What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Sydney | Jan 3-7, 2017 | Day 3

No, Swann is an English snob with very little shame & sense. For someone chickening out after hammering from Aussies doesn't command a dig at someone scoring a series saving Double in front of his Queen's palace.

No, we don't.

that may be your opininon but yk should play 2017 season
he has to guide these new youngsters babar sharjeel and sami
if he retires then we ll have only one reliable player that is azhar
shafiq is still mentally weak

No, he does not.

Really? You mean to say he's scored all his 34 hundreds and 10K runs in the last match of every series he's played?

Aray bhai I mean recently,he looked a bit scratchy and past his best.I guess I was a bit vague with my earlier statement?

How does that benefit anyone? Let the youngsters hammer the Windies and gain some confidence and experience.
well if he keeps doing well, then its not a bad thing. remember, misbah will vacant a spot for a youngster.

also, he probably considers himself a youngster!

definitely too far but Umesh was excellent this home season. terrified NZ and Eng. He's our :wahab2

Yep, been good in India but surely doesn't make it in the XI ahead on the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Dale Steyn, Vern Philander, and Mohammad Shami/Amir.

Had Sarfu came at 5 instead of Misbah, by now could have been 85 balls veteran ..........

Do you think Sarfraz's batting number will be changed after Misbah's departure and once Mickey supposedly "takes over"?

Ha ha.

But isn't The Oval on the other side of the river?

Sarfaraz owes the team a hundred for all those missed chances. He basically dropped the game the 1st match.

Do you think Sarfraz's batting number will be changed after Misbah's departure and once Mickey supposedly "takes over"?

probably no - for 2 reasons. 1. there will be younger No. 5, may be Shafiq coming up one slot & 2. With Misbah gone, we'll see the end on 2+2 bowling strategy. Mickey will play couple of all-rounders, therefore by default Sarfu comes at 6.

Well, gotta hand it to YK, flat pitch but he's still out there and he's still gotta score the runs. That's the difference between him and Misbah.

Junaids - leave it, I haven't seen YK driving so well in some months. He'll score at least 3K runs, if he plays till ENG 2019.

I told you, he is unreal for a man of 43. Imagine him playing 13/14 Tests every year between 2005 to 2014 - had a realistic chance of crossing Tendulkar's volume.
Sure.

I think Ijaz Butt's preposterous ban on Younis from the Australia and England tours in 2009 and 2010 created the situation in which with wafer thin batting the two matchfixing and one spotfixing cliques took root.

Cricket is often won or lost by small margins in the middle of a match leaving a series one-sided.

This current series really should be 0-0 currently if Pakistan had bothered to pick their best team, use sensible fields and arrive early enough to acclimatise.

And those series in 2009 and 2010 also hung on Pakistan not bothering to pick some of their best batsmen.

Good, Sarfu lasts 2.2 overs & now PAK's tail will face 10 overs music, then if they still not put to sleep, tomorrow morning again.
Junaids - do you think, playing 3/4 all-rounders would have saved the tail in such situation? My formula is a bit different - on good wickets, you should reach 3/4 down at 100th over, so that the 2nd ball is negotiated by specialist set pair. PAK could have done that with 1 down, barring a silly run out - YK is still at one end & Azhar looked immovable.

If any positive that PAK pacers can take from this series is from the length two 6'5"+ pacers bowling at. I think, speed gun should be banned from PAK cricket - it's spoiling the pacers.

For a change - I am seriously asking; if YK decides to play for one more season, how about making him Captain & keep Azhar relaxed? In fact YK as Captain & Amir/Babar deputy - Sarfu is just not solid enough for an investment like Test Captain.

89 to get - he has 2 more bites left in this match.

Sarfrazs failures are making a case for kamran akmal , poor behind the stumps and irresponsible in front of them.

Younis khan has been the second best batsman for us in this series and everyone wants him to retire because he is done? Other than azhar no batsman has even come close to having a good series...asad had one great innings and a total of 70 runs in the entire series other than that.....younis had starts in almost all the innings and has scored a ton here too when everyone else is falling apart like anything. He has played a part in every series over the past 5-6 years other than the newzealand one and you want him to retire? Yes misbah is done and should retire but younis should play till we have a replacement who can score consistently in all conditions.
For all those who say he scores in dead rubbers and flat tracks (maybe he does) the point is that atleast he scores, no one else seems to be doing that regulary in our team nowdays. If he retires along with misbah now believe me when i say our team will crumble, just look at srilanka after mahela and sanga retired in quick succession. Everyone scores more in favourable conditions but we dont cry about them do we? Just look at warner(14 of his 17 centuries are in australia but he is the best opener of this era?) Most of kohlis test centuries are either in india or on bating friendly pitches but hes the greatest of all time?

Finally all i can say is that we should show some respect to our legends because younis is one AND he is our greatest test batsman whether you like it or not. If it wasnt for him we probably would be sitting with srilanka and westindies in test criket terms let alone be world no 1 (which i credit younis more than misbah). Regardless of how bad he was in limited overs games he still won you a world cup too as a captain.

The only certainty from this squad after this series is Ajju. The rest have been atrocious.

Atrocious...

There is a well set batsman still at the crease!

Where is all the fight gone? Complete mental breakdown.

My goodness - never knew that Wahab's average is lower than even Mushtaq & Waquar!!!!!!!!

What a useless mentality from Pakistan. Nobody capable of digging in and supporting Younis, not even the captain himself. Sarfraz just plays for himself. See off the new ball and then cash in on what is still a good pitch. Unfortunately Younis is going to run out of partners at this rate.

Hope Smith enforces the follow on.

i guess there's a case for batting again- you don't want to face yasir on this pitch on day 5. but Aus, with their previous bat again debacle in 1st test, should enforce the follow on if they can. keep it simple.

No one bothered to post on this? What are the other options?

They'll bat again - I can bet on that. Aussies are not numpty like us that media mockery will change their strategy. around 200 overs left in this match - I take 30 for the 3 wickets max. 170 overs with 200+ lead - bat for 50 overs & take that to 400+ & set 120 overs for 10 wickets, covering 1 session for rain, with fresh bowlers on a Day 5 SCG wicket.

Unless there is major weather threat, Aussies won't enforce the FO.

I don't know what happened to him in UK, but here he is playing Starc perfectly, waiting for the pitched-up ball to come & avoiding short ones without dance.

100% sure they'll bat again.
