play for the team thats it. play to win

nitish is a great talent. but focus on the game. play to win

Amazing knock.

What a Player Nitish is. The calmness, the defense, the aggression, the judgement of length….

Reddy is a terrific batsman. What a find for India.

He can play as pure batter just like smith ( He started his career as bowling allrounder )

In not comparing reddy to smith so people can hold on .

I actually had the same thought cross my mind.

Smith is of course a legend of the game and that's a different level but Reddy can take inspiration too. He should be given the chance up the order to see how he does.

He's so young they can mold his game further.

Rain has forced an early stump.

Day 3: Stumps - India trail by 116 runs

AUS 474
IND 358/9 (116) CRR: 3.09

Your prediction changes like weather changes at gabba test
I would say aus will score quickly and get to 250. Set us around 300 to 350 target. India may or may not draw/chase. Pant factor is there. He can't keep failing consistently. He is due a big one.

Remarkable Reddy century gives India hope in Boxing Day Test

Two of the youngest members of India's touring party put on a batting clinic as the visitors worked their way back into the match on the third day in Melbourne.

A maiden Test century from Nitish Kumar Reddy and an equally important half-century by Washington Sundar has brought new life into the Boxing Day Test as India fought back hard against Australia on the third day of an enthralling contest in Melbourne.

Reddy batted superbly to reach 102* as poor light and rain at the MCG saw an early stumps drawn with India at 358/9 and still trailing by 116 runs in response to Australia's 474.

It looked like Reddy was going to cruise to his century when Sundar was alongside him, but his dismissal and the loss of Jasprit Bumrah for a duck saw Mohammed Siraj (2*) come to the crease with his partner still one short of his first Test century.

But Siraj survived a few nervy deliveries from Australian captain Pat Cummins (3/86) and Reddy found the boundary in the ensuing over to bring up three figures and further reduce India's deficit.

Reddy's innings gives hope to India with two days remaining in the crucial ICC World Test Championship contest. All result results are still possible as the two combatants chase a spot at next year's one-off Final at Lord's.

Reddy and Sundar batted sensibly to combine for a partnership of 127 as Australia's bowlers toiled hard for little reward on a cooler day in Melbourne.

Only four wickets fell on a day that belonged to Reddy and India, with Rishabh Pant (28) and Ravindra Jadeja (17) dismissed during the morning session as Australia went in search of breakthroughs.

Reddy and Sundar steadied the ship to give India some hope, with the Test and series still up for grabs heading into the final two days in Melbourne.

On top of bragging rights for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the series locked at 1-1, the two teams are also in the race for spots in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's in June 2025.

Australia sit in second (58.89% of possible points) and India in third (55.88% of possible points), with table-toppers South Africa (63.33%) currently taking on Pakistan in Centurion.

Boland optimistic on Australia's chances of winning Boxing Day Test

The Australia quick thinks his team is well placed for victory in Melbourne and expects the entire bowling group will need to play a role in achieving this.

Australia fast bowler Scott Boland believes his team are still well placed for victory with two days remaining in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The Aussies managed to pick up just four India wickets on a rain-affected day at the MCG on Saturday, but still enter the backend of the Test with a lead of 116 and are in the box seat to open up a 2-1 series lead.

Australia's first task when play resumes on Sunday will be to get India's final wicket and it could prove difficult given Indian hero Nitesh Kumar Reddy is still unbeaten on 105 after his maiden Test century on the third day of the crucial ICC World Test Championship contest.

Quick runs will then be on the agenda for the hosts, ahead of a potential thrilling final day at the MCG that will have major ramifications on which team reaches next year's World Test Championship Final.

"We're leading by 115 (116) runs, so we are in a pretty strong position," Boland said after poor light and some rain saw an early stumps called on Saturday.

"Obviously it could have been better, but I think that's how Test match cricket ebbs and flows.

"Hopefully tomorrow morning we get that first wicket and then put on a really nice lead and see how the game plays after that."

Boland has managed three wickets for Australia in India's first innings, with the burly right-armer arguably the pick of the home side's bowlers so far alongside skipper Pat Cummins (3/86) and spinner Nathan Lyon (2/88).

In the past Lyon has been Australia's major weapon on the final day of a Test when quick wickets are required, but Boland has played at the MCG more than anyone else in the Australian side and is expecting the Melbourne pitch to play slightly different.

"I'm not too sure if it's going to spin too much more," Boland suggested.

"There's a decent amount of grass on there (the pitch), so I'm definitely hoping it spins a lot more.

"Hopefully there'll be some variable bounce as Test match wickets get a bit more tired and that would be ideal for us as a bowling group."

Sundar breaks down India's game plan after Day 3 turnaround in Melbourne

The all-rounder’s vital 127-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy late on the third day of the Boxing Day Test has breathed a new life into the game.

Having removed half of the Indian batting on the second, Australia had a foot in the door when they clinched the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday.

However, a commanding eighth-wicket partnership between Washington Sundar (50) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (105*) helped the visitors avoid follow-on and close distance with Australia’s 474 in the first innings.

With two days left to play, Sundar reckons, India have given themselves a strong chance to not just avoid a defeat, but script a win.

“I still feel there's something for the bowlers in this wicket,” Sundar told reporters after Stumps on Day 3.

“It has been overcast for most of the game until now. If we can bowl in the right areas, if we can take our chances, I'm sure we should be able to get them for 150 and Day 5 will be about (that) exactly.”

Sundar accompanied Reddy in the middle when India were seven wickets down at the score of 221. He went on to score his third Test fifty, second in Australia.

Sundar, who had featured in India’s win in Perth, was added to the lineup ahead of India’s top-order batter Shubman Gill. Opening up on his knock, the 25-year-old credited the Indian think tank for putting faith in him.

“Gauti bhai and all the support staff kept believing in me, kept telling me what I was capable of, especially at this level, in this format. That really means a lot to me. Makes me believe that I can do special things for the Indian team.

“It would've been even better if I had gone on to get some more runs and hadn't lost my wicket but I think we're in a good position today.”

Holding fort on the other end, Reddy piled on his maiden Test ton, despite the loss of Sundar’s wicket in the closing stages of the game.

Sundar lauded Reddy’s unforgettable ton and shared how his days with the youngster during the IPL gave glimpses of a special talent in the making.

“He's mentally very very strong. I've known him for quite a few years. The way he went about his business today was amazing.

“He picked those phases in the game where he thought we'd get a few boundaries in. He was also aware that we needed to see through a few balls as well, when the situation got a little challenging for us. An unbelievable hundred, it will be talked about for a very very long time.

“One thing about Nitish, no matter what he's doing - on the field, off it - he's going to give his 120 percent. That's his approach to life, not just cricket.

“Obviously, I saw him quite closely during the IPL as well, his work ethics, the things that he would do around games was something very pleasing for all of us. We knew something special was coming around the corner.”
