Day 3: Australia trail by 386 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the innings

I don't think so. They will do really good if they can add 100 runs more though. Question will be if India going to bat again or look to finish things off? This is 4th day now.

Aus to get a draw here due to rain and light situation.

Let's say India wrap up Aussies in the next 5-10 over. What'd they do then? Will they enforce follow on?

Rain and overhead condition might spice up the pitch. Don’t want to see an Indian second innings collapse

There is rain tomorrow as well. It's likely to be a draw.

Will end in draw by the look of it. Intermittent rain is worse than constant rain and bright day afterwards.

Our special needs kaptaan will enforce follow on if possible.

He has two genuine spinners at his disposal who can bowl non stop with pacers coming in for reverse swing and new ball bowling. But this looks like draw with help from weather to me.

only insane captain wont enforce follow on in this rain hit test match. your bowlers had enough rest entire session for today. now get backto business asap and get the 14 remaining wickets. Get things done asap.

Bumrah "spinner" bowling at 148.8 while our phast bowlers like amir go at 128.8 :vk2

93.3 0 Bumrah to Hazlewood, no run, 148.8 kph this one, fuller on the stumps, Hazlewood us somehow surviving, puts his bat in front

Yeah... he just skips and hops to the crease and delivers...

But Bumrah has struggled on this flat wicket. First flat wicket I have seen him bowling on.

He has bowled with 145+ so consistently in this series. Extra speed makes a huge difference if bowler has some control.

Even in this hopeless situation Starc and Hazel are making Indians work for the last wicket.

Australia would hav ben all out if Vihari had caught a simple catch (92.4 overs 265-9) and Kuldeep would have bagged a 5 wicket haul.

Since then Aussies have batted 11 more overs and have added 34 runs.

Atleast 2 cricketers on the field are not thinking nice things about Vihari right now :kp

They should definitely enforce the follow on. I think Australia will fold for around 200.

Indian bowlers had plenty of rest last evening today morning. So there should not be any issue coming out and bowling again.

3.15pm Took around an hour and a half for India to wrap up the last four wickets after weather allowed play on day four. India have enforced the follow-on. Australia are still trailing by 322.

Cricinfo.

Aus can draw this, just need to bat time here. 100 overs here with some more rain predicted.

125 overs left for Aussies to draw or force a result. With rains predicted, an Australian win is nearly impossible, leaving Aussie batsmen with only one target.

Absolute Defense!

This is the first time since '05 Australia are following on.

Bad light taking out more overs here. Unless Aus does something stupid, it should be a draw.

Bad light, tea time declared. and a good chance we wont see any more cricket today

And the first time in 30 years that they're following on at home.
That's majorly due to the fact that Australia have been so dominanting at home but also due to the teams these days being so reluctant to enforce follow on.

Absolute defense can go really wrong. If they get into their shell, they lost their wicket.

Can Australia without their batting leaders draw this? I think the rain is only fair as Australia can now compete as they don't have the services of Smith, Warner, and Bancroft here.

Bad light stops play. Come on I wanted it to be 3-1 :/
We have lost around 4 sessions already due to rain in this test match. Aussies would be lucky to escape with a draw.

Wonder if we have it in us to take Aus out on 5th day, still a lot of total.

IT is not like it is raining. THey have lights on. India can use spinners if wanted. Why are they not playing?

What a farce !!! This is why test cricket is dying and why our sport can never be accepted globally.

Stop bringing Pakistan into this thread - concentrate on India Australia.

Well done Harris on getting hit on the head. Was clearly a mis-judgement on his part, but the umpires assumed it's light. Cricket is a funny old game.

LOL apparently the SCG spectators turned on the lights on their mobile phones beaming it out into the middle, they are justifiably angry. Why do umpires want to take centre stage and deny the people play? Hasn't rained for a long time, floodlights are available, no rain forecast, just a cloud cover. This is a mockery of test cricket.

Anyways Indians should feel actually happy and should come fresh tomorrow with full intensity to bowl out Australia!

Play has been called off for the day. There goes our chances of taking a 3-1 lead.

Play called off for the day, well done to the officialdom :14:. Driving a proverbial dagger into the heart of the sport to satiate their inflated egos. Hope at least the fans who turned up today get full compensation.

Apparently In the case of red ball, the artificial light can only assist the natural light and not overpower it. Something to do with the visibility problems since a red ball is difficult to sight under flood lights.

The umpires doing their best to ensure Australia gets away with a draw here. Took away 30 overs of play today.

Forecast for tomorrow is same as today. Atleast that is what i read somewhere

I understand that but I have seen play continue with much worse natural light. The India-England Lord's test earlier this year was played under much darker conditions. These decisions depend on the on-field umpires involved, there is no consistency. Right from yesterday evening the umpires have been very enthusiastic to get off the field, that ball that hit Harris had nothing to do with the light or pitch. It was poor technique and similar to how Elgar got hit in the Johannesburg test, that too prompted a similar farce.

I agree with that. Poor judgement call from the umpires and people wonder why test cricket is losing fans.

It will be a draw unfortunately. But nevertheless, great cricket from India. Would have loved if it was 3-1 but still 2-1 will be excellent as well.

Great show by Indian team as it clearly dominated this test match . Kuldeep taking a 5er, Australia asked to follow on at home first time since last 30 years . India needs 10 more wickets and they have 128 overs in which to do it.. Kuldeep , Bumrah, Jadeja are the key

They have a maximum of 98 overs. It will be more like 60 considering the rain.
