Lets start with the obvious. We suck at T20s.

Now then how would you improve? There seems to be no plan, no structure whatsoever.

Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das and Mushfiqur were dropped from the team. Fair enough. Shakib is injured. Rubel Hossain also dropped but more on that later.

Who has been brought in?

Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Aminul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Yasir Ali, Akbar Ali.

Soumya Sarkar - Average of 18 @ SR of 122.15
Liton Das - Average of 19 @ SR of 122

Najmul Hossain Shanto [in T20s] - Average of 23 @ SR of 128
Saif Hassan [in T20s - today was his debut match] - Average of 27 @ SR of 114
Akbar Ali - Average of 21 @ SR of 126 and has never scored a 50 in T20s.
Yasir Ali - Average of 26 @ SR of 123

There is hardly a difference in the numbers. Yes numbers don't tell the whole story but they do tell a lot. Pakistan did not drop Hassan Ali though he probably cost them a spot in the Finals. Among the players Bangladesh have chosen I wont be surprised if 3 out of 4 are dropped in the next series.

Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah are in the wrong side of 30s and wont be in the team after couple of years. What Bangladesh needs to do is have a base. Yes the world cup was terrible -- but replacing for the sake of replacing and showing to the public that hey look we did something -- is hardly moving forward.

Liton would have probably won us the match against West Indies. That didnt happen. He has been dropped instead of continuing with him and giving him a chance to perform and build a team.

Soumya and Liton -- for all their disappointments are two of our relatively better players.

The players need to set their own regimen and take matters into their own hands instead of relying on an incompetent board and management.

Get the analysts -- get your data scrutinized.

Where are we failing - and where can we improve.

IPL is a great way to see whether you as a player can walk into an international team. the only thing for foreign players in IPL is performance. Only four Bangladesh players have ever been chosen to play in IPL. And among them only Shakib and Mustafizur got a decent amount of games.

A good T20 player will be chosen to play in IPL. Period.

Stop being so negative and saying we are not a team of power hitters. great and what can we do about it? Nothing?

They need to drop all the seniors from the T20 team.

Not a single veteran is needed. Not even Shakib.

Start from scratch. Get a bunch of good youngsters with good attitudes. Groom them (like it was done in 2007-2008).

I feel veterans have arrogance issue and it is causing a negative vibe in the team. It is difficult for any coach to deal with an arrogant veteran.

I am a leg spinner - Please pick me!

Zampa, Rashid Khan, Sodhi, Shadab Khan - leg spinners had quite a say in the recently concluded World Cup T20s.

So where was Bangladesh's legspinner? Oh thats an art form that Bangladesh doesnt know how to nurture and the batsmen dont know how to play.

Consider today - Shadab Khan takes 20/1 in 4 overs. Your main spinner Mahedi is done with his quota of overs within the 9th over.

Clearly you would want to bowl someone who in his very short T20 career dismissed the likes of KL Rahul, Sreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, Shikar Dhawan, Ahsan Ali, Masakadza and Williams? Of course not if you are the Bangladesh captain. You instead bring yourself on.

Oops then how about the next over. Nope. Time to bowl the pacers. Umm....okay will he get to bowl at all? Of course he will. The 20th over. When the target is humongous 2 runs for Pakistan to win. Wait, seriously?

So you have a 22 year old leggie who has taken big wickets before -- and he wont get to bowl at all? While the 35 year old captain who occasionally bowls will bowl 3 overs. is this match more important than preparing for the next world cup? Have we forgotten than we beat New Zealand and Australia before the world cup and then lost all the matches in Super 12 and also lost to Scotland in the qualifiers.

Are we this stupid?

Well apparently we are.

Bangladesh doesnt have patience with leg spinners.

Give your young team the belief that even if they fail the team wont drop them after one series. Nurture them.

Or don't. Whats our T20 record as it is? Incredible, obviously.

I was surprised that Mahmudullah didn't try Aminul Islam earlier (a leggie).

Aminul Islam should be groomed. A leggie is needed badly.

The curious case of Rubel Hossain

In the first 5 years of his T20I career, Rubel played 7 matches.

3 matches in 2009.
0 matches in 2010.
2 match in 2011.
1 match in 2012.
1 match in 2013.

245/6 in the above matches.

In 2014 he played 4 matches. 68/1 in 3 matches and one where the match couldn't be continued so he didn't have to bowl.

Rubel played 0 matches in 2015. And 2016.

But Rubel was back in the team in 2017. 5 matches. He picked up 8 wickets including his career best 31/3. He was finally making his spot a fixed one in the team. Which the team selectors also seemed to agree considering he played a whopping 11 matches in 2018. Thats almost 40% of his T20I career in one year.

Number of matches Rubel played in 2019? 0. And also 2020.

He played one match in 2021. Was there in the world cup squad but didn't get to play in any game. Bangladesh already have Mustafizur and Taskin and Shoriful.

And dropped from the team for his poor performance in the world cup. Wait, but he didnt play in the world cup. Doesn't matter. Dropped. Bangladesh lost all matches in the Super 12. We need changes!

What next for Rubel? Who knows. At 31+ years he probably has played his last T20I match for Bangladesh.

Or maybe he will be brought back to the team. Lets give it a year.

The way to improve in T20s is to first make your home wickets more batting friendly it’s not developing the batsmen at all they are exposed once they play abroad.

Also batsmen need to improve their power hitting more experience in big leagues around the world will help the gap is widening for Bangladesh between them and the best teams only format they have some hope is ODIs in tests and T20s they need improvement.

Pakistan team also had the same problems in t20 world cup 2016. I think we did not win against any big team in that world cup. But then PSL happened and most of the players you see now in Pakistan team are the products of PSL. The likes of Fakhar, Asif, Haider, Shadab, Hasan, Haris, Shaheen got massive advantage of PSL because when they performed in PSL, it was impossible for the selectors to ignore them.

The point is Pakistan got some good T20 players through PSL after 2016. Bangladesh has its own BPL which started before PSL. But still why Bangladesh is not able to produce good T20 cricketers? Most of Bangladesh T20 problems will solve when they answer this question.

So finally the leg spinner was given a bowl today.

He got Fakhar but wait - catch dropped.
He got Rizwan but wait - catch dropped.
Gets Rizwan again a ball later.

Bangladesh need to persist with a leggie.

Shakib and Saifuddin will walk into the team and rightly so when they come back from their injuries.

Tamim might come back as the opener. Need Liton Das too.

Yeah.

I think he should be persisted with.

It is not like other spinners are doing any better.

I didnt check the stats. but i suspect bpl average runs is lot less than psl avg runs.
