Australia U19s (253/7) defeat India U19s (174) by 79 runs to clinch their fourth ICC U19 World Cup title

The Indian boys did ok in the end, they were nowhere as exciting a team we have seen this past decade yet they finish runners up. Hope they can get better and strengthen the domestic game at least, hard to see many of them make an impact at international level

This Australian team was too strong. The control they showed at the start of their bowling innings was as good I have seen, gave nothing away.

Unstoppable Australia. Top to bottom every athlete of theirs and in particular in Cricket is a mental monster.

Congratulations to both teams though for making it to the Final and competing throughout this tournament.

Australia's biggest outcome is not the tournament win. They have found next gen fast bowlers already. That is their biggest outcome.

This was our weakest U-19 in a while , congratulations to Aus!
Had India met Australia in Semis, they would have lost too like Pakistan.

I say Pakistan U19 is a lot more talented than Indian U19. Asutralia are on a different level.

South Africa were better than both the Asian sides individually, they just capitulated in the key moments. Should have been Aus vs them in the final tbh

Dominant Australia win ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024

Australia dominated in all three departments of the field to defeat India by 79 runs in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 final in Benoni.

Hugh Weibgen called it right and elected to bat first in Benoni. Charlie Anderson came in for Tom Campbell for Australia. India were unchanged. Australia reached 253/7 at the end of the first innings. This was the highest-ever total in an U19 World Cup final. Harjas Singh top-scored with 55, while Weibgen, Harry Dixon and Ollie Peak contributed with important 40s. Raj Limbani starred for India with 3/38.

India's chase was off to a shambolic start as they lost four batters within the first 20 overs. Among those dismissed were Musheer Khan, Uday Saharan, and Sachin Dhas, their three top run-getters in the tournament. Australia kept chipping away and picked four more wickets between overs 21-32. Despite the late charge from Abhishek Murugan, an Australia win was a mere formality, and they sealed the game in the 44th over.

India were rattled early in their chase, when Arshin Kulkarni nicked one behind the wicket. Adarsh Singh and Musheer Khan then proceeded cautiously. Merely two fours came in the first Powerplay. Musheer begun playing more adventurous strokes after the first 10 overs. However, he played on a Mahli Beardman delivery for 22.

Beardman had another big scalp when he dismissed India skipper Uday Saharan for 8. The batter tried to force the ball past offside but found his opposite number Weibgen at the backward point. India's hopes were further dented when Sachin Dhas (8) edged one behind the stumps off Raf MacMillan.

Soon Priyanshu Moliya and Aravelly Avanish were dismissed without adding much to the total. When Adarsh Singh, who fought with a resilient 47, was dismissed by Beardman, writing was on the wall for India. Abhishek Murugan scored a feisty 42, but it was too late for his side.

Harry Dixon was off to a belligerent start, taking 15 runs off Naman Tiwari's first over. However, Raj Limbani got one to swerve in and castled his partner Sam Konstas in the third over. India soon switched to spin, and managed to stem the scoring rate in the first Powerplay.

Dixon and Weibgen were watchful against the spinners at the start of the middle overs, while also calmly milking runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. The overs 11-20 saw 42 runs come, with boundaries easing in towards the end of that period. A return to pace yielded immediate results in the 21st over, as Tiwari dispatched Weibgen for 48.

The left-armer struck again in his next over, this time getting the better of Dixon. The slower ball outfoxed the southpaw, and he popped it towards Abhishek Murugan.

Harjas Singh and Ryan Hicks then rebuilt for Australia with a patient stand. Harjas, who had scored merely 49 runs in the tournament thus far, opened his arms against the spin of Priyanshu Moliya, hitting a six and four in the 28th over. He hit a flurry of boundaries thereafter.

Hicks was eventually trapped leg before by Limbani for 20, but Australia were progressing at a healthy run rate. Harjas punched a Tiwari full toss down the ground in the 37th over to bring his maiden fifty of the U19 World Cup.

Saumy Pandey struck back for India by getting Harjas soon after. The batter tried to sweep Pandey towards the on-side but missed and was trapped plumb leg before.

Ollie Peake's positive intent helped Australia craft their total past 200 even as India bowlers kept chipping away. Australia eventually added 66 off the last 10 overs.

They are not, they almost lost to Pakistan, but they are mentally tough though.

India had the best batting lineup in this World Cup and pak had the best bowling attack but Aus has the best mentally strong players alongside second best bowling unit hence they won the worldcup.

I am not seeing any Indian player from this batch coming in to senior side apart from Sachin Das only if he improves and score consistently.

Hugh Weibgen, Australia Men’s U19s captain said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have won the final and to be bringing home the World Cup.

“We knew this was going to be a tough tournament given the standard of some of the teams and to go through undefeated says a lot about the talent we have in our squad and the excellence of our planning and preparation.

