So who would your Aus team be RA.

Conservatively speaking, Krejza for Watson

Ronchi for Haddin, I know Ronchi is raw but he offers something different in the lower middle order. And his keeping looks tidy which Haddin's is not.

If not being conservative, one of our old openers would be out.
And one of Clark, Lee and Johnson would not be playing either.

So what eleven players would you have gone with for this match.

Conservatively:
Hayden
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Haddin (deserved the chance but still looks no good with bat or gloves)
Lee
Johnson
Krejza
Clark

Not conservatively
Marsh
Katich (ugh)
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Ronchi
Krejza
Lee (lucky though)
Johnson (but would like to see him go too)
Siddle

MJ gets 2 wickets, 8/148

Kiwis have thrown away a good chance to put pressure on us

All out 150 , MJ gets four.

Strange innings from New Zealand, their top order was actually pretty Ok but the tail was rubbish? Not normal at all

it happens :D

It looks like few pakistani fans here want Australia to lose badly against Newzealand. Already few folks got exited when they saw aussies getting out for 200+ runs. Sorry guys, I see aussies winning this match in less than 3 days or by lunch on 4th day. :)

Good to see a change in Test cricket. Was tired of seeing runs crossing 400, 500 mark every inning in the past few Test matches. We should have such pitches for every Test match, no matter where they are playing. Pitches such as in Brisbane are the true test of a batsmen, and not those flat pans and dust bowls.

Same here, I like this. This is how you find out how good batsmen really are, on surfaces that test their patience and powers of concentration. Plus all they really need to do is get used to the movement and play themselves in, they should be able to score. That 98 from Pup may end up turning into a matchwinning knock.

No mucking around from Ponting and Krapich, 34 runs from 7 overs.

Well they should frigging know how to play here, this is a good Gabba pitch which was very lively on day 1 but great for scoring on I reckon. It has true consistent bounce and they can hit through the line of the ball.

As Dubya hits through the line of the ball and is out for 17 :batman:

Officially in a form slump now....

And he's out, 2/40. If I'd played that shot when I was in the u-12s my coach would have dropped me for the next match. Retarded shot

Hussey got juked! Bad decision from Rudi this time. McCullum lost any right to call Gilly a cheat after that appeal.

O'Brien to Hussey, OUT, I'm sorry but Hussey is very unlucky to be given the marching orders, O'Brien pitches it on a good length on middle and gets it to move away from the seam slightly, he withdraws the shot and the ball clips his pad before reaching the keeper, McCullum was super confident and Koertzen raised the finger, there was no bat involved at all though it was fairly close to the pad at the point of contact, his disappointment was justified, you have to feel for him

Australia 214 & 40/3 (9.0 ov)
New Zealand 156

What on earth? Is this a pitch or a mine-field?!

whatever it is, I AM LOVING IT!

3/40 now, Clarke needs to consolidate with Krapich. Krapich your country needs you, don't @#$% up for a change.

Maybe we should take lead from our friends over the sea and complain about this decision for the next 5 years.....

If I were the Hobbits I would attack now. Krapich will go into his shell. These guys at the crease just need to concentrate.

98 runs ahead, 7 wickets in hand, Hayden, Hussey & Ponting all in the sheds.....

Hmmm NZ can win this

Let's threaten to cancel the tour and ship the Kiwis back to that rural backwater they call home. :D

We can still do it, we have the bowling attack. But I'd like another 100 runs. I think we can defend 200.

You Aussies should now start enjoying cricket. Now atleast you are getting a chance to watch a competitive and much more balanced match, not those regular bull-dozing that other teams receive from Australia.

Ridiculous shot from Krapich why would you do that?

Yeah , good point. I can only imagine how dull it must have been to have the games be so one sided for a long time.

Are any aussies willing to come out and admit yet that there's been enough on show the past 3 tours australia has been involved in that this is the beginning of the end of Australia cricket domination ?

Not yet. Ask me at the end of this summer and I should have an answer for you though.

Pup gone to a brilliant piece of fielding, run out. 4/53. He may as well start walking, he's defnitely out.

Symmo at the crease. These guys need to concentrate ffs.

Black Craps have a sniff. We need minimum 200 to defend.

Krapich really needs to stand up here. He's the last top order batsman and the one who's been out there on the pitch the longest. Assuming that we get 50 runs from Watto, Haddin and the bowlers, Krapich needs to score the lions share of the runs with Symmo.

Katich is the guy who needs to build up on his good start.

