Guess all we can do is keep it as tight as possible until the ball gets old and starc can go to work, kiwis should be looking to tee off from ball 1 on this deck.

Why did Mitch Johnson retire before this game

Should have been part of the "history"

The great Peter Siddle and the neverbeen Shaun Marsh in for us. Great. And we shuffle the batting order for Marsh. It would be funny but it isn't.

NZ are better than Australia in the UAE.

Overall NZ are a better team than Australia.

Interesting comments from Michael Slater.

"KW's footwork the closest to Sachin's"

"KW the best batsmen in the world at the moment, better than AB"

Hmm this should be an interesting test, will be intriguing to see what the ball does when lights are on as supposedly it starts doing all sorts but than I've heard that many a time before.

I think it's more that the players just can't see the ball at night, it doesn't have to do much to be dangerous when you can't see the damn thing ;)

The lack of visibility helps with getting wickets

The pitch looks fantastic. Already we have spectators taking naps/reading novels/splashing in the pool/basically doing everything other than watching Test cricket. Now this being a day and night test, expect a few to bring in blankets, pillows and night shades as well.

If that's the case hopefully this idea gets shelved quickly, could cause serious injury in the pursuit of more money by these money hungry boards.

The pitches in India are better than this crap, should have played the first night test in India.

I agree i wouldn't mind if the pink ball did swing at night but was still easily visible, lord knows our players need practice facing that sort of stuff but getting out or injured simply because you can't see the ball turns the whole sport into a farce.

As expected Australia will be the first team to sledge in night tests.

If there is such a need of 'evolution' why not simply use a white ball?

Eventually they'll have to resort to a white ball and coloured clothing to play day-night tests. No other colour is gonna work.

The ball is pink for the television cameras to pick it up. White ball is no good when in the sky during the day and red ball is no good in the sky at night.

I assume the white ball was ruled out because they didn't want to use coloured clothes and that the white ball likely couldn't be used for longer than say 40-45 overs.

The color of the ball is all about TV cameras being able to pick the ball up in all situations.

"We have conducted several broadcast trials in recent years which identified the pink ball as the most suitable for use in a day-night Test," James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia CEO said. "However as we move closer to scheduling a match, we felt this was a good opportunity to take advantage of Nine's full-camera set up and help it adequately prepare for a potential day-night Test later this year."

It's grass, but it's straw-coloured dead grass.

I wrote this morning that the curator has lost his nerve and taken off too much live grass.

The ball looks like Pink Panther's turd being thrown around...

Good NZ won the toss, hopefully the match is interesting and no issues at night.

Lyon bowling well, either that or modern batsmen are all at sea against orthodox spin!!

Gone! Full and straight, you miss and I hit buddy! [/Mark Nicholas]

Does Siddle have any long term future? Looks like his loss of pace is massive.
