Drop catches galore on day 1 in brisbane, how many times have visiting teams done this in Aus and been punished! Jacques got 3 lives and hussey has already had 1.

Prasana jaya`dene has been impressive behind the stumps. Was shocked to see S.L leaving malinga out!
 
Reception was pretty mixed, there was the odd no-ball shout from odd idiot in the crowd.

Murali took the 2nd over of Day 2 - as his name was announced, idiots in the crowd shouted 'Chucker'

Hussey and Clarke really did the hard work yesterday/ Both have SR's around 30. But now they are being rewardedfor it.
 
Murali back on - When he bowl there are still some noise from the crowd and I can only guess what it is. SL team seems to be handling it well

SL must be regretting to bowl first. I don't see much spin from Murali. There was some movement from fast bowlers but Malinga would probably have been better than Maharoof or Fernando

Clarke with a six and then a four which bounced just before the ropes over Murali's head.

I was 1 run off my prediction. Good to see those two wickets late in the day, I didn't see the match but Lee must be getting some late swing to induce those nicks to Gilly.

Shame Gilly didn't get to bat.

Not really. Sanath got a bad decision, but he was beaten by bounce. Van Dorten (is that his name) was deceived by a tricky delivery that went straight on (played a nothing shot, hung his bat out, looked really lazy).

Despite some good one-day form, Sri Lanka hasn't given any indication that they were any sort of match to Australia. They left out their best strike bowler, so their entire pace attack is held together by a medium pacer with good variations, and over the 2 test series Murali has played in Australia before this tour, he's averaged over 60 with the ball (Australia is a graveyard for touring finger spinners, and Murali is no exception).

Technically he isn't a finger spinner though.
 
Big test for Sangakarra and Jayawerdene this match. Hopefully they make a decent score first innings so SL avoids follow on or gets very close to it

I really need a question answered. If the ball is well outside the off-stump, and there's no chance the wicket is going to be hit, why do batsmen insist on hanging their bat out theire? It's just stupid.

I think batsmen really need to get into the habit of leaving more balls outside the off. If you notice, the Australian batsmen try and leave a lot of the balls outside the off-stump, instead of needlessly defending. Defending needlesly outside the off-stump just risks your wicket. It's a habit that's possible to break with a lot of hard work in the nets.

Australia being stingy. couple of fours saved right at the boundary where replays were checked, one by Symonds and one by Hussey. Batsmen probably ran 2-3 runs but players are also risking injury
 
It is a little strange that certain australian ;-) post more in Paksitan games or about Pakistani players

I missed part of Murali interview but he says going into politics is No No as you can get shot. They showed the young Murali too and the instance when he was being no balled. Didn't hear him say anything bad or being upset but was smiling and cheerful

just saw a clip that they will be showing a trip through India on cricket show this summer. I am guessing it will be when India comes over next month
 
Benaud is saying Parsana Jayawerdene should think himself as backup to Sangakara ....
I didn't understand this. Vandort looks more like a fill in for Sangakara as he doesn't wicketkeep in tests for now

I like this DirecTv coverage. Lawry says we will come back after the break and the video is still coming. No commercial yet during any break - drinks, lunch, tea and if nothing else it will show the ground - same in the SA-NZ test. if you are paying to watch it then there should be no comercials otherwise get the money from advertizers and very little from consumers

I believe SCG MacGill is struggling. Hogg would have done a lot better than him a lot of batsmen have difficulty reading Hogg.

I disagree with that. MacGill's had two catches dropped and a golden opportunity missed at bat-pad. A bowler can't do much if his fielders don't support him.
 
MacGill gets a wicket that's thoroughly deserved. Bowled without luck all day. Lee gets his third. SL 9 down for 198.

Marvan Atapattu launched an astonishing attack on the Sri Lanka selectors, calling them a set of muppets headed by a joker and blaming them for the lack of bench strength in the side. His statements came at the end of the third day of the first Test against Australia at the Gabba, with Sri Lanka fighting to stave off a heavy defeat.

"Sri Lanka cricket at this moment of time is not going in the direction it should be going, especially with a set of muppets headed by a joker," Atapattu said at the end-of-day press conference. "I don't give credit to the way they have handled selections.

"If they had handled selections properly we should have a good back-up team. For some reason we don't and at the age of 37-38 people have to come and play for Sri Lanka when it comes to tough tours like this. If selectors are there only for going on tours and getting perks it is a waste of time."

Atapattu had not been originally chosen for the tour and was only included after a request made by Sri Lanka's sports minister Gamini Lokuge. Sri Lanka's national selection committee comprises the chairman Ashantha de Mel along with Don Anurasiri, Ranjith Madurasinghe and Jayantha Seneviratne.

Atapattu is returning to Test cricket after nearly two years and international cricket after a dramatic six months, in which he spent the entire World Cup on the bench and then declined to play in a series against Bangaldesh. He top scored for Sri Lanka with a patient 51 in the first innings and stitched a 53-run opening partnership with Sanath Jayasuriya in the second after Sri Lanka were forced to follow on.

Atapattu also said people were trying to create an impression of disunity within the team. "We are a happy dressing room at the moment. A section of people has been trying to say that it is divided, but it is not so. We don't have problems inside the dressing room but people from outside are trying to create unpleasantness through the media and by statements made by ex-cricketers to displease us. I don't think they have succeeded," Atapattu, who turns 37 on November 20, said.

Commenting on the day's play Atapattu said: "We didn't do justice to our talents and the potential we had in the dressing room in the first innings. We got some good balls early in the innings but that's not a good enough excuse. It is much easier batting in the second innings.

"There is only the variable bounce that you have to worry about . We should be able to get a good partnership or two going tomorrow and hopefully be in a better position." Atapattu said facing Brett Lee was always a challenge for any batsman. "I really enjoy facing him," he said. "Each delivery is a different challenge that you have to face."

The more he bowled, the better he got. Only took 1 wicket, but had 2 catches dropped (one by Gilly and one by Clarke), And Jaques missed an opportunity at bat-pad.

Yeah, the armistice that signaled the end of WW1 was signed at 11am on the 11th of November, so they have a minute of silence at 11am in places like England, Australia etc
