What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Melbourne | Dec 26-30, 2016 | Day 5

Smith will now give Lyon 3 overs in the end and then complain that he was unable to win them the game. Apart from this his captaincy has been very good

lot of time left

we are losing this 99%

lets say Pak get to end with a wicket left somehow (cant see it with almost 30 overs left)

do Aussies then get option to play extra half hour?

Getting a lead here is important even if it is just 1 run. The time it takes between innings could be crucial

lol I doubt that's gonna happen.

It's not gonna happen, it's "has to be manufactured" - otherwise Misbah might try to win the Series next time in 2019. In Asia, we don't know when to retire gracefully - Javed was even worse shape, when he forced his way to WC team & Kapil broke Hadlle's record almost crawling with one knee.

Sanga, Imran & Gavaskar - may be Dravid & Mahela are few cricketers that left the game when people were asking why, rather than why not.

At least, I was quite happy that Basher, Rafique & Aminul retired when they were actually selected for the next tour.

lol if we can get a lead its almost certainly a draw

i think pak shouldve sent sohail at 4 or 5 and ask him to whack some valuable runs and see where it goes

nope. the extra half hour isnt a bonus half hour you get.. it has to be taken from somewhere .. from the next day's play. since this is the 5th day.. no chance

I just think that Misbah is unlike other Pakistani cricketers. I might be wrong, but I don't think he'll carry on after this series regardless of what happens in the upcoming days.

Bhai you are asking for too much logic from Misbah and Mickey

Nope, It will be 15 overs minimum when the last hour starts.

Overs done then game finished no question of extra half hour one hour or one day

for his own good he should retire end of this test

he will win a lot of goodwill for knowing when to leave and not be a burden

There is no such thing as a jinx.

You either draw it or lose it.

Dont blame jinxes for incapability or capability.

Miandad spot could have gone to a batting all rounder. It would have made pakistan team more balanced. Sohail , malik and all rounder would have got them 10 - 15 overs in those conditions easily.

Sarafaraz can never give you assurance man...

and def not a calming influence for tailenders

Well atleast our current runrate is better than the last innings lol

I also thought so - but tell me, which way he is different from others. He has carried on playing for too long; he has managed to take the average Official age to 31 in this era of cricket, he is absolutely spell bound & stubborn on his ideas, his team & his strategy.

He is highly educated, hence you don't expect cheap shots from him like others, many of whom didn't finish high school - but, we should expect different vision from different personality; sadly Misbah is damaging his reputation here.

Or, you know... the seniors could have actually taken some responsibility.

Because we are jazbaati and junooni people and are too attached to this team.

I've been following Pak religiously since 2007. The sad moments easily outnumber the joyous ones. But I still keep coming back. Cricket is like chars for some of us.

That is frighteningly accurate. Like I have had moments where I plan to quit eg after that Asia cup loss to India where we folded for less than 100 ( But I found myself watching the t20 world cup again)

Even in games I know we will lose 100% I would be back..

Good from Sarf to play the way he plays. If without losing wicket Pakistna can get close to wiping this lead then it will go a long way in saving this test.

How many overs are lost between the small break if Pakistan manages to take a small lead and Aus comes back to bat?

The fact that he retired after 2015 WC, even when some prominent figures wanted him to continue, is enough evidence of his decency for me.

We might think that it's good for Misbah if he calls it a day after this test, but there will be factions in Pakistan ready to label him as "buzdil" because of retiring in the middle of a series.

Majority of Pakistan doesn't see things as some of us do and Misbah knows that.

Sarfaraz is looking to clear deficit here

too many runs left still

but i guess with someone with a shoddy, poor defence like sarfaraz this is way to go

but i feel he'll edge on off bird or top edge on off lyon anytime

Would be fun if there are 2 overs in australias innings with 20 odd to win

I guess, we have 91 minutes left with extension; therefore don't think 25 overs are possible.

Another 47 runs means 10 extra minutes - also, Sarfu needs to change his Box at least once.

It would be pretty exciting if Pakistan manages to get a lead of 30 and then Australia comes to bat.

Misbah wanted to retire in 2015 but the PCB asked him to continue, it's all out there on the public record. He's been happy to retire for a while.

With 2 overs left and then Amir gets a double hattrick and Sohail picks up 4.

that particular faction has had it in for Misbah since day one.

So its a futile exercise to win them over.

they willl criticise him regardless of what he does

Imagine the final 4 wickets falling in the last 3 overs. That would be something. :))

lmao :)))

Rahat the destoryer to come on as substitute fielder take 2 blinders and runs out a couple as well

Shoaib being a little desperate with whole weather forecast stuff.

I think he's carried on for this long because he was waiting for one really really really bad series to be sure 100% that he's done.

Even though he wasn't anything special in England, he did good enough for him to think of himself as capable enough of continuing. He wasn't bad in the windies series either IIRC. He only played one test in NZ.

This has been the first series where he has totally flopped. He limitations and regressing ability has been exposed and he knows it better than anyone which is why I think he'll call it quits after this series regardless of what happens in the upcoming days.
