He looks very good but doesn't seem to have much time while playing in offside compared to leg side.

It looks like after every youngster gets a fifty or a couple of wickets they are hailed as "the next" whatever...come on people setting your expectations so high in other people is why you will be disappointed
It's his technique that separates him from the others who have been hyped. Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, and Ahmed Shahzad are mindless at the crease. You can feel it and their techniques are loose even when firing and being 'in form'.
In comparison, he's compact and assured at the crease. Almost un-Pakistani you could say.
Undoubtedly, it's far too early for wild claims about greatness. BUT, he is a fantastic prospect.
exactly!Sorry Super Stars re made by winning not by playing useless innings that count for nothing but personal gain. Unfortunately we are full of these stars at the moment and less team spirit.

batting is more a mental game then technique. You can have an exceptionally great technique but if you have weak nerves then you are done
you can have an average technique but if you are mentally very strong, you would score lots of runs......especially when pressure is on

Babar Azam looks mentally near to strong... Not bad...
what special innings
played a stupid shot and got out
could not clear boundary on such short ground
even if he is as good as Muhammad Yousuf was, that would be great

One step at a time.
Babar Azam is definitely not a super star. Anyone who claims as such is crazy.
He's a good prospect especially for a team like ours where every second batsman is a hack.
He looked good but seems to lack another gear.
Quality batsmen are able to up the tempo once they're set.
He's honestly not strong enough to take it up the notch when they need him too.
he lost it...........when it really mattered...scored a fifty in a losing cause
btw
are you casablanca and gone with the wind fan??

the kid was just playing his 9th match.
that's fine. but he's not particularly strong, and while you don't need to slog, he's not yet at the point where he has that kind of strength to really take over a match.
obviously, it's rare that you take over the match when you have just played nine matches ---- I am hopeful that he will improve with the passage of time.
Batted well today, just needs to put his head down and continue working.
Joe Root and Ajinkya Rahane are just as slim.my point is he might be a little TOO slim. can be worked on.
We haven't learned a thing or 2 from hyping up players before they perform consistently. People said the same about Maqsood, Jamshed, Fawad, Shehzad and look at them now.
lol are you serious? Have you seen bat in Tests before? Or play a T20 before? He has a better SR than Guptill and Taylor in T20's.Like Kane Williamson?
There was one game turning moment and that was when Henry and Mitch got going. He was very good today, but I was very disappointed with the way he got out. That turned the game IMO. InshaAllah he'll learn from this.
Amazing talent this kid. Should be a top 3 bat in the world very soon.
)Just like Umar Akmal)
Umar is on the top already with shezad being a close second.
Is this Professor in your DP??Another one of those hype threads.
Needs a lot of work but already better than almost every Batman in the odi team which says more about our cricket team than Babar azam himself.
He's not the batsman we deserve but the one we need right now.

After that, not once did I think we were going to lose.
The RRR was around the 7's 25 overs out, no way Pakistan chase that without a Afridi special.
I missed his celebration after his half-century. Did he take his helmet off, performed multiple sajdas and danced around the ground or did it normally like batsmen from other teams?
I really hope it's the latter.
You really are so mean... Have to bring non cricket related things in every thread!

I think it gives a good insight into the mentality of the players. Plenty of our batsmen celebrated mini milestones like half-centuries as if they have done something special, and that is why they fail to score big.
The desire to get big runs is simply not there, the motivation drops after 50 runs.
I hope Babar proves to be different. Since MoYo, we haven't had a middle-order batsman who has been a consistent century maker. It will make a big difference to our ODI batting if someone like Babar comes in at number 4 and scores hundreds regularly.

He just put his bat up, two seconds, no sajda.
Also, you have to understand that it has a lot to do with the education levels and what they have been exposed to as well. You are shaped by your culture.
I am not saying that I condone it, but I understand it as well.
Fine knock by him today, this kid will become better and better with time.
He doesn't do it after 50, have seen it few times. If you're really following him then you should've observed too.
Don't take offense. Scoring a fifty vs Zimbabwe or in the UAE is different to scoring one in NZ. I'm happy that he didn't show too much excitement and should be disappointed that he threw it away and didn't take the team home.
It's shame really, so much weight on his shoulders...I feel for the kid. He's going to be carrying this hopeless bunch for a while..

Well Haris Sohail was doing it before him. It would be interesting when Sohail returns. We will have two grafters at number 3 and 4 able to play at a SR of 75-80 and then we can play tullay-baaz around them to balance the equation.
At present we look like a fish out of water.

What is the fuss about Haris Sohail? No hundreds in List A cricket. I honestly think he is being hyped up like majority of other batsmen.
One must wonder though with Amir having come back, is this a golden era for both the batting and the bowling? Great times ahead for a Pakistani fan.
