What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Sydney | Jan 3-7, 2017 | Day 3

Meanwhile - this is YK's highest score in Australia now!

Really hope he now makes a big hundred!

I expected more fight from Misbah!

Misbah's lack of interest is on display. This is surely his last test. Even his slogs lack conviction.

I could see he wasn't mentally there, but I wonder why he bothered to play at SCG? Could have easily got injured.

What has MIsbah done

He has been doing this ever since the second innings of the First Test in England. It was worse at Christchurch.

He has checked out mentally from international cricket.

Misbah is probably capable of averaging a Hafeez-like 15-20, but he has lost the mental toughness to dig in, which is why he is averaging 7.60 in this series.

It's why the idea of "going out with dignity at Sydney" was never going to happen.

I see you are still upset about Azhar's runout. ;-)

Okay and your point is? Azhar has arguably had the best series of his career and announced himself to the world whereas Shehzad isn't even in the team for more than two years. He doesn't have a lot to do other than like tweets on Twitter.

Basically Misbah is clueless and scared of pacers so he goes bananas against spinners

He should announce retirement at the end of the day's play.
If Misbah announces his retirement now, he can retain some dignity and respect.

But if he doesn't, he looks like a desperate African dictator, whose whole life is built upon clinging to the trappings of power, and who will cling on by his fingertips to the end.

Tonight is a real crossroads. Misbah can exit with dignity or he can become the Robert Mugabe of Cricket.

lol at people comparing Ahmad Shahzad to Azhar Ali. He isn't even fit to tie Azhar Ali's shoes.

He would've been bracketed alongside Swann the deserter.
Regardless of what he did, or didn't do, this wasn't going to end well for him or Pak.

On the flip side who would've been the captain, Azhar & if so would he have done as well opening as he's done this innings?

What does Shehzad have anything to do with this thread or even this match?

And yes - Azhar had a great series and is in a purple patch but this series will most likely be remembered for Misbah's disastrous end to his career and another 3-0 whitewash in Australia.

Doc, I see the hyperbole is not lost on you.

I think, that stage is over. We can sugar coat his departure, but truth is, apart of PAK, any other Test country, he would have been sacked after SCG Test. Therefore, retiring after SCG doesn't mean anything to me - his last chance was MCG - just like Kim Hughes, 32 years back, almost same day.

If he announces it now even a defeat will be bathed in a sentimental warm glow.

But if the match ends without an announcement first, it just looks like Misbah was trying to hang on and perform enough to extend his reign.

Basically, every day of this match that passes without an announcement just makes Misbah look selfish and desperate to go on and on.

Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali are the future of pakistan test opening for next 5 6 years.

This I agree with.

Sharjeel lacks the temperament for Test cricket and Shehzad is a better strokemaker than Sami (although Sami is good at grinding it out and playing out the new ball but is simply too slow)

I was just pointing out your hypocrisy.

How?

A lost cause is a lost cause whether Shehzad, Azhar or anyone is batting.

Personal records can't hide the fact that we got demolished again in this tour and now need a miracle to prevent a 3-0 defeat.

YK's chances of hitting a hundred is about 1:30 odd ...........

Really hope YK gets to the elusive hundred in Australia!

Exactly.

Any team with a modicum of ambition or self-respect would sack Misbah at the end of this match if he doesn't get his retirement in first.

It's not just about averaging 7.60 with the bat.

It's also about spectacularly weird and whacky field placements, terrible selections and utter misuse of the bowlers that he has got.

I've been watching Test cricket from Australia for decades. I've seen some pretty poor captaincy.

But Misbah's captaincy this year is the worst in Australia in my lifetime. By a very wide margin.

I have to admit - most of the things you said have turned out to be true!

Mine too. I think, I have seen some gems - MoYo, MSD, Madhugale, Adams ... but this was royal.

I wonder what Smith just got told off for.

Perhaps the umpires want to know how a wet ball is reversing?

Sad to see Misbah not finishing on high, but it does not matter as he has had a great career and I salute him for that. Misbah will retire after this game before anybody says anything to him as he understands that it is time. His captaincy has been bad this series, but this can happen to any captain in Australia. Our bowlers have performed horribly in this series, so all the blame should not go to Misbah. Let's celebrate his career and send him off with all the respect he deserves!

Once more, Sarfy is coming to face the new ball .......

MMHS sarfraz comes out to bat just before the 2nd new ball lol again

Shafiq is a mental midget. Only does well when he is not expected too but always fails when there are expectations and responsibilities.

Well played great man - equals Sunny & Brian on 34, made in all possible 11 countries.

Well played Younis Khan.

I think it's time to go, because the consistency is gone, but I admire how hard he trains and what is left of his ability.

This was technical flaw though. I wrote it at MCG - Asians don't push at spin, rather waits for the ball to come on & dabs it with loose bottom hand. An inside edge was waiting to happen for his lunging forward push.

Well played YK. well played. His haters will have to endure him for a long while. This guy's going no where :yk

Congratulations to FTB. Predicted even before the series started that he'll fail in all matches except the last one, just like what happened in England. Feel free to go through my old posts.

Hopefully he gets to his selfish milestone that he has always wanted in this match - so we're out the way and done with and he leaves for forever. Needs 107 more runs.

Misbah should keep his head high. Had a great career. Time for him to hang it up. Same goes for Younis. Finish his 10,000 runs and then retire.

I told you, he is unreal for a man of 43. Imagine him playing 13/14 Tests every year between 2005 to 2014 - had a realistic chance of crossing Tendulkar's volume.

So you guys think, with Misbah's possible retirement, should Younis also retire on a high or continue to guide the team, as losing 2 seniors would be disastrous?

misbah def. gone. YK- you couldn't drag out if you wanted to. I predict another 6-12 months atleast

Younis now has centuries in all 11 countries. He is the first batsman to do so. Rahul Dravid also achieved this in all countries, apart from the UAE.
