As per a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board, Inzamam has given his consent to becoming a paid chief selector again after he held the position between 2016 and 2019.

==

So why was he let go in the first place? What has he done since then that makes him eligible for the same role again?

Misbah recommended his name.

He was not a bad selector to be fair, the odi team that is playing was selecte by him

From the PCB

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq has been appointed national men's chief selector.

Anyone pre-Misbah playing era (2012) has a proper sense of international cricket

Inzimam is fine.

National team selection is a piece of cake. 95% of current selections are all confirmed anyway. Anybody can select a team.

Easiest job for PCB media department - using old pictures of Inzi as Chief Selector :)

Feels like we are going back in time doesn't it.

More former Pak players to be given key roles I guess.

Look at it this way he is replacing haroon rasheed so i know who i would like between those two plus he also has a working relationship with mickey so i am hoping he wont tinker too much with the combination.

Member of the 1992 World Cup winning squad and former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been appointed as the chief selector of the national men’s selection committee. This committee – which includes Mickey Arthur, team director, Grant Bradburn, head coach, and Hasan Cheema, secretary – is mandated to select senior men’s team and Pakistan Shaheens.

With his appointment, Inzamam has withdrawn himself from the Cricket Technical Committee and his replacement will be announced in due course. His first assignment will be the selection of the national men’s squad for the three-match One-Day International series against Afghanistan between from 22 until 26 August in Sri Lanka and ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023, which commences on 30 August in Multan, later this week.

This is Inzamam’s second stint in the position. He previously served as the chief selector from August 2016 until July 2019. His selected team brought Pakistan its maiden ICC Champions Trophy title in June 2017 by defeating India in the final by 180 runs at The Oval, London.

Inzamam-ul-Haq: “It is an honour for me to be appointed as the chairperson of the national men’s selection committee. I am thankful to Mr Zaka Ashraf for offering me this post. It is wonderful to see the chairman is involving former players in the cricketing matters. I have worked previously in this role and I am eager to work in it once again.

“I had a good run in the last tenure. We had famous victories with the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 being the highlight, but my most important achievement is that around 70 to 80 per cent of the cricketers – selected back then – form the core of today’s sides. That team was in transition, but this team is stable and I would not face the same challenges.

“Heading a selection committee is already a tough job in Pakistan, but it is going to be more challenging this time with the ACC Men’s Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup around the corner followed by the tour of Australia. But, I know I can deliver in this role and I will try to do better than I did the last time. Despite the paucity of time, we will announce the best possible sides.”

PCB Management Committee Head Zaka Ashraf: “I am delighted that Inzamam-ul-Haq has agreed to head our national men’s selection committee at a crucial juncture. He is a legend and has served the game with dignity.

“Inzamam’s last tenure brought us success as we not only won the ICC Champions Trophy, but also unearthed some outstanding talent that continues to serve Pakistan cricket to date. I have no doubt that his new innings will add to the laurels and bring more talented cricketers to light.”

Why is the PCB so hell-bent on going backward? We already have a pretty decent idea of who's going to be in the squad we don't need any more major changes.

I just hope he doesn't bring back Faheem in white ball.

Inzimam will be key in picking a middle order that is capable of playing spin properly in the sub continent. This is his main area of expertise.

It is ridiculous to have Rizwan at number 4. Inzimam needs to sort this out

It's time to find talented selectors and Inzi is no better than I would be. We have these guys that do bugger all, and don't look for talent. Is it really possible that Afg has all these spinners and we have a 50 Yr old guy in the test team, or Imad and Nawaz is our spinners.

Inzi in his YT channel has stated many times his preference for picking players who can bat at a high strike rate so hoping he is also on board with the new Pakistan Way approach by the team management and therefore picks players accordingly.

Atleast he has played cricket in India and have the experience under his belt. It is not like Pakistan cricket is beeming with exceptional talent to pick from. Any selector based on talent will pick up the pretty much the same team barring a couple of players. The only thing is yet to be seen is whether he picks up a fast bowler like Ihsanullah in the world cup squad.

Not a bad decision. If Inzi has the balls, he will not pick Shawn Masood deservingly. Don't want him near our ODI team.

Inzy is not the best but deserves some time. Let’s see who he brings in over the next few months..

One of the worst selectors we had in recent times is back. Man doesn't know or doesn't care about modern day cricket. He persisted with Misbah as captain and as a player in the team when Misbah was losing every game and getting out in single digits match after match and Misbah is returning the favor .

Pakistan top 4 and last 4 are already been finalized, thanks to previous management for sticking with babar as captain despite horrible results in patches which really strengthen and stabilized the team.
Inzi will have a very easy job to select same players againsts afghanistan, asia cup and world cup.

Does this now mean. Amir and Shoaib Malik will make a comeback ?

