yes, he's very lucky he never had to play ambrose or walsh or any of the real merchants of pace.

hell, he couldn't even play simon jones or flintoff or properly.

Yes he is a total hack :D Are there any other Test openers who average as much as Hayden?

You can't expect anything more from a mentally weak player.

He really is a pathetic batsman fit only for 2 hour games.

A batsman's version of Tait, perhaps.

Based on Tait's one Test in Perth? Nice quick judgement there.

i dont get it, they hit guys like lee and hogg who are full time bowelrs. BUt for some reason they struggle aginst a fool like clarke.

Clarke has a Test bowling average of 20 - he's no hack part time bowler anymore than Sehwag is a hack off spinner.

VVS Laxman is trully special. Some of us have been a little slow to recognize how special he is. But great 50!!.

9 overs until the new ball....these two should try and bring up the 300 and then try and play through it and India will be well on top for the game...

Tendulkar is fast becoming one of my favorite batsman in the world. For a long time I thought he was overrated and a bit of a selfish player but he's proven me completely wrong with the 2007 he had and now his start in 2008. Its not just the runs he's scoring, its the way he's scoring them.. the aggressive and entertaining Tendulkar is back. I've been hooked on to his batting.

What an innings he played today, absolute joy to watch for me

Exactly Easa, I always thought before he was overrated but the way he performed in 2007 and the way he has started this year is amazing.

Tendulakar lost 2005 due to injuries and 2006 dues to Greg Crappels idiotic experiments

ROFL, and johnson has a batting average of 99, I guess aus have bradman batting at no.10 do they.

the kind of treatment the Aussie crowd is saving for SRT is touching....its really classy.

Bad time to lose a wicket before the new ball...if Australia can get 1 or 2 more here they are right back in the game and maybe even on top . You would think India want 370 min .

if aus get even one more, they ARE on top, no ifs and buts about it. The rest is the indian tail, which has crumbled the psat few times.

2nd time this series Laxman got out fending the ball.. I don’t get it.. why is he so worried about the ball hitting him ? It’s not a cobra for god’s sake ! Let it hit you man !

Now we’re screwed.. Who’s gonna get us to 500 ???

India setting themselves a good platform here on day 1.

Sachin, veeru and lax all firing and this was the case in the last series. Indias big guns firing on all cylinders.

Ouch! Poor timing from India again…

If we had ended the day 4 down for 330+, the day would have clearly belonged to us, but sadly, that did not happen.

I only hope Dhoni can give the sublime Sachin some much needed support in a big partnership.

But I think it was more of a surprise for laxman. The ball just did not bounce enough and i would not blame it too much on lax. I think it was a good ball by lee, though not sure if he disguised it to bowl it with less of a bounce.

Bad timing though. the new ball is due in 6 overs and dhoni will be susceptible. Hope we dont lose any more wickets.

Dhoni 3 of 29 balls.. cant face a single ball outside India and he pushes the senior outside the team.

This tribal guy should first be kicked out

Lee to Tendulkar, FOUR, there's that shot from Perth again, Tendulkar stands up on his toes on the back foot and chips a short ball from Lee over the slips for four

huh? Which senior did he push out?

Terrible over rate by Ponting and his team. They are almost 10 overs behind at the scheduled close of play. I smell a ban coming his way.

Won't happen. He'll bowl his part-timers non-stop if he has to.

300-odd on the 1st day is still good though. The OZ would be looking to restrict India to below 400, and at this rate it looks like India will make 400 at least by day 2 sometime.

Was just pointing out his average since you said he was a fool bowler. India certainly find him harder to hit than Hogg.

Gilchrist is standing upto the stumps to Clark.

This is how the Aussies got Sachin at Sydney. I hope he doesn’t succumb!

He is not bowling the part timers OG - does the over rate penalty apply for each day's play or at the conclusion of the match? ie the total over rate

he is nothing more than a part time bowler.

And ODI and tests are two different things. DHoni is much better at ODI's tan tests. Also he's the captain, lol he isnt going to drop himself to keep ***** in team.

