What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Sydney | Jan 3-7, 2017 | Day 4

Who should he turn to? Bowl himself? How long can two pacers bowl? Two spinners are on at the moment. Amir is out of the gorund

There is a lefti slogging with the spin - Misbah must have forgot that Asad is in playing XI. At this age, not surprising though .....

Even when defending you need to have a plan... clearly there is none here. It's just.. spinners keep bowling at 8 runs per over and all fielders go back to the boundaries and defend Sixes.

Where is Inzi these days not making any comment about our bowling performance as he was very quick to make statement immediately after the first innings in Brisbane.

I dont think Saha has missed more chances than Dhoni. He is a tad slower in stumpings but a much better catcher against pace. He covers a lot of ground behind the wicket to pacers where Dhoni was lead footed and often didnt even attempt going after a catch

solid keeper Saha. his batting is his weakness. defensive player, also struggled in Eng and Aus. I believe he cost us the series in AUS two years ago( a bit harsh you might say). his wicket was crucial in that batting collapse in Adelaide 1st test.

I like him though. overall i can't be too harsh with him, knowing what patel's keeping is like:facepalm: plus, he tries his best. you can always appreciate that.

Smith is so terrified of the pure pace of Azhar's quicker ball and the potential to cause career ending damage that he's declared early, leaving us a paltry 465 to win.

Junaids, form possibility of winning the Series, this was a bit too much. Now, the target is 465 or at least 114 overs - what do you think, with Butt, PAK could have won, saved this Test?

I have a feeling Pakistan will save this even without Butt.

The top and middle order can't fail twice on a flat track.

:misbah
i actually wish Sharjeel comes out and does a warner. I want to see another look of panic on Smith's face.

Sharjeel indeed is a Warner, in Quaid E Azam estyle; he batsat 83 SR there. He has nothing to prove here.

You'll see Smith's face once the ball starts to Turn in India.

Sharjeel to make fastest double century and chase this target with ease.

What would I give for Sharjeel to make a century here even if we lose.

To see the panic on Smiths face would be priceless

Shockingly poor bowling , last 10 overs 94/1.

That's one part - other part is team composition - unless you are batsman like Ramakant Desai, Abid Ali, Eknath Solkar, Madan Lal or Roger Binney - you won't play for India as a pacer. A similar approach we see from England now regarding spinners. If Imran Khan & Shoila Khan & Rahat Ali is the limit, then I'll say play one of Amir or Wahab & play 2 like Hammad or Yamin & load the side with 3 spinners - the 3rd one being MoHa. From 1 to 9 batsman, who can save a Test, at least try for it.

If Misbah sticks for next round of AUS/SAF Tour - he'll pick a team that has Amir & Yasie at 10 & 11; rest are all-rounders.

Got it tbh its not like we had many bowlers in our domestic in those years but also I read in one interview of Kapil as to how hard it was to tell at camp he wanted to be a bowler and he wanted more food to eat but they mocked him.

No AUS wicket is flat, trust me. We can bash PAK batsmen, but they actually exceeded my expectation. AUS wickets are fast, with lots of bounce which cracks on Day 5. For that sort of fast & bouncy wicket, even slight deviation is enough compared to what we see in UAE or QA style - if you can catch well, it's impossible not to get 10 wickets in 110 overs. Key is the length with new ball - if it swings on this track, I can see PAK going to dinner 3 down tonight.

Forget Sharjeel, Azhar about to release all his demons on this pitch.

200 off 60. You heard it here first.

If your question starts on Day 1, with Butt, Umar Akmal and Asif in the team in place of Sharjeel, Misbah and Imran:

Pakistan would just have been dismissed in their First Innings for 430 in reply to Australia's 490 all out. Certain draw, concluding a 0-0 series.

But if your question starts now, I reckon Pakistan with Butt and Umar Akmal in the team they would be 40-0 at the close today, 130-2 at Lunch and 230-4 at Tea tomorrow, with the Aussies to wrap it up with the second new ball.

It's hard to do yourselves justice without the top performing opener, top performing middle order batsman and top performing quick bowler from last time around.

Warner if given easy Indian pitches could unleash carnage.

You never know.
I feel he struggles and mistimes when the ball grips and stops a bit after hitting the pitch

And even flat Indian pitches do that

Azhar is in tremendous touch - wished he retired from ODI and focused on breaking YK's PAK Test record ....

Sharjeel is much more likely to do well against Starc

Hazelwood type of bowling is his poison

I feel he struggles and mistimes when the ball grips and stops a bit after hitting the pitch

And even flat Indian pitches do that

There was very little grip in the pitches for the England series.

If there is good grip, scoring lots of runs can be tough. Scoring fast even tougher. But both happened.

I get your point though.

Aussies are very good at hitting through the line; here in AUS even you take the pace out, ball comes on to bat. I can categorically say Ash will bowl at least 5KM slower at average than Pom series.

wonder how Hazelwood will do in India

everyone and his dog knew that we cant even draw a test match in australia let alone win one.

lol pakistanis now taking console in the feeling that australia would be thrashed in india. come on guys.

I just hope we make it through tonight unscathed

Should Sharjeel spare Starc and only hit 2 boundaries per over?

I feel he struggles and mistimes when the ball grips and stops a bit after hitting the pitch

And even flat Indian pitches do that

That would be true had he been new to Indian flat pitches but he plays in IPL and has caused considerable damage, his quick 100s could hurt India as Smith can pick up from that.

Hopefully Kohli/Indian management realizes they don't have to bother about foreign media and just prepare rank turners.

Starc is the true express bowler of our times

Rest are pretenders. who can may be bowl a few overs of it here and there

As Dr_Bassim already said this is heading for a draw and one would expect Pakistan not to fail twice on flat pitches.

Question is would they go for the chase though.

Is it just me or does anybody else hate Hazelwood's smug stare and smile after every ball?:ibutt

Did anyone expect this type of hammering of one the top rated bowling attack?

Pakistan will be bundled out again.Flat pitch can't do anything for them.
