What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Sydney | Jan 3-7, 2017 | Day 4

Will the first session get rained out tomorrow as well?

we will most certainly lose then

our best chance is that its sunny and no swing, and a few batsmen get in

if theres cloud cover and moisture in the air i think we'll be rolled over in a session and half

Don't worry, no smug stare in India for him, only maybe out of desperation.

Lol I love bowlers sledging, don't really mind bowlers like Starc. It just shows that the bowler wants to get your wicket desperately and respects your wicket.

It's the smug stares that get me. Reminds me of one another smug bowler.:jimmy

Nah..There are just 2 pacers in the match. The ball will stop moving after 10 overs or so. If you can see off the opening spell, you can be very comfortable.

News has arrived to me that :rahat (The Destroyer) spoke with Sharjeel before the start of this innings.....

We all know what that indicates !! Dark times for the Aussies I guess

trolling on its peak..but but amir was not there.....lolz......i think ur tigers also had a terrible day..

Tigers have become cats in New Zealand and it seems that they will turn into mice when test series will begin.Nevertheless, trolling is good for health.

Right on cue the ball is deposited into the sight screen :rahat1

on serious note...do u see sharjeel agression to be good for test with a sedate opener like azhar or sami if azhar moves to one down when the seniors retire?

Sharjeel has worked on his driving for sure - just need to move the front leg a bit more assertively when driving.

this is why Sharjeel should be backed for all 3 formats ... scoring runs, putting the opposition under the pump, that's what we lack up front in our test team. Sharjeel adds the dynamism. Give him a long run.

Depends - aggression is always better, if it can be done selectively. But 35 of 23 is nothing in Test for a opener - it exposes No. 3 & 4 to 1st spell. Sehwag, Gayle has 2 triple each, now we are watching Warner - there was Grineedge, scored a double in 2 sessions on day 5 & a 134 out of 211.

At present SK is a sloger - even bowler's don't know how they got him. He has to bat for longer to be effective.

Motionless front foot and can't even drive a slow full toss. He better not try to play through that cover/extra cover region.

C'mon Sharjeel, don't give in against Hazlewood ... keep calm and attack Lyon instead.

This is (43*) Pakistan's highest opening partnership in seven Tests in England and Australia in the last one year. Copy pasted stat.

Don't think we would have gotten this score had Sharjeel was not around. Azhar's slow batting is not helping.

How many runs does Azhar need to break Williamson's record which you were talking about earlier?

Actually, he grips the bat too low & very tight - driving close to body will be a tough shot for him. Can't use the free swing of the bat. Indian & English batsmen are best driver for their top hand grip - even BD & Lankan players as well, Tamim is probably the most fluent driver on the rise, while AUS, SAF and lost generation of WI cricketers were better cutters & pullers.

seen enough of :sharjeel huge upside to the team because of the way he plays.should be backed long term.

"He's got no intent at the moment"

*next ball goes to the boundary"

40 of 37 - not much difference from 35 of 23 ........ a decent innings for ODI, but now Babar will come &Smith will bring Starc.

forget about his technique. sehwag could look suspect technically too. its the output. not a bad debut-40 second innings.

Good to see positive intention by Sharjeel.Sami would play in this pitch like minefield with his endless tuk tuk and score 10 of 60.

In this situation runs aren't that important though, time spent at the crease is. 20 from 80 balls would be more valuable than 40 from 38

Which would have been more useful

This NWM concept is such a wastage - this morning Yasir batted for an hour & half; here is sent to fail; tonight or tomorrow morning.

Junaids, form possibility of winning the Series, this was a bit too much. Now, the target is 465 or at least 114 overs - what do you think, with Butt, PAK could have won, saved this Test?
Does anybody in the universe think that Salman Butt would have got out trying to hit over mid-on for 40 in the eleventh over while trying to save the match?

Every. Single. Test. Has. Been. Ruined. By. The. Exclusion. Of. Asif. And. Butt.

What a wonderful opening pair Azhar and Butt would have been in Aussie conditions.

Pakistan's selectors just sent the team out on a suicide mission.

So Rahat remains the only Pakistani batsman not to get out to a bowler in this series :rahat

not how he plays so unfair to criticise him for that. plus there's room for both sami and :sharjeel after misbah goes.

Cricket is not about survival its about scoring.
You can't score when you're already out.

These 15 overs tonight should have been:

Pakistan 40-0 (15 overs)
Azhar Ali 13 not out (48)
Salman Butt 25 not out (42)

Sharjeel if he had batted like this and scored a century, it would've sent shivers down Aussie spine..

Alas, our batsmen are more error prone, even if they are playing on the most UAE pitch ever with 2 spinners, and the ball flat as a deck

Need to be patient with Sharjeel. He's a long term investment.

Narrow minded, impatient pakistani fans just wont see that. Its laughable when i hear someone call him a slogger. In terms of natural ability, hand eye coordination and timing, not a single batsman in Pakistan is as good as this guy.

So Rahat remains the only Pakistani batsman not to get out to a bowler in this series :rahat

There is a reason I've bemoaned his exclusion from the team instead of wasting my time on the likes of Asif and Butt like some other delusional posters.

Rahat is the key man in all facets of the game and I'm glad more people's eyes are being opened to the truth :rahat1

I think Indians would've been licking this pitch the way its behaving on a final day.. I reckon they could've chased this total down..

This pitch is as easy as a t20 pitch if you ask me

40 off 38, showing that it's just a flat pancake track and getting some runs on the board before the first wicket goes down.

Besides, who knows if someone like Aslam would last 80 balls, I very much doubt it.

I am not happy with his shot, otherwise probably would have said, after all these he matched Butt's average in this innings.

You write lots of good points, but your problem is constant effort to find logic to make Butt as Jack Hobbs & Asif as Hadlee in Australia.

Remember Warner took time to flourish at test level ... Sharjeel should be invested in for a good 15-20 test matches on the trot to see if he can show signs of being an impact opener. In just his brief 40 we saw him put pressure on Aussies ... we have lacked this sorely since the game has advanced in the last 6-7 years in terms of scoring rate. He is a player that should be backed and given confidence because he's got natural ability to put the bad balls away. He can be our Warner if persisted with.

have to admit.

i love your hypothetical scores. And the detail woah. You're adding number of deliveries faced too now.

Umar might have scored a 80 (85) Im guessing?