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 447 runs in this series, which is a record for him. His earlier record was in the home series against Australia in 1997-98, when he scored 446 runs in five innings.

nothing personal mate, but i predicted yuvraj's demise 3 years ago.

and i can say the same - from the safety of my 22-year-old rusty armchair, naturally -- about Taity.

just doesnt have any variety to trouble anyone (bar Kiwis) on a good deck.

speaking of averages, how many bowlers average less than 25 today?

which is why you should subtract 7 or 8 runs from Haydo's average for a truer measure of his claims to the hall of fame.

I never thought that way, Umair. Mind you, he is my alltime favourite player. The only problem I have is Indians referring him as a God.

Just as a side note, Dhoni was dropped on three by Hayden, I hope he can make most of it :D .

So therefore - Tendulkar = Test average 47 yes?

Hayden - Test average 45 as an opener.

Hussey - average still 70 odd :D

Hmmm - have you ever seen him bowl well? As opposed to bowling crap at the WACA. He swings it, seams it, reverse swings it - what else do you want him to do? Bowl legspin?

Considering Australia is full of good decks (and decent batsman not Kiwis) and Tait dominates the domestic scene not sure how you make that judgement. If it's gut feel then fine, but otherwise..... :20:

Hoping That Sort Of Batting By Our Batsmen As Well When Aussies Come To Pakistan Later This Year

3 huge cheers for Sach!

We need 450 by hook or by crook. Dhoni should have by now got the hang of Aussie pitches and can surely make a 50. Tendlya needs to make a double. It's a tradition for one batsman to make a 200 here, so if he makes it then it means Hayden won't make it. :D

Day 1 honours go to india and if they get up to 400 they will be in box seat, i can see pitch breaking up on day 4/5 and if aussies are batting last they wont want to be chasing to many!

India is not in very good position. 309 for 5 can become 330 all out any time. Day slightly in favor of Australia.

Dhoni is not doing well ,so the morning session 2nd day can go either way . I am happy with the way we batted the first day .

Dravid continues to be in the negative mode . He was so defensive ,at the same time so edgy as well.

The last time two teams played here Aussies were 400/5 at close of day 1 and lost!

Last year Eng were 266/3 at close day 1 and ended up scoring 500 and losing!

Intresting that two teams have scored 500+ in a test here and lost!

England team was over-confident. They should have pushed for 700 runs and batted Australia out. It was a ridiculous declaration at 551 for 6on pitches like Adelaide. When Australia was all out for 556 against India, ponting regretted Australia could not go beyond 600 runs. They know deep down what is a good score here.

this pitch is certainly not as flat as its made out to be ......425 shud be minimum though ....am quite confident we can go well beyond that ..kumble & bajji are no mug with bats !

India need 600. Hopefully Tendulkar and Dhoni make a good partnership and the lower order contributes.

well jusarrived, i wonder what you will say about Tendulkar now?

fantastic days play and well done that man. That makes 80 international centuries and hopefullt it's a match winning one.

Where are Monsee, Farhad, Zushy, Game and the haters?

the only thing is tomorrow I hope dhoni doesn't go out there and attempt to make up for his strike rate RIGHT away. Play 15 balls and then start going after it.

One more century and Sachin will have 40 in both forms of the game. He has 40 in both when no batsman is even close to making 40 in one form.

Amazing.

You might be right but 400 is still the par score here.

England scored 550 and still lost in this very pitch. May want to think about the box seat with a 400 total. Back seat may be!!

England had junk bowlers.. that also you should see. Even Australia lost after making 556 runs. But that should not be considered as a trend.

Australia lost thanks to the pace and swing of the deadly Agit Agarkar :D

Australia lost because they lost wickets in the second innings due to aggresive batting trying to force a win.

One thing everyone should learn from this series, don't jump the gun too soon.. more or less it came back to haunt you. Let both teams complete the innings. This series is full of surprises.

Channel 9 coverage has started for Day 2

Average 1st innings score in last 10 matches is 461
