Actually, no.

I think that Kohli and Rahane have been the best players on the pitch in this match, and I salute them.

I find Kohli's behaviour a little bit like Javed Miandad's. He's an annoying so-and-so but it works for him, and the onus should be on his opponents to hold their nerve and do the right thing rather than give him the response that he is trying to provoke with his kindergarten provocations.

All of my posts today have been critical of Australia, not India. I think that they have been sucked in by Kohli (whether by his bat or his big mouth) and have thrown away a good chance to win because they allowed themselves to be provoked into a stupidly late declaration.

Ok my bad then. I agree if Aussies changed a win into draw because of Kohli, he got to them

Johnsons avg speeds were much higher in uae compared to here. Must be carrying a niggle. Has definately lost a yard.

For sure.

I wish that the BCCI would use its power to make countries give them the sort of touring itineraries that are tried and tested in giving teams a good chance to win away Test series.

Arrive four weeks before the First Test and make the hosts give your a minimum of 4 Four Day First Class matches before the First Test so your players aren't learning the conditions on the job.

Australia is not great currently. And on easy wickets like these, with no lateral deviation at all, India should be at worst 0-0 after three Tests if they had prepared properly.

People keep saying "away teams always lose nowadays". My response is simple: "away teams don't arrive early enough or get enough First Class acclimatisation nowadays, so they lose."

Dhoni is going to be very happy with a draw, these two are the complete opposite of clarke/kohli captaincy.

Smith wasn't going to lose a home series to India during his very first captaincy stint or it would have been a short captaincy stint.

I do think the OZ took a bit too long to get the 380 they wanted. Obviously they wanted to make sure the series was not going to be in question. It was really India that needed to make the running here to keep the series alive.

Good bowling from MJ i have to say Aussies still have very good bowlers who did the batting too this series :P

Pujara has looked out of his depth for a while now. Should be benched for another deserving player.

No he just started looking solid this innings barring a few deliveries.

Think he should be backed. Its not like there are tons of deserving candidates for now plus we don't have a test series for several months from now on.

Poor declaration from the Aussies, played for a draw here.

The match was beyond your team's ability to influence and you had to rely on Smith's generosity to make a game of it then?

Match's is still not over for all you know we can witness the famous Indian collapse. But in honesty this was Aus's match have hardly seen any Australian team captain be that defensive at declaration.

My point. Just sore grapes tbh from the Indians

I think people are just surprised to see Aussies of all team doing this. This would be norm for any other team. However, times they have changed

India needs to win the series and are responsible for forcing a result, not the aussies.

I think Electron is trying to salvage a moral victory somehow by absolving India of blame :D

I guess his team had lost the ability to influence the match and were relying on a generous declaration to keep themselves in the series.

After the fall of the 4th wicket we have already batted for 19 overs!!!!!! I am shocked... it is above my expectations ,whoa!! :o

Sravan: "From now Rahane should take single after 4-5 delveries every over and should retain strike as if he is batting with no.10/11 batsmen...thats the only way India is going to save this test match. "

:P

I back India to lose it now.

Rahane was the only hope.

15 overs way too much for tailender Dhoni and rest of his tail.

Now Dhoni :P .... the poor guy needs some confidence at the moment, this is the time.... save it Man!!!

How lucky is Steve Smith to win the match from where he declared! Or is it his confidence on India's ineptness?

You have 3 batsmen in your side.

Shocking truth.

Vijay, Kohli, and Rahane.

Pujara is iffy.

You can't really win tests with 3.5 batsmen and 0 bowlers.

I'm not sure where people started to think that the Aussies were not just a brave team but also a foolhardy team. At the end of the day Australians are a pragmatic people. "Aussies always go for a win" doesn't mean "Aussies do stupid stuff". You can talk about brave declarations and all the rest of it and that makes sense in the context of certain games. If Australia were in India's position here 2-0 down and needing a win I think they would have definitely risked defeat much more than they did in this game. In this game they made absolutely sure they could not lose but still gave themselves half a chance. Yes that means that they back themselves to win but are willing to risk drawing the game if they can't take the wickets they need.

But let's look past nationalistic chest thumping and focus on the facts:

1. Aus are 2-0 up
2. only need a draw to win
3. India scored 315 in 87 overs in Adelaide on a worse wicket than the MCG
4. India's top order other than Dhawan and Pujara have averaged 65+ with over 1000 runs between them
5. OZ bowling was punished for 350+ runs on Day 3

What they did was treat India's batting lineup with the respect they deserved. And given that they have been setting the pace for the series and also in this Test and India have been chasing the game throughout, the OZ deserve to be the ones making the decisions in the game. All India had to do this morning was take 3 wickets, either 3 tailenders or 2 tailenders and an out of form batsman. Their inability to finish off the OZ tail has been the difference in this series. You don't really want to be in a position where you are relying on another team's generosity to keep your own hopes alive.

True. It's quite sad to note that Australian tailenders have batted better than our top 7 barring the three you mentioned.

We are just looking for a draw and that's not happening you are right about the batsmen.

A better question.

When you have the team at 148-6 , with no chance to win for India, and a new batsmen at the crease why the hell would you not have 4-5 slips plus two gullies????

I think Smith has been quite questionable in his decisions today.

still has a lot to learn, but this is the benefit from appointing a young captain.

Ashwin if he wishes to can survive but whyis he pushing to take a single.

Should have left it alone.

Its all about mindset.

No need to touch the ball unless its necessary.

The fact that Dhoni and Ashwin have nearly similar averages but Ashwin is better outside the sub-continent as a batsmen should seriously force Dhoni to reconsider his place in the Indian test team.

Cricinfo :

" At this point, Ashwin looking much more solid than Dhoni" :)))

Ozgod, I disagree.

With 60 balls left:
Australia requires 4 wickets
India requires 231 runs.

Unless India's lower implodes this is going to be the draw that Smith's hyper-defensive captaincy deserves.

Australia batted for 23 ridiculous overs this morning and added 57 runs.

Now they are paying the price - they only have 60 balls left whereas if they'd declared 7 overs earlier they would have 100 balls left.

The 10 balls that Nathan "Fredo Corleone" Lyon batted and the 3 balls that Hazlewood batted look suicidal now.
