There's such a short around from the 3rd Test. India's bowlers will be tired as they bowled more recently in the 3rd match as they were defending a score, so if Australia bat first they will have to take advantage of that

If bold happens, I will give 75-25 advantage Aus.

R Ashwin fails fitness test, out of SCG Test

India will be without R Ashwin for the fourth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground after it was confirmed Wednesday that the offspinner is not fully fit.

Ashwin, who missed the second and third Tests on account of an abdominal strain, failed a fitness test at the SCG and will not be considered for selection, Virat Kohli told reporters.

“It’s unfortunate that he’s had two niggles that are quite similar in the last couple of away tours,” said Kohli said. “It’s something he will focus on to correct. The physio and trainer have spoken to him about what he has to do. He’s very important in Test cricket, he’s a vital part of the team. We need him to be 100 per cent fit. He’s very disappointed he hasn’t recovered in time.”

Ravindra Jadeja played the third Test at the MCG where he took five wickets. He looks set to retain his place on an SCG pitch that is expected to take turn, with Kohli adding that Hanuma Vihari‘s part-time spin is an asset.

“The Ashwin factor, it does make you alter your plans a little bit. But Vihari was bowling beautiful whenever he got the ball,” Kohli said. ”Vihari has looked like picking up a wicket every time he comes on to bowl. We are looking at him as a solid bowling option now, especially in this Test match.”

This is now the second straight overseas Test series in which Ashwin has not played each match.

Personally India should be rolling the dice with ashwin here, a semi fit ashwin will still be a better batsman and bowler than pandya.

Aussies are under pressure. Best chance for India to win a series down under. This is India’s game to lose.

From latest news, it seems Ashwin and Rahul are back. Ishant out with Umesh replacing him in the squad. Vihari back to Number 6.Looks like pressure is taking its toll already.

Only Ishant seems to be the big loss. Why is ishant out?

Captain Clueless strikes again, umesh yadav should not be ever be playing ahead of bhuvi. Also if rahul plays this match ahead of ashwin at 6 then India deserve to lose this.

if ashwin isnt fit,why should he play?.Even a fully fit ashwin struggles in aus let alone an unfit one.

Depends on how fit he is, 80% fit ashwin will be a better a player than a 100% fit rahul. They will both score the same 25-30 runs (if we are lucky in rahul's case) and ashwin will bowl 15-20 overs at a very economical rate, we are really going to need that given spray gun yadav and his 4 rpo economy is coming back.

Also it was ashwin bowling 87 overs at less than 2 an over while picking up best aussie batsmen in both innings that helped us win the first test.

Ishant injured , Rohit unavailable , addition to 13 : Rahul , Kuldeep & Umesh .
Ashwin though in 13 unlikely to be fit & no Pandya .

If Sydney pitch assists spin,

Mayank
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Vihari
Pant
Jadeja
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Shami

So India will field KL and Umesh. We are losing badly.

Dont think we will have Ashwin playing. Its really between Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav, depending on the pitch. I do hope the pitch offers some support to spin so that we could play Kuldeep. But not very good news first up.

I would like to see Kuldeep over Umesh too. However, Kuldeep is as risky a proposition in my opinion. He has little international experience and on his off days he offers no control. He's also pretty much useless with the bat although I do see potential.

With the bat, Kuldeep is quite decent in the long format. He averages 24 in first class with 1 century and 6 50s in 38 innings. So, as long as one proper batsman is in, he can hang around and put up 30-40 run partnerships. But, I agree, he is inexperienced playing abroad and should be playing tests in Indian regularly.

Ishant and Ashwin being unfit is a big blow. Wonder why did they not consider Bhuvi for Umesh. The guy can bat and bowl tight spells.

KL Rahul is one lucky fellow. Gets another opportunity to waste.

I was one of his biggest fans after hundred on his debut series and then he scored those clutch 50s against Aus in 2017. Really hoped that this would be his year. But, alas!

Just now read a very interesting stat . Sydney is the least spin friendly Test venue in Australia in last decade with spinners averaging slightly over 51 per wicket here .
After this , i am inclined to believe Umesh comes in for Ishant unless the current pitch is extra dry & devoid of grass . Wonder why is Bhuvi not being considered at all ?

