Match 4, T20I tri-series
Thursday, 5 July, 09:00 BST, 10:00 local

Pakistan are looking to regain ground on Australia in their second encounter of the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe.

Both sides are guaranteed their spot in Sunday’s final after Pakistan consigned the hosts Zimbabwe to a third straight defeat on Wednesday. But Pakistan need a strong performance if they are to seriously challenge Australia, who have been in scintillating form since arriving in Africa.

The first meeting between the sides yielded a nine-wicket win for Aaron Finch’s team, who won with 11.1 overs to spare after Billy Stanlake’s 4/8 helped restrict Pakistan to just 116.

Captain Finch hit a 33-ball 68* in that chase, but that was just a warm-up for what was to come the following day, when the brutal right-hander made a record 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe.

There were pleasing contributions from Pakistan’s batsmen in their Wednesday outing – 47 for Fakhar Zaman, 44 for Hussain Talat and an unbeaten 38 for skipper Sarfraz Ahmed – but they must find away of surviving and scoring quickly off the tall, pacey Stanlake if they are to compete with the Aussies.

Key players

Billy Stanlake (Australia): Perhaps unusual not to opt for Finch given his form but it’s the aggressive Billy Stanlake who won the game for the Aussies in the teams’ last meeting. By ripping out the top order and going at just two an over in the Powerplay he finished the match almost before it was started.

Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan): Left-hand opener Fakhar Zaman has made runs in both matches against Zimbabwe, now it’s time for him to transfer that form to Australia’s attack. He is capable against top opposition – who could forget his performance in the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy? – and Pakistan are relying on him to get them off to a positive start.

Squads

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), Alex Carey (wk), Ashton Agar, Travis Head, Nic Maddinson, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, D’Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Andrew Tye, Jack Wildermuth

Pakistan: Sarfraz Ahmed (c, wk), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Sahibzada Farhan

Justcrazy Bro it's more like 200 plus, they will chase 160 in 15 overs,,, Unless our bowlers pull up something special.

Pakistan should try out the bench strength now that they have qualified for the final.

Shahibzada Farhan would have been a better choice than Haris Sohail in t20s

Whacked away again by Fakhar for another four off Stanlake.

3 consecutive boundaries now.

Fakhar has improved a lot over the last year. Struggled against the pace and bounce of Morkel when he made his ODI debut but is slapping Stanlake around comfortably here.

Looks like super flat pitch. Anything under 220 Australia will win this match with ease

Talat struggles against extra pace. Hopefully he improves with experience. Hardly any express pacers in Pakistan domestic so this is something new for him.

Wanna see some fireworks from Asif Ali today. Don't really care about anything else.

Australia not testing their bench strength in a dead rubber which shows how badly they need to win and get some confidence. And people were saying no-one bar Pakistan was taking this seriously...

Looks like Hafeez is coming back for Final match. Clever strategy by management.

Talat is even worse than Shehzad. Scored 10 of 12. Really pathetic!!!!

He always looks off balance while playing his shots. His get out of jail shots are guide down to third man and a little nudge on the leg side.

Needs to improve his balance & get more shots in his book. Lacking confidence atm

Farhan should have been tested before final and played in final .now looks like Hafeez will play

These newbies like Shadab, Talat, Hasan all seem to like wearing gold and silver chains sticking out of their kit etc;

Whats wrong with Talat?

Doesn't look like the player that we saw in the PSL.

Woefully out of form or just struggling?

Talat is trying to find form, still, remember him hitting some crisp boundaries in the PSL

THAT'S it Hussain Talat - stable base, got a big swing in and kept head still.

But now gets out which is disappointing.

Hussain Talat is gone, that was stupid shot to play, Should have played with a straight bat.

The main problem with talat is that he loses his shape while hitting hence losing his shape. He also needs to work on his balance which will make it easier to play his shots.

Onto the roof - excellent from Fakhar Zaman. A treat to watch when timing his shots and cleanly hitting the boundaries.

Not really impressed with Talat's batting. Very tailender type player. No power into his shots at all. Need some clean hitters or a better hitter in T20Is. Haris and Talat should not be playing the T20Is.

The only exciting player in our top order, love his self-less approach

Why play in empty grounds when they can be playing in jam packed Pakistan stadiums. How is Zimbabwe safer than Pakistan. Something is seriously wrong here.
