Australia vs England | Semi Final 2, World Cup | Edgbaston | 11th July, 2019 | Australia innings

Time to bring Archer on. If these 2 can set it up for Stonis and Maxwell, Australia could get over 270 and they will be the favourites.

When Tendulkar was yesterday asked about the most impressive player of the tournament he said "Alex carey. but he is batting too low"

If you look at his first class and list A stats, you won't see much there but look at him bat. Shows that statistics are not everything!

Neither Australia nor INdia were preparing for 4 years to win a world cup.

Thing is, Australia always gets to their best just before WC. Happened in 2015 as well. Australia values WC more than India even, as Aus doesn't play many bilaterals (especially their main players)

Can remember posters saying they would not even qualify for the semis.
To be fair even I thought it.

I thought it will hurt the team’s morale if Warner and Smith come back to the side after playing no cricket for a year or so.

Lmao it will be interesting to see that posters excuse today if his team England loses today. :))

It will be an off day for England or the pitch wasn't fair.

Conveniently forgetting Warner and Finch having an off day. Also didn't know Australia were brought up on slow and low pitches if the pitch does end up like this.

Why can Australia adapt but so called best team cant?

Why do you think INdia doesn't value? 2015 semi finalist. 2019 semi finalist, 2011 winner. They reached CT final twice. India value all the tournaments. Australia values bliaterals so much. Steve waugh was chest thumping once after winning a ODI series despite losing a test series. He considered that was some sor tof victory. Aussies value every match. They just don't take T20 seriously.

Australia were always going to get to the semis. PP tries to be too smart at times.

You really didn't think they would beat Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh? Then not win at least one of ther other teams lol?

Smith and Williamson are probably the best batsmen to have if a team is facing a collapse.

Carey has been no doubt the best keeper batsman in this world cup.

Tim paines time is up. Carey will keep all 3 formats. We have seen an upcoming superstar in the form of a keeper batsmen after a long time

From the beginning even before world cup i backed Australia to win the world cup even with not so ideal team. Reason is their fighting spirit under pressure. Something other teams lack.

And Jadeja :) He scored a 56 against NZ in the warm up after collapse, now again 77 in the semi final

Why not play Moeen Ali as a specialist spinner in the final, if England wins? Adil has been quite ordinary. Moeen is a better batsman compared to Adil for sure.

Australia proved me wrong :)

Eh, I would argue Aus value T20s much more than ODIs. Big Bash dwarves ODIs in attendance unless it's India playing. Australia routinely rests their best players in ODIs. Neither Warner or Smith has even crossed 5k runs yet.

Australia used to value bilateral ODIs a lot before T20 leagues came. Now not so much. See the FTP, Aus will be playing more T20s than ODIs.

I said Aus values WC more than India is because that's the only thing they care about in ODIs, apparently. Australia was playing nobodies from 2016 to 2018 in ODIs, their W/L was worse than Sri Lanka or West Indies. Look at them now.

This is the time batting gets easier. They have weathered the storm. Now a competitive total like 280 is on the cards. Bet your bottom dollar Australia will defend every run like tigers.

Don't think I could see Australia ever collapsing like we did against West Indies or how India did in the champions trophy final.

It's the value of tough domestic system.

Like Moeen Ali, Rashid is also another liability in this England team but according to Bilal7 he deserves to be a WC winner :))

Every team cares about ODI world cup. India does too. They topped the table. They beat Australia. Australia has won several world cups because they were a clutch team and also a great team. Not because they "value world cup" more. Nobody will value World cup more than Bangladesh. Doesn't mean they will automatically win the world cup.

Australia had initial collapse quite a few times in WC, they always bounced back though. There's a reason they have more WC trophies than all other teams combined.

Australia is such a model for all the teams out there.. never give up attitude and the mental toughness they display is out of this world. Even at their worst, they still challenge the best if teams. Cricket is lucky to such a team!

india was a flawed team. So our exit was no surprise. if England exits today, all hell will break loose.

They were a flawed team through their own fault. They didnt bring the right players. Wanted 3D players instead when proper player have served them so well in the top 3 why not have proper 4 & 5 too.

Mark my words.. England will fall like 9 pins. We're in for one of those one sided semifinals. Kudos to Aussies!

What an useless bowler this Rashid is . I don't think he is the worst main spinner among all teams. Atleast others had odd good moments.

I am talking about comparative. Australia puts 100% of their resource grooming for WC is what I meant. While other teams spends substantial amount behind bilaterals. Basically for Australians, cricket usually means Ashes, the WC and Big Bash, while India and other teams care more about bilaterals and stuff.

Archer threw it away. Just when we thought Australia was cruising. Now Maxwell has to own the stage for next 20 overs.

50 for Steve Smith.

That thread needs bumping about Smith being finished.

As always OTT reactions after a few low scores. It's Steve Smith, he finds a way.

No they didn't groom anything for 2019. I backed them purely because of their inborn mental strength not because they are a great side. Smith had an iffy tournament. It was all about warner and Finch in this world cup. Then a dodgy middle order. Poor 4th and 5th bowling option. Australia even at their worst form was always going to get to semi final because others were woeful. Once you get to the semis it is a matter of having a couple of good days. Like NZ showed, OZ can also have a good day batting first.