Bhuvi's lack of pace may not allow him to control run flow in Australia. We saw what happened to Pakistani bowlers last Ozzie tour - getting smashed around the park. Also, can't take him in the side for his batting, if he's not expected to do his primary job well. He isn't the fittest either. Yadav can survive a test match.

Agree with the Kuldeep part. Should definitely play more tests in India. Risky to expose him on Australian wickets with very few tests under his belt. He can still throw a surprise as he's someone who can run through a side. I don't expect much from Umesh. Hence would prefer the former over him.

How is Umesh Yadav better than Bhuvi Kumar? Atleast, the latter can contribute with the bat too. 3+1 combination with Umesh will be a disaster and playing 2 spinners will be a defensive move. Either way, we are stuffed.

Instead of playing Umesh, we should play Pandya.

Same batting in top 5. + Hardik+ Pant+ Jadeja+ Kuldeep+ Shami+ Bumrah.

How does Umesh get another look in? Can’t understand the brain dead selection procedure with the team

umesh = ishant of 3 years ago - totally directionless.
he is useful only as a stock bowler and if everyone is injured and team has to play some weak rivals.

The SCG Pitch - looks to lean towards the seamers initially before flattening out. 3 + 1 spinner looks more likely.

Australia vs India at the SCG: Curator Justin Groves expects something for everyone in pitch

Talk of the SCG wicket being more spin-friendly than ever before has been tossed out by curator Justin Groves, who is predicting fast bowlers will play a big part in the Sydney Test.

Groves revealed on Wednesday his wicket for the fourth and final Test between Australia and India. The 22 yard strip – like Melbourne and Perth – has a healthy green tinge on the Test’s eve.

That has Groves confident that there will be enough on offer on days one and two for each side’s star quicks, before the likes of Nathan Lyon can capitalise on a drying wicket in the latter stages, as per most SCG tests.

“I’m very happy with the pitch at this stage … It’s going to do what the SCG traditionally does so we’re really happy with it,” Groves told reporters a day out from the Test. “It’s going to play very similar to other years.

“What we generally have is a bit of a green tinge on days one and two favouring the batsmen a little bit. Some good early bowling with the new ball before turning late in the game and getting a bit more unpredictable as the game wears on through the five days.”

With Sydney experiencing a run of warm days, the pitch was rumoured to be drier than other years and therefore extra conducive to spin.

But Groves said the wicket has in fact retained plenty moisture, which he expects to last through much of the Test.

“We’ve got our moisture content pretty good for what we’re trying to achieve here, so generally late in the game it does turn here at the SCG,” he said.

“Mother nature plays a big part in what we are doing here, and we do have some hot days coming up. So we’ve got enough moisture in the pitch to make it last the five days and produce an even contest.”

India will still be without key spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked up an abdominal strain after the first Test in Adelaide.

Skipper Virat Kohli said on Wednesday that he is confident in the spin bowling of allrounder Hanuma Vihari who has picked up much of the injured bowler’s slack.

“It is obviously a disappointment for us a team and him (Ashwin) personally, but if you look at the way Vihari has bowled he’s looked like picking up a wicket whenever he comes to bowl,” Kohli said.

“He’s pitching the ball in the right areas so we are looking to him as a solid bowling option right now, especially in this Test match because he’s got pace on the ball, he puts in the effort, and he’s economical which is all you need from a guy who is coming in to bowl 10 to 12 overs a day.”

With many Indian players missing, Aus can come hard and make it 2-2.

Weird to see no Bhuvi. Unless he is still injured? Umesh was poor in the second test and he could leak some serious runs if played again.

Got a feeling that if KLRahul is selected, his customary last match of series century will be scored by him.
Only this time it may actually prove in a useful cause .

He got a hundred in Australia last time in Sydney only.

Australia can maximum draw this. I do not see anyway how Aussies can win this.

Win the toss bat first and score 400. Their bowlers inc Lyon will do the rest.

Whoever wins the toss is strong favourite to win match, draws are a rarity these days on most surfaces.
