Bangladesh tour of the West Indies (2022)

Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan said the batting performance in the first innings where his side were bowled out for just 103 in 32.5 inside just more than one session, was 'not acceptable'. He said the other batters in the side can take a leaf out of Nurul Hasan Sohan's book on how to apply themselves in tough situations.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 53 and 80 runs in South Africa where there batting effort was calamitous against spin. Then against Sri Lanka at home, when they found a flat wicket at Chattogram, they looked back in touch. Then in Dhaka, where there was a little help for seamers, Bangladesh came up with a familiar look with the bat as top-order collapse in both innings of the Dhaka Test led to them losing the series.

Shakib was handed the captaincy following the Sri Lanka series, but has not been able to solve the side's batting issue just yet. Bangladesh top-order once again collapsed in both innings of the Antigua Test as the hosts picked up a seven-wicket win.

Asked at the post-match presentations on the batting effort in the first innings, Shakib said it was unacceptable.

"It's not acceptable and we have been doing it quite regularly now in Tests. The last four or five Tests we have played, we have done that pretty regularly. It's not acceptable. Batsmen need to stay in the wicket and score runs and that's how at least survive the Test match and then bowlers will win you the match. That's a simple equation that we need to work on and get better at it," Shakib said today.

Despite the lack of application from other batters, Shakib himself picked up fifties in both innings. His 123-run stand with Nurul Hasan minimised the margin of defeat in the end. Nurul came in at a tough situation when the top and middle-order had already crumbled. He applied himself better than most and Shakib praised the wicket-keeper's determination under pressure.

"I think there was a lot to be learned from that innings. Nurul played really well and he was under pressure. I won't say he wasn't under pressure but the way he applied himself showed a lot of character and what he is capable of. I think our other batsmen can take the challenge that Nurul took. They can take the same approach and play some good cricket in next match," Shakib said on Nurul.

Shakib, who scored half centuries in each innings of a Test for the fourth time and the second time against West Indies, said that his idea was to keep things simple and play his natural game.

"I was positive in my batting. I wasn't thinking the ball will do this or that. I kept my game simple. If it's there to hit, I will do so or else I will survive. That was the simple game plan that always worked for me and that's how I was successful, so I am not changing that," he concluded.

Unacceptable? The key phrase is ‘we have been doing it quite regularly in tests’

In more blunt terms - this is normal Bangladesh test cricket. Ireland or Zimbabwe would comfortably beat BD at home.

Ireland. Yes.

Zimbabwe. Probably not.

Bangladesh actually toured Zimbabwe last year. Won all games.

Fair enough. I stand corrected if that was the full strength Zimbabwe team.

The team Zimbabwe currently have is their full-strength team.

Others are either retired (guys like Masakadza, Taylor, Taibu etc.) or went to English county cricket.

Bangladesh is terrible but Zimbabwe is worse.

BCB on Monday afternoon announced inclusion of Shoriful and that he will leave for St Lucia on the same day to join the team

Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been named in the squad for the second and the final Test of the series against hosts West Indies.

Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] on Monday afternoon announced inclusion of the left-arm pacer and that he will leave for St Lucia on the same day to join the Bangladesh squad.

Bangladesh are behind in the two-match series 1-0 losing the first game of the series by seven wickets in Antigua on Sunday. Bangladesh will face Windies in the second Test starting on June 24 at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia. The two Tests are part of the ICC World Test Championship.

Shoriful was not made part of the Test squad initially given he was recovering from an injury.

Member of the ICC U19 World Cup 2020 champion team, Shoriful picked the injury on his right hand while batting in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Chittagong in May. An X-ray later confirmed a fracture and put him out from action since.

Shoriful was initially supposed to join the team in West Indies on for the limited-over matches and travel from Dhaka on June 24.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) Men’s Selection Panel has named an unchanged squad for the second Padma Bridge – Dream Fulfilled - Friendship Test match against Bangladesh. The match will be played at the Daren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia from June 24-28. West Indies have a 1-0 lead in the Padma Bridge – Dream Fulfilled – Friendship Test Series, presented by Walton. They won the first match by seven wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sunday.