I am happy Inzi is made the selector, his choices in 2017-19 were absolutely fine.

Was one of the better selectors we've had in last decade or so.

One of his flaws for LOIs is that he doesn't value a specialist spinner and prefers allrounder.

As long as we don't have the likes of Fahim Ashraf and Wasim opening the pace attack in tests, it's fine.

Indeed ridiculuous to have Rizwan at no.4, he can be handy coming in at 6 along with Nawaz at 7..
If Haris Sohail can improve his fitness will be a very good fit at no.4... Agha Salman / Ifthikar Ahmed can fill in no.5

Haris Sohail / Shan Masood/ Abdullah Shafique - will be competing for no.4
Agha and Ifthikar for no. 5

He is in good form recently against Srilanka in spin wickets.. If Haris is breaking down like butter biscuits then Shan puts his hat there

Abdullah isn't that great against spin Haris is way better than the other two against spin.

Thought he was ok in his first stint. I think he is a calm level headed person and will most likely not make too many changes. Also he has worked with Mickley which will help. I think he said his main task will be to find more talent to help supplement what we have..remember he selected the 2017 CT team.. let's be positive..at least he is not one of the baba brigade I.e. iqbal qasim and Co..

It is a fact that Rizwan is one of the best batsmen in Pakistan and a automatic selection for this WC. Despite this he is not a lower order hitter and number 6 does not suit his game.

He is at his best when he is rotating the strike and building an innings whilst putting a hefty price on his wicket. His skillset is suited to being as high up the order as possible.

Rizwan can do the job at 4. The roles of the quartet of Imam, Fakhar, Babar and Rizwan will be to get Pakistan to around 250-2 off 37-38 overs to lay a solid platform and ensure we reduce our dependence on the vulnerable middle/lower order.

Abdullah isn't that great against spin Haris is way better than the other two against spin.

Abdullah has scored 160 not out on a rank turner in Day 4, 5 conditions against Jayasuriya and then scored 200 runs against Jayasuriya again in Sri Lanka. You can't achieve that by being a bad player of spin. It is his approach which matters the most i.e. if he plays positively, he can score runs against anyone.

In Pakistan, you need a heavyweight like Inzi, Afridi like Chief Selectors otherwise the captain and coach will dominate them.

The conditions that he played in Sri Lanka wasn't rank turner's he's okay player of spin but still is a league below Haris espically in odis.

I can't imagine Mickey letting Inzi and Misbah walk all over him.

I'd like to think Mickey has a say in matters - if not, then I'm sure he would walk away and continue his role at Derbyshire.

Mickey and Grant have to be consulted by Inzy before any final squad decisions should be made..

Inzi has worked with Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn before. Don't think there will be any problems

The wrongs of 2019 have been corrected with the reinstatements of Mickey and Inzamam. Inzamam was one of the most progressive chief selectors we had. The spine of the white ball team debuted under him.

Some critics say he was lucky that his tenure coincided with the PSL's early years, but had he ignored those PSL performers then those same folks would've blasted Inzy for ignoring PSL performances !

Besides the chief selectors we've had since, including the hipster's choice Mohammad Wasim, didn't exactly set the world alight.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Wants Mickey Arthur And Grant Bradburn To Continue With Pakistan Cricket Team: Report

Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn, the foreign coaches attached with the Pakistan cricket team, are likely to continue in their respective roles

Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn, the foreign coaches attached with the Pakistan cricket team, are likely to continue in their respective roles with new chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq conveying to the management that he is comfortable working with them. South African Arthur was appointed as Team Director in April this year by the PCB while Bradburn came as Head Coach in May. However there was speculation that their stints might be cut short in case the cricket technical committee, that includes Inzamam and Misbah-ul-haq, won't give a positive response on presence of foreign recruits on the selection panel.

Inzamam, according to a PCB insider, is said to have played an influential role in convincing PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf and Board's Technical committee head Misbah-ul-Haq not to try to change the team management at this stage.

"It was Inzamam who gave positive feedback about Mickey Arthur and even Bradburn and assured the Chairman he will be able to work well with them and they can all do their best to select the best teams for coming events," the insider said.

Inzamam, after accepting the paid position, said that he has worked before with Arthur and also knew Bradburn well.

"I have worked before as Chief Selector and formed a good understanding with Mickey. With the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up and then a Test tour to Australia it is going to be a challenge in the coming days for us," Inzamam said.

Inzamam accepted the chief selector's position on Monday after stepping down as a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Technical Committee which is headed by another former captain, Misbah ul Haq.

Ironically Misbah was on the PCB's cricket committee in 2019 which after the World Cup in England had recommended against extending contracts of Arthur, who was head coach and Inzamam, who was the chief selector then.

