Let me clarify what I said. I said it was understandable that Rauf would give that out. I said that generally, the rule in Perth is that if you are hit over the knee you are not out. And I said that when you stride forward out of the crease its generally another not out.
But Rauf has never refereed in Perth before, and likely misjudged the bounce. With the benefit of replays and hindsight it's clear to see that it was bouncing over the stumps and Rauf will look back at that replay and say that maybe he would have gone the other way of he had a chance to do it again. But at the time it was a 50-50 call that could have gone either way - certainly not a howler. You just have to suck those up if you get them, unfortunately. And in any case, Rauf had a good think about it - about 3 seconds - before he made his decision.