Kemar Roach was named the Player-of-the-Match in the opening contest. He had match figures of 7-74 – including the match-winning 5-53 in the second innings. This took him to 249 wickets in his career, joint sixth alongside the legendary Michael Holding, on the West Indies all-time list of wickets-takers. He is also the leading West Indies bowler at eighth position in the latest ICC Test Match bowling rankings.

Lead Selector the Most Honorable Dr Desmond Haynes said: “It was a very good victory in Antigua. The team played really well and must be feeling really confident heading into Saint Lucia for the second match. We have a group of players who are very disciplined and are giving 100 percent. Great credit to our bowlers who worked really hard in the first Test match. We can’t take Bangladesh lightly, they also bowled really well and were quite disciplined. I know we will try our utmost to win the second match.”

Haynes added: “Kemar is a legend. He has done really well for West Indies. He made a great start to his career, then had some injuries, then he worked his way back and is our leading bowler. He’s among the best in the world. I am very pleased with his performances, not just on the field, but the way he had been guiding the younger players and the way he has been interacting with the other members of the team.”

West Indies won the toss and opt to bowl

Bangladesh test cricket is really in big big trouble. The players doesn't have any kind of mentality and temperament to play test cricket.

It won't change overnight. It will continue for at least a few years (poor performance) even the deficiency is rectified just now. Our domestic structure, tournaments will continue to produce these types of test players if a lot of things aren't changed.

Bangladeshi tail is finally scoring some runs.

Current partnership: 28 runs (3.1 overs).

Positive start from WI openers but as Ambrose and Bish have mentioned, John Campbell may find himself in trouble with his head falling over to the offside.

From 68/1 to 234 all out.

Another poor day for Bangladesh.

Mainul

The real problem is - ‘When have Bangladesh ever had any success in tests?’

The fact is Bangladesh have been completely outclassed in the vast majority of texts they have played. This suggests sone deep lying issues. I think it is a mixture of mental and physical strength.

Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell consolidated a dominant position for the West Indies in reaching 67 without loss at stumps after their bowlers dismissed Bangladesh for 234 on the first day of the second and final Test in St Lucia on Friday.

A day that started well for the home captain when he won the toss to give his bowlers first use of a sporting pitch ended with Brathwaite unbeaten on 30 and Campbell 32 not out, the pair laying the platform going into day two when they will be seeking to take a step closer to a 2-0 series sweep of their opponents.

Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales led the West Indies bowling effort with three wickets each while debutant Anderson Phillip, who took the first wicket of the match with just his second ball in Test cricket, and the versatile Kyle Mayers claimed two apiece.

That reinforced not just their skipper's decision at the toss but also the selectors' choice in opting for an additional seamer in Phillip at the expense of first Test debutant and spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Given their reputation of vulnerability in these conditions against a concerted fast bowling attack, the visitors were indebted to a counter-attacking 53 from middle-order batter Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal's 46.

It looked very ominous for Bangladesh at the start of play when, with just the third delivery of the match, Kemar Roach forced Tamim to fend off a sharp lifter in an experience reminiscent of what the West Indies endured a year earlier when they were battered, bruised and humiliated by the South African fast bowlers in back-to-back Tests at the venue.

This time the shoe was on the other foot though, even if Roach, poised on 249 Test wickets, went wicketless through the first innings with the supporting bowlers more than eager to fill the breach left by the luckless senior seamer.

- Tamim gives Bangladesh strong start -

Tamim and opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy displayed much more determination than many would have expected in an opening stand of 41 and it took the introduction of Phillip just before the end of the first hour's play to make the breakthrough.

With a full-length delivery, the fast-medium bowler breached the defence of Hasan Joy to get the West Indies going.

Tamim continued to bat resolutely, mixing solid defence with unrestrained aggression when the rare loose ball came along.

However the left-hander's own impetuousity proved his undoing as a loose drive at Joseph gave Jermaine Blackwood a comfortable catch at cover-point with the lunch interval looming.

Four wickets in the afternoon session kept Bangladesh on the back foot although Liton's experience and occasional aggression ensured that his team were not completely bogged down.

He reached his half-century in the final session but lost Mehidy Hasan Miraz to an excellent diving catch by Devon Thomas at backward-point off Mayers, the substitute fielder setting the standard for a good day in the field for the West Indies.

