What's new

Bangladesh beat England by 108 runs in the 2nd Test, square series 1-1

Would have been in dominant position with 6 down, but still 116/4 in a session is great. Miraz actually can bat - but he has got out 3 times for 1 in identical fashion. This time, he should reach a double digit score.

Sabbir gone

Bangladesh still in a decent position. The pressure will be off from the lower order because we already have a fighting total on the board.

The session was 50-50 but we managed to salvage 3 wickets and if we can add another 30-40 runs we will be in a commanding position. England didn't score 250+ in the first innings, won't be east in the 2nd either

Ravi wants to make sure he can get Stokes banned before the India series :murali.

If this "standard" was implemented 40 years back, we won't have got Lillee, Botham, Sarfraz & many others, because they would have missed half of their career.

England still favorites. Lack of experience is a looming threat constantly for Bangla in this format.

They have botched opportunities in this series as well as in the Pakistan test series.

I think there is no pressure on our batsman at all in this session. They can bat with freedom even by throwing their hands.

What Bangladesh did in this session was good. England will definitely be under immense pressure chasing.

However, I still think that if England bat well it will be difficult. In which case I hope our tail scores some runs. If Sabbir was there we could be very confident.

Shakib's batting form has been so ordinary England didn't even use a review against Jim

It's not his form but termperament. He has been playing some poor shots in this test series. Seems like he doesn't have the patience to play a grinding innings anymore. I know he is strokeplayer but he is trying to play too many slogs instead of stroking the ball.

There is enough run for sure - but spinners have to bowl well & most importantly, catches are to be taken. The wicket is like a green top - get too excited with the turn & start to spoil your length, line, pace - match will be lost.

The key word is TIGHT - bowl maidens after maiden, if scorecard doesn't move, there will be plenty of unplayable balls. Mushi almost lost the Test with his ********* strategy to No. 9 & 10. A lead of 24 in 1st innings would have made it 316/7 .............

200 would have been enough of a rough ride. Surely then for England 270 would be near impossible to get?

This. A bit more composure wouldn't have gone amiss

Man I feel so bad for James Taylor. Having to do sky commentary at what? 24? 25? when he could've been playing there in Bangladesh and be an integral part of the squad. Him and Root would probably be the key for the chase atm.

Kismat key baat hai...

Temperament is a very big part of form

You could also tell that this was a result of staying out of longer format cricket for a long time. He didn't even play FC because of international commitments

Throwing your wicket away and poor shot selection is not a very big of your form.

Agreed with your second point.

Not defending his slogging.

But when a player is not in great form, he tries to find an easy way to score runs. Just giving you an example. When Kohli was having rough form he tried to slog Fizz of all bowlers in the first power play. It also varies from player to player. Some like to bat for a good amount of time to regain form. Some become aggressive

The thing about form is, it's temperamental and also about mental condition. Form itself is nothing but abstract, a lot of factors can be considered.

They say Mehdi Hassan is an All Rounder

Much better player than his score - just coming every time against reversing ball or ball turning squire. He bats around 40 average in FC, which is inflated, but much better player than this.

This Rashid guy is the luckiest bowler I have ever seen - hope his luck doesn't balance out in England.

I have no idea how he takes wickets. The lack of quality players of spin helps i suppose. He's a very ordinary spinner.

Man Rashid getting all these wickets of the tail. That was a bad ball and kamrul could have hit that anywhere

It's not that Bangladesh couldn't play Rashid. They always try to go after him

6/27; 5/30, 9/49 & 6/58 - we must have to work with the lower order. It's not only about skills, but I think, there is a mental block for the lower order - they just come to defend. Also, our 7th wicket always has been the set batsman - this has to change; we need someone at 6/7 who can stay with the tail & hit out. May be dropping Mahmood at 6 with Sabbir at 7 will help.

His stats in 1st class say something else! !!
You can't write off a player on single series! ! Cook is master batsman but this series! !! 30 from outings so far! !!!
I am not comparing cook with Mehedi! !!! just an example! !!

England will win, though not very comfortably. Bangladesh could have got a lead of 300+ after being in a great position of 200-3, which would have put England completely out of the contest.

Congratulations Bangladesh on your first ever Victory against a Top Test Playing nation. England to lost this with 100+ runs !!

Bookmark this post and thank me later

It would take a miracle from ENG to win from here. Barring that, BAN will claim their first big test scalp some time tomorrow.

You would have to fancy them against the Aussies here too.

Shakib pretty much lost his mojo, you guys are winning this one dude.

It's not impossible for England to win here as people are making it out to be. England will fight it out and win it.

England will be around 180/4 at the end of today's play.

Miraj is bowling a bit short here.

Too short. They are playing him off the back foot towards the off side almost every time. Should bring on taijul to exploit the rough from the other end and ask mehedi to bowl just short of a full length on middle off.

See that MMHS last ball of mehedis over. Just short of a full length on middle and off and that's what you get.

Mushy is thinking, he is 100 short, that has gone in to bowling.

Need the tea break asap - the bowling strategy is wrong. Should never be scared of ENG playing shots - on this track 55/1 can easily become 70/4

Cook set to win a test match for England this time in Bangladesh.

HitWicket I guess Ben Ducket read your sarcastic post. Guy is looking really determined

Need some sleep - hope it'll be 3 down by the time I come back.

Hales doesn't have guts to survive the venemous/ deadly Bangladesh attack.

This will be Bangladeshs worst ever Test loss if England chase it down.

If somehow England do win this (although the said result is highly unlikely), would probably be one of the greatest mental scars for Bangladesh in recent memory. I won't be surprised if they are pegged a few years and become minnoesque again !!

Was nowhere near the pitch. Deceived in flight yet hit it for six against the spin. Ducketts playing beautifully here

Great to see Bangladesh producing quality young cricketers ... In 5 years time they will be good in test cricket also

Hope Duckett plays well here so that he plays in India as well.

Ducketts going to start in India regardless of what happened his innings, all this is going to do is give him more confidence to play his natural game as he has this innings that will bring him more success at international level.

Looks like Cook and Duckett would chase this on their own.

Roooot fans are told to wait for their idol to come to bat till the next test.

Poor Finny. Only bowled eleven overs in the match for no wickets. He monstered BAN last time he was here.

More the lefties the merrier.:srini

Perfect day will be for Ballance to make a quickfire fifty here.

It's so lovey to watch England bat, their technique is solid. Also the way Cook bats and his smile, silent killer. Duckett is a better opener than Hales.
