Australia v South Africa | Austrlia win 3rd Test against South Africa by 7 wickets in Adelaide

Never seen the batsmen call for DRS when they have edged the ball, its happened twice in this match. Could SA be trying out something on their bats to see if they can fool hotspot?.

Most dismisses were abysmal, awful shot selection

This has been a great effort by cook, all the chat were is about his technique but he's mentally got right

If any of you were wondering why the Adelaide crowd has been so hostile to FAF, this is the only Adelaide newspaper's front page from the first day of the match....

Fascinating day today because the new ball is only 11 overs away.

Obviously Cook and De Kock are the last recognised batsmen. Although Philander can bat.

And twilight is an enormous 60 overs away.

South Africa's only hope -other than cloning Fanie De Villiers - is to bat until 10 overs after lunch and set Australia a target around 200.

At the risk of sounding star-struck, I have just met Neil Harvey coming out of the lift at the hotel!

Neil Harvey!!!!!!

I don't care who wins now.

I tell you what, the Adelaide Test is the best in the world for hobnobbing with the players.

This morning I met KP at the toaster, had Michael Slater at the next table and missed out on the cheese when Michael Clarke sliced the last piece in half, put half on his plate.....and then out the other half in his mouth.

Just like with Lyon last year, a bizarre DRS decision.

A clear but tiny spike as it passed the bat, yet given LBW!

Yes - I am also surprised, if that's not conclusive enough!!!!!!!!

Clear gap between the bat and ball on the split screens and nothing on hot spot, definitely no edge.

Aleem Dar utterly incompetent beyond words.

Disgraceful stuff bowing to the Australian media pressure after they criticized him for the past 2 tests.

As Jimmy Neesham tweeted a year ago when DRS was similarly misused in favour of the Aussies at Adelaide.....

Exactly, well the Aussies need it or their revenues and profits will take further tumbles

I actually agree.

Channel 9 and Cricket Australia are hard to distinguish, and there is an element of truth to what you say.

Australia's wholesale changes were actually demanded by Channel 9: if they couldn't have a winning team they needed to have a "Young Guns" backstory.

Also, it was a not out decision over turned.
Pure incompetence.

I'm still buzzing about my roll call of celebrities today. Especially 88 year old Neil Harvey!

We should do a PakPassion face-to-face meet up one year at the Adelaide Test. It's awesome!

Do you think that the BCCI may have had Dar pulled because he is so incompetent and covered it by saying it was a security issue.

There is a very small spike as the ball passed the bat, just like the last LBW and Dar's incompetence comes to the fore again.

Aided by Dar's incompetence Australia have bowled SA out for 250 leaving them a chase of 126. Warner will be the key here get him early and its on.

Looks like SA were banking on Dar not knowing what he is doing and reviewed a clear not out.

126 is too little runs.

In life, 80% of people don't think and 19% accept what they are told.

People need to ask the questions, and hopefully the truth is innocent. I've never heard anyone query the 1999 World Cup semi-final even though Cronje was exposed within a year.

Questions are never a bad thing.

I query the Super Six match. There's no way Gibbs dropped Waugh without intending to.

South Africa 259/9d & 250
Australia 383 & 68/2 (20.0 ov)
Australia require another 59 runs with 8 wickets remaining

Australia shouldn't go the Pakistan way and choose a boring batsman like Renshaw, need to pick someone lik Hayden or Gilchrist to support Warner. Renshaw can even put the umpires to sleep

A bit ironic because Renshaw's stance is very similar to Hayden's open chested stance.

But Australia's biggest problem has been staying at the crease. I'm pretty sure they won't be complaining one bit.

Why?

I'm pretty sick of those 63 all outs and 47 all outs and getting collapses all the time.

Renshaw probably isn't up to it yet but he's been very impressive in his mental strength and composure to not throw away his innings after 100+ balls thinking that he needs urgent runs.

Good morale victory for AUS after losing the series.

Soon it's time to feast on the Pakistan bowling attack and pad up their home track batting averages.

What a great revival by the might OZZIES

34 runs of 137 balls, it would take him 3 sessions (one entire day) to score a ton

He is going to be a selfish player like Lara. Renshaw is a big bloke, probably 2 foot taller than Khwaja, he needs to join Symmo and Haydos in their fishing trips and work on making his guns bigger. Instead of tuk tuking he needs to boom boom

and 137 balls is probably the average length of our innings on green tops/dust bowls.

Australia needs an anchor. We have Warner for boom boom.

Hahahaha that's a good one, you are right Aussies already have the legend Warner, but wish there was a legendary keeper like Gilly, even a haddin will do at the moment.

AUSTRALIA quickly wrapped up the South African lower-order to clinch a seven-wicket win over the Standard Bank Proteas in the third Test match at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The Proteas thus won the series 2-1 with Vernon Philander being named Player of the Series. Usman Khawaja was named Man of the Match for his first innings century.

Philander restored his ranking as one of the best all-rounders in current Test match cricket, averaging 27 with the bat and 23 with the ball.

Stephen Cook managed to delay the Australian victory with his second career century at this level (104 off 240 balls, 8 fours) before he was the last man out, thus narrowly missing out on the honour of becoming the seventh South African opening batsman to carry his bat.

In the final analysis Australia’s greater experience in using the pink ball, particularly in the bowling department, proved to be decisive. They produced four of the five biggest partnerships in the match, including the only one of more than 100, and that was also a significant factor.

The Proteas will nevertheless look back on an excellent series in which they dominated the first two matches and didn’t give the Australians much of a look-in. This was a real team performance with five of the seven specialist batsmen scoring centuries in the series and the three frontline seamers all having excellent returns.

This effectively negated the absence of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn plus the loss of form of Hashim Amla.

The Proteas can take particular confidence from the form of some of the youngsters who had never played a Test in Australia before such as Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, who must have pushed Philander hard for man of the series, and Kagiso Rabada.

There has also been a good investment in the spin bowling opportunities given to Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, the two new caps in the squad.

Cronje was the skipper. I don't take either match at face value.

The thing with the semi-final is it genuinely seemed like an almighty choke from Donald. If South Africa were to throw the match, surely they could have done so without that late blitz from Klusner bringing them so close to winning. Suppose he had hit a shot that was misfielded and went for four? It came too close for comfort if your aim was to throw the game.

Also it would have been less suspicious, even seen as normal to have gone down to Warne's spell and lost by 80 odd runs given how good his bowling was on the day.

Renshaw is the Australian Hameed, who in turn is the next Alastair Cook. No way should he be denied an opportunity now. Maybe when he's 30 years old, has played thirty or forty test matches and has a poor record he can be discarded as a TTF, but he's only 20!