It was not a good final session for the bowlers however as they lost their composure with Shoriful Islam, one of two changes to the Bangladesh line-up from the first Test, and Ebadot Hossain swinging powerfully and often at anything within reach.

Their combined efforts ensured that 43 runs were added for the last two wickets to give themselves and the other bowlers something to work with.

But the inadequacy of that total was put in perspective by the ease of the unbroken stand between Brathwaite and Campbell, suggesting that captain Shakib Al Hasan and the other bowlers will face a tough task to limit the West Indies progress.

Apart from drafting in Shoriful at the expense of fellow-seamer Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh also opted for Anamul Haque over out-of-form former captain Mominul Haque for this match.

Good session for Bangladesh as West Indies reach 137-4 at lunch.

West Indies trail Bangladesh by 97 runs with 6 wickets remaining

Nkrumah Bonner is good for WI's poor batting standards; but I don't see him faring too well against quality pace. Better for slow, flat wickets.

West Indies should try to score 500-550 and bat Bangladesh out of the game.

WI - 206/4.

First ton for Kyle Mayers since that astonishing double hundred on debut in Chattogram in the run chase.

Bangladesh heading towards yet another Test defeat it seems.

First ton for Kyle Mayers since that astonishing double hundred on debut in Chattogram in the run chase.

Indeed.

As a matter of fact, that was his only Test hundred prior to this Test.

Looks like he loves playing against Bangladesh.

Kyle Mayers' second Test century has helped put West Indies in control after the second day of the second Test in North Sound.

Things were looking somewhat grim for West Indies when they lost three quick wickets just prior to lunch on day two to fall to 132/4, but Kyle Mayers took over with a splendid knock to give the hosts the ascendancy.

Mayers batted sensibly when required and attacked the bad deliveries when they came to score his second Test century and put his side in control at stumps on day two.

The left-hander was particularly savage on anything loose that he could hammer through the point and cover region and this helped him finish the day unbeaten on 126.

While Mayers' 116-run partnership with Jermaine Blackwood (40) did the majority of the damage, it was the unbeaten 92-run stand with Joshua Da Silva (26*) late in the day that really took any glimmer of hope away from Bangladesh.

Mehidy impresses on tough day for Bangladesh

With star spinner Shakib Al Hasan going wicketless through 18 overs, it was left to fellow tweaker Mehidy Hasan Miraz to do the majority of the damage for the visitors.

Mehidy picked up the key wicket of West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite (51) early in his spell and then returned later in the day to trap Blackwood plumb in front in what was another excellent piece of off-spin bowling.

While those two scalps were the only wickets Mehidy could snaffle on what was a frustrating day for Bangladesh, the 24-year-old can at least hold his head high in the knowledge that West Indies' batting line-up failed to pick him at times and found scoring difficult when he had the ball.

Mehidy's 31 overs went for just 68 runs and the slow right-armer was clearly the best of the Bangladesh bowlers.

The Caribbean nation must still fancy their chances in the World Test Championship as a victory in the second Test here will provide them with some valuable ascendancy in the race to qualify for next year's final.

West Indies currently sit in sixth place on the World Test Championship standings, but a series win over Bangladesh will keep them in touch with the teams in front of them.

Bangladesh are ninth on the current standings and would need to find form very quickly if they want to work their way back into contention.

WI - 376/7.

Leading by 142 runs.

Mayers is on 140*. Can he score another double hundred?

Tourists struggling again and already behind by 142.

Uphill battle for Bangladesh.

Looks like it is raining hard. Doesn't seem like the ground has a great drainage system.

2nd Test • Bangladesh tour of West Indies, 2022

WI 408 (126.3)

BAN 234 (64.2)

Day 3: Innings Break - West Indies lead by 174 runs

Just inside an hour's time after lunch for those final three wickets to fall. Mayers was the first to go, deceived by a crafty slower ball from Khaled and Shoriful then had Phillip nicking. The final wicket was Khaled's and it took the fast bowler to his first-ever fifer in Tests. West Indies will be quite pleased with their batting effort. They would have wanted a few more of those starts to be converted into big knocks but nevertheless, lots of batters chipped in as the side performers while Mayers put in the star show with a superlative century. That he had come into bat when West Indies slipped from 131-1 to 132-4, makes the knock all the more exemplary. Bangladesh's bowlers were good only in patches, with only Khaled and Mehidy putting on a proper bowling effort. With a healthy lead and the surface already showing some variable bounce, West Indies will fancy themselves.