“It was great that everyone across the squad made a contribution to the victory including all the coaches and support staff and everyone involved can be really proud of what we have achieved.”

Nick Hockley, CA Chief Executive said:

“Congratulations to captain Hugh Weibgen and his team, the coaches and all the support staff in South Africa on winning Australia's fourth ICC Men's Under 19 World Cup.

“To go through the tournament undefeated and bring home the trophy for the first time in 15 years is a wonderful achievement and continues a period of remarkable success for Australian teams on the international stage.

“Ensuring our pathway programs are strong is a major priority for Australian Cricket and it is great to see Australia continues to produce so many accomplished young cricketers including those in this world champion team.”

To be honest sheer talent wise Aus wasn’t the best team in this worldcup but it was definitely the most strongest side mentally.

South Africa were better than both the Asian sides individually, they just capitulated in the key moments. Should have been Aus vs them in the final tbh
Saf had the most talented two players in their lineup, Maphaka was easily the best bowler of this tournament by country mile and Steve Tolik the power hitter , rest of the team were not as talented , Luus just had a good game against India but he is definitely not a next best thing after Rabada in this worldcup.

They did feel the pressure and chasing is always difficult in knock out games. That's why they were huffing and puffing in chasing 180 and almost lost that game.

Also, facing Australian bowling & fielding and Pakistan bowling & fielding are completely different.
Facing Auss bowling also different from facing Indian bowlers for Pak side. Accept it this Indian batch was bang average

Yes, Sachin Das is a good prospect. Also, I expect Musheer Khan to get into the Indian senior team.

Just like Australia has mental stranglehold over India especially in knockout games, same is true for India-Pakistan knockout games, with India obviously holding upper hand.

Accept it, Pakistan would have lost in semis, whether it was Australia or India, doesn't matter.

All said and done, Australia are champs and that's the way it is going to be for next 2 years.

Pak losing a game of cricket wouldn't have made this Indian side better 😃
Other ways to lick your wounds than just comparing your side to a poor Pak team.
This coping mechanism has been ingrained into Indian minds accept it or not.

Comprehension issues!

Coping mechanism is when someone says that this Indian team would've lost to Pakistan in semis who couldn't even make 180 runs while batting first.

'Negative padosi': Irfan Pathan slams Pakistan fans for mocking India's defeat in the U19 World Cup final
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan hit back at Pakistan fans over their taunting posts following India's Under-19 World Cup

India's former all-rounder Irfan Pathan slammed the taunting social media posts from Pakistan fans following India's defeat on Sunday in the Under-19 World Cup final against Australia, who secured a dominating 79-run victory with an impressive performance.
After the match, several Pakistan fans took to social media to troll India for their third consecutive defeat against Australia in an ICC event final.

Posting his reponse on microblogging platform 'X', Irfan criticized such remarks and stated that mocking and trolling their neighbouring country reflects poorly on Pakistan as a nation.
"Despite their U19 team not making it to the final, keyboard warriors from across the border find pleasure in our youngsters' defeat. This negative attitude reflects poorly on their nation's mindset. #padosi," Irfan posted from his official 'X' handle.

Australia's quartet of quality fast bowlers tipped for the big time

The pace attack that dominated the U19 World Cup final could be destined for the big time, according to Australia skipper Hugh Weibgen.

Australia defeated India by 79 runs to lift the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024.

Victorious Australia captain Hugh Weibgen believes his side’s quartet of fast bowlers that starred in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 final against India are destined for the big time.

The Aussies made a bold call at selection when including four quicks in their XI for the title decider in Benoni and the decision paid off in spades as Callum Vidler, Charlie Anderson, Tom Straker and Mahli Beardman combined to take seven wickets in the dominant 79-run triumph.

Only four India batters scored in double figures as Australia defended their decent total of 253/7 with relative ease and Weibgen said much of the credit for the victory was down to the performance of his in-form seamers.

Australia lift the U19 CWC 2024 trophy

Vidler (14), Straker (13) and Beardman (10) all finished among the leading wicket-takers at the event - while Anderson (four scalps) also impressed at times - and Weibgen sees no reason why the quartet can't build on their efforts and forge a long career at international level.

"With a pace attack like ours there's a fair bit of confidence when we get 250 on the board," Weibgen said post-match.

"That was our plan (after winning the toss) to get a few runs and back ourselves to defend it.

"As a unit, they worked so good together. They know their roles and are happy to bowl either ends.

"They are all for the team and I would be surprised if all of them don't go a very long way in their careers.

How much did India score in the final? 😃On a much better surface

Lol, much better surface.
It was.
You mean Australia struggled in semis because they were chasing. And India lost because they were chasing.
And who was chasing in seniors men WC 23?? 😃
Indian fans were over confident before every KO game they lost in last decade.

So you have now shifted goalposts to Men's WC

Well done
