This is how a long batting line up is helping. Still got Rizwan and Imad at the back who can both bat. Means it's unlikely we get run through in all fifty overs if just one batsman clicked. Before if he played five bowlers (who none could really bat), once we were four wickets down, it was the last stand.

Even if Umar scores, he just doesn't play like a proper batsman anymore, he's just a slogger. Might be worth opening with him seeing if that forces him to revert. But think the man just panics and slogs his way through. And most of these type of sloggers bowl, which umar doesn't. It's so sad, both him and Jamshed should have been top tier LOI batsmen. Haris should have been too but got injured, but lets see if he comes back the same. Maqsood who not as talented as those three should have been a good ODI batsman too, though not in the league of those three. At least Babar is performing right now.

Umar - fitness and poor form aside - plays the brand of cricket that we should be playing in ODIs so discarding him completely is not an option.

There are bigger liabilities at our disposal such as Azhar, who will never play the brand of cricket we are trying to play.

We are scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of dynamic batting talent, can't afford to discard Umar for good.
