Bowling Starc is pointless here. Outside of that one ball, he hasn't looked threatening at all. Keep his powder dry for the last 2 wickets.

Continue with Lyon + Hazlewood/Bird until Sarfraz is gone or Pakistan are 8 gone.
 
Remember when some fans wanted us to bat quickly and declare at 350 in the first innings? :srt
 
This is a lot worse than Chennai if Pakistan loses. India were even odds to win at the start of the last day.
 
Looks like that declaration wasn't that wise. That time, I think I had 3 posts on why declare instead of blast around, get some run & allow Azhar to carry through. It was such dumb idea that 3 posts didn't have a single response - looks like may be it was not the dumbest idea though. I haven't played much cricket, but I do know what happens in AUS wickets, when you are a bit behind, playing to pass time & wickets starts to crack on Day 5 - PAK should have known it better than me, because in 1971, Intekhab lost a Test after declaring at 574/8 - Ittefaq se, wuo vi MCG hi tha ......& this chap Bari was the WK.
 
i dont think i can bring myself to follow pak anymore
 
Pak do have some super hero powers every now and then.....they can suddenly change the complexion of a dead match into lively one in no time
 
Lyon should be bowling here. Smith is not having confidence in him despite him bringing back Aus in this game.

Much like sweeping your first two balls even though they have a man at 45° for the top edge. GOTTA BE AGGRESSIVE! :misbah :afridi
 
If pak survive this then their tail deserves some serious credit

In such pressure situation against some top quality bowlers is no easy task
 
Pakistan is such an unpredictable side.

Plays like a top quality team in one half of the game and plays like minnows in the other half.

There is nothing which cant happen with this team whether it is the best of the best or worst of the worst.

They've already made the decision to drop him so it looks bad if he takes a bagful of wickets today.
 
Pakistan should still get a draw if they bat sensibly. Surviving 30 overs on this pitch shouldn't be too hard.
 
Starc's hypothetical average is reaching ATG level now. So many plays and misses ! :amir

Another 10 overs without wicket will go a long way otherwise Aus will feel pretty good up taking the game here.
 
I'm not surprised by this, but Australia's tactics in the first hour may save Pakistan here.

In Bengali, there is a term - "Shoutterer vum" - which roughly means, when old men becomes crazy to marry 2nd time to some young lady. Now, for Cricket, 45 is like 75 & Misbah has got crazy to lead a series in AUS.

At least, I wish he'll show some dignity & self-respect to step down before SCG Test, like MS did.

Australia were horrible in that first hour, no clear idea what they were looking to achieve.

He won't step down before Sydney test, but he'll definitely retire after the test regardless of the outcome of the match.
 
Still draw is more sensible.

I wouldn't bet any money at this point.
 
The pitch has no demons , its just the pressure . Australia would have lost some wickets also in similar situation

Pitch has been pretty good for entire test and that's why have big first innings from both sides. It's stupid batting from Pakistan in second go.

Because we are jazbaati and junooni people and are too attached to this team.

I've been following Pak religiously since 2007. The sad moments easily outnumber the joyous ones. But I still keep coming back. Cricket is like chars for some of us.

Tough, in no hope situation, PAK plays stupid cricket - did the same at Birmingham. Again, I'll refer back to the QA style of cricket, where these players mock for 250 overs FC style, which is basically a fight for 1st innings lead - unless the wicket is an absolute shocker. These players don't play in Counties anymore & they don't know what is called grinding out a draw on cracking wicket on Day 4, when you have to bat out overs hopelessly in a FC match that has 400+ overs.

Yeah, Lyon's the reason they have new batsmen at the crease and he's not bowling him to make the selectors job easier.
 
The 2 bats look settled, Aus missed a trick by not bowling Lyon from the begining.A calm head and Pak can salvage a draw
 
28 overs left. Imagine surviving 20 overs and losing 4 wickets in last 8.:yk
 
Smith will now give Lyon 3 overs in the end and then complain that he was unable to win them the game. Apart from this his captaincy has been good in this game. Much better than Brisbane
