj Limbani starred for India with 3/38.

India's chase was off to a shambolic start as they lost four batters within the first 20 overs. Among those dismissed were Musheer Khan, Uday Saharan, and Sachin Dhas, their three top run-getters in the tournament. Australia kept chipping away and picked four more wickets between overs 21-32. Despite the late charge from Abhishek Murugan, an Australia win was a mere formality, and they sealed the game in the 44th over.

India were rattled early in their chase, when Arshin Kulkarni nicked one behind the wicket. Adarsh Singh and Musheer Khan then proceeded cautiously. Merely two fours came in the first Powerplay. Musheer begun playing more adventurous strokes after the first 10 overs. However, he played on a Mahli Beardman delivery for 22.

Beardman had another big scalp when he dismissed India skipper Uday Saharan for 8. The batter tried to force the ball past offside but found his opposite number Weibgen at the backward point. India's hopes were further dented when Sachin Dhas (8) edged one behind the stumps off Raf MacMillan.

Soon Priyanshu Moliya and Aravelly Avanish were dismissed without adding much to the total. When Adarsh Singh, who fought with a resilient 47, was dismissed by Beardman, writing was on the wall for India. Abhishek Murugan scored a feisty 42, but it was too late for his side.

Harry Dixon was off to a belligerent start, taking 15 runs off Naman Tiwari's first over. However, Raj Limbani got one to swerve in and castled his partner Sam Konstas in the third over. India soon switched to spin, and managed to stem the scoring rate in the first Powerplay.

Dixon and Weibgen were watchful against the spinners at the start of the middle overs, while also calmly milking runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. The overs 11-20 saw 42 runs come, with boundaries easing in towards the end of that period. A return to pace yielded immediate results in the 21st over, as Tiwari dispatched Weibgen for 48.

The left-armer struck again in his next over, this time getting the better of Dixon. The slower ball outfoxed the southpaw, and he popped it towards Abhishek Murugan.

Harjas Singh and Ryan Hicks then rebuilt for Australia with a patient stand. Harjas, who had scored merely 49 runs in the tournament thus far, opened his arms against the spin of Priyanshu Moliya, hitting a six and four in the 28th over. He hit a flurry of boundaries thereafter.

Hicks was eventually trapped leg before by Limbani for 20, but Australia were progressing at a healthy run rate. Harjas punched a Tiwari full toss down the ground in the 37th over to bring his maiden fifty of the U19 World Cup.

Saumy Pandey struck back for India by getting Harjas soon after. The batter tried to sweep Pandey towards the on-side but missed and was trapped plumb leg before.

Ollie Peake's positive intent helped Australia craft their total past 200 even as India bowlers kept chipping away. Australia eventually added 66 off the last 10 overs.
