Lets start with the obvious. We suck at T20s.
Now then how would you improve? There seems to be no plan, no structure whatsoever.
Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das and Mushfiqur were dropped from the team. Fair enough. Shakib is injured. Rubel Hossain also dropped but more on that later.
Who has been brought in?
Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Aminul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Yasir Ali, Akbar Ali.
Soumya Sarkar - Average of 18 @ SR of 122.15
Liton Das - Average of 19 @ SR of 122
Najmul Hossain Shanto [in T20s] - Average of 23 @ SR of 128
Saif Hassan [in T20s - today was his debut match] - Average of 27 @ SR of 114
Akbar Ali - Average of 21 @ SR of 126 and has never scored a 50 in T20s.
Yasir Ali - Average of 26 @ SR of 123
There is hardly a difference in the numbers. Yes numbers don't tell the whole story but they do tell a lot. Pakistan did not drop Hassan Ali though he probably cost them a spot in the Finals. Among the players Bangladesh have chosen I wont be surprised if 3 out of 4 are dropped in the next series.
Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah are in the wrong side of 30s and wont be in the team after couple of years. What Bangladesh needs to do is have a base. Yes the world cup was terrible -- but replacing for the sake of replacing and showing to the public that hey look we did something -- is hardly moving forward.
Liton would have probably won us the match against West Indies. That didnt happen. He has been dropped instead of continuing with him and giving him a chance to perform and build a team.
Soumya and Liton -- for all their disappointments are two of our relatively better players.
The players need to set their own regimen and take matters into their own hands instead of relying on an incompetent board and management.
Get the analysts -- get your data scrutinized.
Where are we failing - and where can we improve.
IPL is a great way to see whether you as a player can walk into an international team. the only thing for foreign players in IPL is performance. Only four Bangladesh players have ever been chosen to play in IPL. And among them only Shakib and Mustafizur got a decent amount of games.
A good T20 player will be chosen to play in IPL. Period.
Stop being so negative and saying we are not a team of power hitters. great and what can we do about it? Nothing?