LOL took the words right out of my mouth

These two knuckleheads at the crease need to take a leaf out of Allan Border and Steve Waugh's books and bat us to at least 150 or 200. If we can get there I reckon our bowlers will do the job for us.

This isn't as bad a pitch as the scoreline suggests. Even Krapich seems to be scoring consistently. There's sideways movement and bounce, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for the Gabba. These top order batsmen from both sides (esp. Australia as they have the better credentialled batsmen) will be kicking themselves for getting out.

Good test. But I don't think new zealand can chase anything close or over 200 and aussie will certainly get that and above.

4/84, OZ making slow but steady progress. If Krapich can hang around till stumps I think we'll be home.

50 for Krapich. Well played for a change. But it will all be wasted unless he goes on and makes a big one. He NEEDS to be there till stumps. Then we can knock these Hobbits over tomorrow.

Here comes Vettori. Can he make the breakthrough that the Hobbits need? He plays well against the OZ.

Yes true, looking forward to it if it happens.

Yeah I think we got them now. But they can still win this match.

Was looking nasty at 4/100 though, considering their lower order usually does well against us.

Game slowly getting away from the Hobbits I think. They need a wicket bad. If we can last till stumps with no loss of wickets I think we'll be home.

LOL and as I type woeful shot from Symmo, he should go back to grade cricket after that shot. 5/109.

Twatson needs to just hang around till stumps and let Krapich make the running. 200 will be enough on this wicket.

Symmo needs to give himself an uppercut for that shot. After all the hard work he put in he threw it away.

I thing Aussie team is gonna win this Test and also the series (NZ team lacks the firepower really).

That said, Aussie team is looking very ordinary.

167 lead. Another 70 runs and the game should be safe for the aussies. The black caps will not be able to handle the quickies again. I hope that aussie realise that something is really wrong and they must start jacking themselves up a little bit. It is not the solid aussie side of old but i do not want to see them degenerate any more.

At least they are still competing even when a number of key players are out of form. These are the games where you have to hang in there and win because they build character, particularly for the new blokes like Watto, Haddin etc.

Pathetic from Watto. We were making our way to safety and now we're sliding away again. We're making a mediocre bowler like Chris Martin look good lol.

That said, I didn't expect much from Twatson. I will take another 50 runs, we should be safe.

Pieboy on. Smash this Pie thrower into next week

Katich still in so Australia should be looking for 200 lead here.. can kiwis pull of a SHOCK win.

I see haydunce flopped again!

One over to go till stumps. Survive ffs.

Stumps. 6/131, Haddin and Krapich at the crease. 16 wickets fell today. I think that despite some late wickets from the Hobbits we have this in the bag. I think we have the runs on the board - if Krapich can go on and make a ton we're safe on what has been a seaming wicket that has caused some problems for players (though it shouldn't have).

I have gained a modicum of respect for Krapich today for his perseverance. I rate his innings today higher than his flat track centuries in India and WI.

It will take a big effort for NZ to overhaul a 200+ score tomorrow I think, unless they throw their chances to the gods and start cowlashing IPL style.

I still hate watching Krapic bat, even if he make 300.

NZ will go the smash and our bowling still looks pretty lame.

They are a real show.

Does anyone here thinks Hayden will continue till the Proteas tour Australia ?

Hard to tell with Aussie selectors, they don't leak very much.

He could well get forcibly retired at the end of this Test or continue for the whole summer. You never really know what they are thinking in terms of timing. Everyone knows the plan they have but not the timing.

Marsh will come in for Hayden.

The only thing Hayden needs to do is play just 1 innings of substance in the current series, and that will make the selectors more patient with him. But I do believe he needs to quit after the Ashes next year. Evey player has a shelf life, and one should not leave when their prowess is on the wane.

Should have gone last year........

Does anyone think Ponting will make it to the Ashes next summer, even as a player?

I think we may see a Few Aussies players fall to way side before the Ashes... Haydunce, Haddin and maybe one or two more...

Haddin is definitely on the way out. He was in his prime in Gilly's last years. Seems to have lost the application now :(

Watching Haddin's recent performances and Baugh's laughable efforts against us last week, makes one thankful we got Kami.

They will probably persevere with him till the end of the OZ summer, given that Jaques is out.

It seems that Australia need a spark to reignite them because they look awfully flat at moment. One would have thought that this series would have been an ideal one to regain some much needed confidence!

David Hussey, Braken should not be just labeled as T20 and ODI players. Selectors must consider them for SA.

when the match starts please post. This have been a very interesting match. First test I am seeing in few months