It's like groundhog day with the Bangladesh batters.

Don't put a price on their wicket, some loose shots and pressure on the middle and lower order.

Can Bangladesh somehow scrape a lead of 170 and then try to put some pressure on West Indies.

Need a big 100 from Shakib.

Bangladesh might not even make the West Indies bat again here.

BD - 132/6.

Trailing by 42 runs.

Game didn't take place all day due to wet outfield. They are supposed to start in 5 minutes.

BD are all out for 186.

West Indies need 13 runs to win the Test match and win the series 2-0.

WI have won three back-to-back Tests which hasn't happened often since the glory years.

BD have serious thinking to do about their direction as a Test nation. Too many injudicious shots where batsmen were throwing their hands at balls well outside offstump.

This team is an embarrassment to international cricket. Srilanka going through there worst phase is still much better so is Afghanistan.

I don't know how the hell Bangladesh won a test match in NZ. They're truly embarrassing especially in test cricket. That win vs NZ seems more like a fluke now.

Wasn't fluke. It was a well planned execution.

BD bowlers performed ok,it is their batting which let them down.Their shot selection and temperament is poor.

Wasn't fluke. It was a well planned execution.

Yeah right. Same execution which saw them lose a test vs Pak at home in 2 days.

ICC should create 2 tiers for test cricket & demote Bangladesh in tier 2. They're an embarrassment to test cricket.

West Indies clinched a series sweep with an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Saint Lucia.

West Indies v Bangladesh Scorecard

All too easy for West Indies

There was no miracle on the fourth day in Saint Lucia as West Indies wrapped up a comfortable 10-wicket triumph with ease.

Alzarri Joseph (3/57) got the ball rolling by dismissing underrated batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 4, before Jayden Seales (3/21) got in on the act with two quick wickets as the end of the Test loomed for the visitors.

Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan (60*) hit out to at least ensure West Indies had to bat again, but they only had to chase down 13 to clinch the Test and they did that in less than three overs.

While Kemar Roach took most of the plaudits for picking up his 250th Test wicket during the clash, it was Kyle Mayers that was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match award.

Not only did Mayers set up the victory with his magnificent 146 during West Indies' first innings, but he also made a strong contribution with the ball with two Bangladesh scalps on the opening day of the Test.

The 29-year-old all-rounder trapped the dangerous Najmul Hossain Shanto during a vital stage of Bangladesh’s first innings and then returned later to send Mehidy packing to finish with decent figures of 2/35.

World Test Championship implications

The 2-0 series sweep keeps West Indies in the hunt for next year's World Test Championship final, with the Caribbean side holding on to sixth place on the standings.

West Indies have a 50 percent winning percentage having now won four Test matches in the current World Test Championship period and will get the chance to move further up the standings when they travel Down Under later in the year to face the all-conquering Australia line-up.

New Zealand just had a bad Test match. That's all.

They completely destroyed BD the very next game.

It was fluke. Yes.

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons heaped praises on Kemar Roach for completing 250 Test wickets and said that he guided the fast bowlers to mature quickly through his experience.

“(Roach) is helping the fast bowlers to mature quicker. I think he has an exceptional influence on all the young fast bowlers. He has taken his role as the senior pro very seriously. It shows on the field. You can see him talking to them, who are trying to do the right things all the time. I think his influence has been massive to these young fast bowlers”, said Simmons.

Simmons credited fast bowlers for taking wickets on the slow pitches and said it was the biggest gain for the West Indies from their 2-0 win over Bangladesh.

“The first (Test) wicket wasn't conducive to fast bowling but we got them out for low scores. In this Test match, to get them bowled out on the first day on a comparatively slow wicket, gave us the driver's seat. The fast bowlers deserve a lot of credit,"

“We have worked hard in the two series, and come out victorious. This one maybe wasn't as hard as the first one, the important thing is that at the end of the day, the W is behind the two Tests. We won 2-0 in Bangladesh in 2021 as well. You have to take all those things, and sit back and enjoy it," he said.

