Aussie comms don't like DRS now.... batting might be boring but you can feel the annoyance in the comm box with this Pakistani approach... hilarious!
 
Dancing Younus is on show... the left leg is crossing over too far... big candidate for LBW
 
Pakistan batting has rotation problem. Its a serious issue. They play too slowly , and when wickets fall , the pressure is always more , because you do not have runs on the board.
 
Younis khan 3 from 21 balls. He should be able to get to to 50 by the end of day.
 
At the MCG it's fine to block the first 20 overs, but from overs 20 to 80 you have to score 4 runs per over.

The risk for Pakistan is the second new ball coming at 240-5 instead of 300-5, and ending up 285 all out.
 
Need to start scoring some runs now. Ball is old and not doing anything on this belter.

What's the good score here? It looks too white wicket for me - may be it'll be fastest on day 2 & become slower with crack from Day 4. 350 a good 1st innings total?

It's possible, even at 45 average level. Do your maths, you can find it yourself - 8 Tests for 18 years is around 150 Tests; I take 10% off - it takes about 70 runs/Test to reach 10K. YK is missing a realistic shot at Tendulkar's record, because for various internal issues, he missed at least 20 Tests & in his best 7/8 years, he hardly had any calendar year with 15-16 Tests.

BCB's management is far, far professional than PCB - I do expect Bangladesh to play 7/8 Test every year in next 4/5 years; after that we'll definitely play more Test than PAK - you can mark this post here.

Bangladesh haven't played 8 tests in a year since 2008. They played 5 tests last year, played two tests in 2016.

But they're gonna play 7/8 tests every year for the next five years?

Azhar is actually scoring well after Lunch. Younus is a complete dud at the other end. Azhar takes one and just watches from other end.

Babar lost his golden opportunity here. Azhar is not the type of batsman, while as long as Misbah is there, Asad & Sarfu will never bat at 4 & 5

Sarfraz will never bat regularly at 5 no matter who the captain is.
 
Another good looking shot from Azhar.

This is why it's okay if Azhar scores slow, he doesn't give his wicket away after he gets through the tough period.

Put it this way: Sohail Khan is going to do a lot of bowling.

It's a 220-2 at Tea and 320-3 at second new ball and 350-5 at the close pitch.

Please explain a bit - ae you saying that AUS would have been 350-5 after 1st day had they batted, because Sohail is going to give 170 in 30 overs?
 
One fundamental difference with Mac is that Josh bowls from wide of the crease, won't get many close calls. He has such a nice high arm action, if he can close the gap by a step, he'll be far better bowler.

Unless it's 40/3. Against Kookaburra, you have to score fast after the 2nd spell of opening pair. Sarfu is the best available at that, because he is not good against new ball - batting him at 7 means, most times, he'll come to face the 2nd ball. It's a tactical call - against IND, I would have sent him at 4 to face Ashwin.

It's elementary strategy in AUS that you attack old ball. What made that AUS side almost invincible is that they had a blonde torturing for 25 overs between 20 to 80, even on day 1. Now, that luxury is not there & both SRL, SAF has exploited that. Just check, what Lankans have done after the opening bowlers had finished their 2nd spell. Now, Azhar is not that type - if he tries, he'll get out; he is doing his role fantastically. YK is incapable now, and so is Misbah, while Babar couldn't carry even once after doing the tough job. So who else? If PAK goes to 80th over 201/4; if not tonight, after rest tomorrow morning Aussies will get Sarfu for cheap.

In AUS, you can win or lose playing positive game, but you'll definitely lose by playing UAE game.
 
Pak just beginning to look comfortable for the first time.

Don't throw it away now guys.
 
Pakistan need to grind here and get a good score , work hard . Hard work in first innings will pay in the second.

Along with that Azhar Ali has reached 1000 Test Runs In 2016. Averaging above 55 this year.
 
50 runs partnership. Azhar Ali better get a big score, he always throws it away after settling down.

Yah, but that shouldn't be the plan to score 450. It will work 1 out of 10 times with tails scoring their best scores.