Inzamam played 120 Tests and 378 ODIs for his country and also remained the captain between 2004 and 2007 when he retired after the World Cup.

He had accepted the chief selector's position in 2016 and worked with Arthur until 2019 when both were released by the PCB.

"I want to do a better job than I did the last time as chief selector and I am confident we have a bunch of strong players with Babar Azam as captain and if we continue to play positively like we did recently in Sri Lanka then we can move forward confidently." He said at one stage Zaka was not happy with the terms on which his predecessor, Najam Sethi had hired Arthur and how the team director, despite remaining in England, had hand-picked his own coaching staff.

"It was Inzamam who once he came onto the cricket technical committee said Arthur was capable of delivering and would be with the team for most part of the Asia Cup and then wholly for the World Cup and tour to Australia so the PCB should back him." The insider said Ashraf had a long discussion with Arthur on the advice of Inzamam and matters have now been settled and there would be no change in the team management.

However, there is one area where Inzamam might again face inquisitions over the selection of his nephew Imam ul Haq.

When Inzamam was chief selector the first time, Imam won his Pakistan cap and the former captain had to face a lot of queries on whether his nephew deserved to be picked ahead of other deserving players.

But at present Imam has established himself as a premier performer in 50-over cricket, boasting an average of 51.30 from 59 matches with nine hundreds and 16 half-centuries. So one can assume Inzamam will get plenty of breathing space where the selection of Imam is concerned.

Comments: Looks like Inzi's vote of Confidence in Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn saved them

I’ll be keeping a close eye on his progress.
So far the Pakistan squad for Afghanistan series and Asia cup isn’t horrible and he’s made the right call for Mickey.
He didn’t do bad last stint either.

Green flags so far.

Thank goodness Inzi showed the spine and dropped Shawn well deservedly.

Captain and coach (director) still dominating over him, but I am fine with that. Power center should be with one person at a time to avoide clashes. Currently it lies with Babar Azam.

Penny for your thoughts Inzi

I believe he has performed admirably in his role as chief selector, as he introduced fresh talent that had been overlooked by many others.

So yes! he is a perfect choice for this post.

According to a report, Inzi has threatened to quit twice

1. On contractual matters
2. When not consulted for NOC policy

I am hoping a third time also for WC squad but let's see

Stand by for one of the biggest decisions of his life

So did Inzi Bhai do a good job? #CWC23
I think he did as good a job as circumstances allow.

By that I mean it's clear Babar has the final say, and as much as I detest his captaincy and obvious favoritism for certain players, that's how it should be. Inzy wouldn't have tolerated it any other way if the roles were reversed.

Hasan Ali's selection was basically a process of elimination.

A more trivial point - good to see Inzy's one liners are back. His line on Kuldeep Yadav was gold.

What did he do?

Just handed in his homework a few days late and enjoyed free team/samosas at the PCB canteen
Relax. Babar will go after the inevitable 3-0 whitewash in Australia, then Inzy will have a freer hand in selection with a new captain that hopefully will come with a lot less ziddiness.

You think so. But that’s not going to be the case

Next in line is Rizwan. Andy flower has confirmed in interviews that this guy is also extremely stubborn

Thread about Inzi.

Thanks

Why did it take so long to even decide a squad?

They made it seem as if their taking long just to overhaul the entire team.

They literally made zero changes 😂. Only change was hasan Ali in for naseem Shah which is a forced change.

How? It was dead set clear naseem is permanently out. Max even if he made it back he'd be a travelling reserve due to his condition.

The main reason was if they announced it earlier everyone would have given them backlash so they thought they'd Weather the storm.

Which is funny because the youtube comments are thrashing inzi like theirs no tmr. No one has forgotten.

I'm glad all social media platforms, not just pakpassion forumn sees the stupidity that is babar friendship 11.

Nothing new is happening in Inzi's tenure. During his previous tenure as chief selector, selections were made without merit, there was a rift with hafeez at that time too and it seems to be the same now.

I'm absolutely stunned by the inclusion of Hasan Ali, which defies all possible selection criteria in existence. He cited Hasan's "experience" in big tournaments, the last time he played one he cost us with terrible performances and a dropped catch!

Inzi bhai has lost my faith completely.

Inzamam-ul-Haq to head Senior and Junior Men's Cricket Selection Committees

Appreciate Inzi for his choice of Abdullah Shafique?

I say this again.

Shafique a breath of fresh air and the Pak management should take credit for his induction.

He is surely the one for the future. Although he couldn't score much in Indo-Pak clash today but he is a great prospect.

As per Media report:

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq could quit as chief selector after differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to sources, Inzamam is unhappy over the appointment of Shahid Anwar as the head coach of the U19 men’s team.

Reportedly, Inzamam wanted former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousaf to be given the role of head coach of the U19 side.
