What's new

Australia v England, 3rd Test, Perth (day 1)

Monty's picked up 3 wickets ... I bet the selectors are kicking themselves for leaving him out from the first two games.

LOL I go away for half an hour and we've lost two more wickets! Symmo and Gilly (for a duck) taken by Monty.

Here comes Warney

It's up to the tail now to get us to about 250. If they can hang around and keep Hussey company to the end of the day then we might make it.

Good start by England ... but still too early ... Remember Aus have the advantage of the Warne factor in the 4th inning.

Yep, it's only 2 sessions out of 15 so far. We've shown that we can bounce back. We're a bit behind the eightball at the moment though...

51.4 Panesar to Gilchrist, OUT, but Panesar has struck again! This time Gilchrist comes forward to defend and the ball cannons off his pad onto his inside edge and balloons up to Ian Bell at short leg and he scrambles over and takes a catch at a stretch. Great catch, Gilchrist doesn't wait for the decision and Monty's on fire.
AC Gilchrist c Bell b Panesar 0 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

I hate this Hussey. Saj bowling really well and tight and he still finds the boundary.

What worries me is that Hussey is showing that you can actually bat and score runs on this pitch if you apply yourself. That said, this is Huss's home ground. But still, these OZ batsmen have all batted at the WACA plenty of times.

Huge wickets. Australia will struggle to get a good score now. England has a very good chance of restricting them to less than 300 and could aim for a decent first innings lead. With Monty in hand, a lead would be very handy...

Sajid Mahmood warned for running on the pitch.

Warne is trying to gift himself. A slog goes up in the air for a risky run

44444444444444444 for the fatboy, swept to square leg.

Pretty dismal scorecard. Symmo did some damage to Monty but he proved he's just a cowlasher. I think the target for the OZ will be: 1) bat to the end of the day; and 2) get over 300.

For England, it's been a pretty good debut for Full Monty. Mahmood has been less impressive, but let's see how he goes after tea. Harmy looked good, getting lots of bounce from the wicket.

If England arent careful, it could be 330-7 at the end of the day with Hussey still batting...

Aus 197/6

Well bowled month thus far, a good hard slap in face of DF who left him out for 1st two games.

Englands ground fielding has been very poor today.

Saj mahmood bowling well here and up to 90 mph interms of speed.

Theres no need for Sajid to be bowling right now. Flintoff should have started after tea and not allowed this partnership to flourish.

Cracking cut shot for 4 by warne. onto 20* now

Aus 209/6

Good day so far! So much for playing the spinner that's the best batsman.

Sajid has bowled well. Warne has batted like this countless times for Australia and it never lasts.

I am so psychic! Warne goes - 4th wicket for Turbinator.

I'd just love it if he got 5fer. Fletcher will be sacked if he wins us the game.

That should be the end of Sajid's spell. A wicket or 2 now and England are firmly back in the race of restricting them to below 300...

:))) i hope they interview DF after days play!

England have performed superbly today.

With them being 2-0 down, and Monty back into the side, I am going to start supporting England! C'mon Monsta', get in there! :11:

Hussey moves to 63*

Lovely cover drive for 4

Hussey looks a class apart to so many other batsmen.

Aus 219/7

England need to get Hussey fast. He has formed big partnerships with MacGil in the past, and even McGrath!

Hussey has been class today - the rest of been useless. Shame isn't it?

I don't think there's a lot in the pitch. Not the Asian road that some were expecting, but hardly a raging WACA minefield. If we can get them out for about 250-280, we have a chance to really take control of the game.

In the last Ashes test in Perth, England batted first and were bowled out cheaply. They went on to lose by an innings on the 3rd day. Tempting fate here - but what if the same were to happen this year, only the other way round?

Harmy dominating Lee here. A wicket is coming.

Lee leg before wicket

Monty's 3rd five wicket haul in test cricket!

Monty gets a 5'fer! Egg all over Fletcher's face.

:27:

'And Duncan Fletcher can be seen in the dressing room with a rather expressionless demeanor.' - Cricinfo :))

Shame for who? :P

It's not a raging WACA minefield, I agree. Some good carry and a bit of bounce and turn, but a good batting wicket. England should be able to post about 450-500 if they play well.

If Clark and then Pidge can survive a la MacGill and McGrath have done with Huss, he can take us to 300, which I think is defendable.

Woeful throw by Freddie to try and run Clark out, he'd have been gone by miles if the throw was more accurate. Fred panicked a bit.

300 is defendable. Heck so is 250 odd. But if England can get close to a 200 run lead, it might be a different proposition.

Harmison and Panesar have been world class today. So happy for both guys.

OZ 9 down now, Harmy mopping up the tail, Clark gone for 3.

I'm happy to see you actually posting this time as well, mate. :D

Harmy using the Fremantle Doctor pretty well.

Mcgrath gone!

gets a bumper and is caught at short cover.

Aus 244 all out

Excellent effort from england after lossing the toss.

Aus 244 all out

Mcgrath talking ******** as he goes off!

LOL, McGrath out caught out off his chest and arm. That makes up for Bucknor's Strauss decision.

England will have to bat 17 overs tonite.

so about 1hr and 10 mins worth of batting.

Clinical performance with the ball. England have a chance to completely take over this game with the bat...

Harmison 4-48
Panesar 5-92

Great figures...but how is the reply going to be?

A pretty good total if this was the WACA of old...but it isn't. It's going to be important for the OZ bowlers to try and replicate England's efforts today as we're on the backfoot. If we can take a couple of wickets before the end of the day that will salvage something. Shame nobody could hang around with Hussey.

England need a good solid start tonite and need tonget a big total 1st up here.

Hopefully Cook well get some big runs.

England to be in trouble from a firey last hour from Lee and Mcgrath.
Go get em boys!
Cook and Strauss will want to make a partnership as they havnt made a biggish one yet.
Great bowling by Panesar. He should have played the first 2 tests and it might be 1-1 instead of 2-0.

Brett lee and Mcgrath both have excellent records here so should be a fun last half-session!

I wonder if McGrath can pitch the ball in the same areas that Harmless was pitching it in to get that movement? I know Lee won't have the accuracy.

A short number of overs would be a trickier session, but 17 overs is enuf for batsmen to get some time in middle.
