Smith is same as Cameroon White , both started as spinners , who could slog and then batting became there stronger suit.

Pietersen is still hampered by his knee, obvious in the way he runs between the wickets

That's why you always need Siddle in Aus attack. Even when nothing is happening, he will keeping bowling with full heart over after over.

That was a harmless delivery that came back in a bit, dunno what KP was doing there

There's no way England can save this test now, too much for the rest to do

A glut of maidens brought about a dismissal again, England have to certainly work on that

Kerry O'Keefe was saying that Sids troubles Pietersen because it looks like he does nothing. So Pietersen thinks he should be hitting Siddle all around the place.

Watto bowling faster than any of the English pacers lol

This is the weakness I see in the English bowling line up. Too much sameness in the attack, they need one guy who can crank it up to 90mph plus. Disciplined line and length bowling might work in England but not over here, they need something extra.

Broad can but for some reason isn't

Sigh. Probably the most rubbish ball from a series of rubbish balls by Smith and gets a wicket. Poor stuff from Bell.

If he is used in short sharp bursts then perhaps but swanns ineffectiveness means more bowling for the pacers which means they can't go at full tilt and have to bowl within themselves

What was that from bell  I dunno which one was worse, the rank full toss or the shot

realistically , 2 more wickets today will nullify the threat of expected bad weather on day 5 .

Root is playing decently . interesting bit from tms : Steve Smith has now taken nine Test wickets - and three of them have been Ian Bell."

Root goes to Lyon of all people. Looking at Matty's batting avg this series...it's all over for Eng.

Well played Root. Time for Johnson to clean up tails now.

15 overs left before close of play. England would want to get through this period without losing another wicket.

England trying there best to survive the day , and hope it rains tomorrow.

We already saw NZ denied a win because of rain against WI. So anything can happen

Bad light might not permit full quota of overs . Aus need a wicket or 2 today to nullify 5th days forecast of rain .

Stokes has bottled 1 end up rather decently . nice on drive for 4 .

Would really be unfortunate if AUS don't go on to win this due to weather.

Harris gets Stokes . I am reasonably impressed by Stokes bowling btw & would play him in Perth as the 5th bowling option .

lol . Broad gets his traditional boos on the way to the crease.

day 5 forecast is poor, rain maybe storms and will likely be cooler and overcast all day so light will be an issue.

England might have just done enough to eek out a draw.

will be a pity if Eng escape defeat .

Would be embarrassing to get a draw out of this shambles.

At least they had a scrap today though. Was a sterling innings from Root.

odds suggest big rain threat . Aus at 1.20 & draw is 6.00 .

What I hear from some croweater mates is that there is little chance of any major rain interference.

Could be the light as much as anything that costs us.

cloudy and 15-20 deg sounds pretty dodgy, if it's a bit dull early and the umps take them off they have to go by that reading all day.

Prior and Draco will have to absorb a lot of time for that to happen. I don't expect Swann, Jimmy and Monty to stay at the wicket for long.

But even if they do get a draw then I still expect to be 0-2 after Perth and that'll be the Ashes lost.

Positive signs for ENG today: Root obviously, KP getting a score, Prior looking more like his old self.

Steve Smith's bowling interests me. He'll bowl at least one four-ball per over, but also can beat good batters who are set.

Come on rain, just one day.

It never comes when you want it to though...

The Ashes need this game to be drawn somehow, if England lose here the rest of the Ashes will be quite boring.

The contest will effectively be over with 3 Tests still remaining.