The head coach praised newcomer Kyle Mayers for his all-round performance, he struck his second Test century in St Lucia.

"He brings in the wicket-taking factor. He is not express, but he puts the ball in the right areas. If he bats normally, he scores quickly in all three formats. I have to get him to understand that he needs to bat normally. Once we get that, he is going to be a force to be reckoned with," he added.

Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) Selection Panel today announced the West Indies Men’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International Series and the three-match CG United One-Day International Series against Bangladesh.

Rovman Powell has been announced as the new Vice Captain for the T20Is while left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy returns after recovering from injuries. There are also recalls for experienced wicket-keeper batter Devon Thomas and allrounder Keemo Paul. In the CG United ODI Series squad, there is a call up for left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Lead Selectors the Most Honorable Dr Desmond Hayne said: “We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including himself, who we will be putting programmes around to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of the cricket.”

“Thomas is a very versatile cricketer, who has been knocking on the door in all formats. He has been doing well in franchise cricket and with that level of talent, we must ensure we keep him interested. He brings a lot to the table and is basically a four-dimensional player, he can bat, bowl, he is brilliant in the field, and he can keep wicket as well. McCoy has done exceptionally well in the IPL and enjoyed a successful stint in England as well, so we are confident that he is back to his best in terms of playing and fitness,” Haynes added.

“Generally, we have to start looking at the bigger picture of getting these players playing together as often as possible in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup later down in the year. We need to ensure we are fielding a very strong side for that tournament.”

The T20I Series opens with back-to-back matches on Saturday, 2 July and Sunday, 3 July at the Windsor Park in Dominica. This will see a return to international cricket at the fully refurbished venue, where international cricket is being hosted for the first time since the hurricane damage of 2017. The Series climaxes with the third and final match on Tuesday, 7 July at the Guyana National Stadium. The CG United ODI Series will be played at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday, 10 July, Monday 13 July and Thursday, 16 July.

West Indies have lost last 3 ODI series against BD (2 in BD and 1 in West Indies).

BD will hopefully put up a better fight in ODI.

India
Australia
England
South africa
New Zealand
Pakistan

Sri Lanka
West Indies
Bangladesh
Afganistan
Ireland
Zimbabwe.

Only issue with tier one is that we don't play with India which means Pakistan & India could only play 4 test series in one cycle. That's the reason I said 7 teams.

But in an alternate universe 2 tiers would be like this. Where all teams will play other teams on home & away basis(preferably 3 at home & 3 away) in one cycle & at the end of the cycle the team at number 6 gets demoted to tier 2 or you can have a 3 matches playoff between #6 of tier 1 & #1 of tier 2.

Bangladesh scripted an unwanted record after conceding a 10-wicket defeat to West Indies in the second Test, which not only gave them a bitter taste of whitewash but also completed their 100th defeat in this format.

It's not that Bangladesh are the only country to concede the 100th defeat in the cricket's elite format. Eight other teams reached this unwanted milestone ahead of Bangladesh but what made the difference was that Bangladesh was the quickest to reach their record and they had a dismal win-loss ratio.

Apart from Zimbabwe, which played just 115 Tests, all other Test nations saw their 100th defeat. Ireland and Afghanistan, the two newest Test nations are exceptional because they didn't play as many matches to put them on this list.

Bangladesh however reached this shameful record in their 134 Tests in 22 years. They won just 16 while 18 matches were drawn.

However vulnerable Bangladesh remains in this format still will be better understood if the stat of New Zealand is considered. Before Bangladesh, New Zealand were the quickest to get the taste of 100 defeats but their century of defeat came in their 241 matches and in 65 years.

Sri Lanka scored the century of defeat in 2017 after playing 266 matches in 35 years. India though took 20 years to get their first Test win, they played 303 matches before hitting a century. Pakistan got their 100th Test defeat in 357 matches. While India took 64 years, Pakistan needed 59 years for this record.

Yes good idea but they could organise a test series between India and Pakistan in neutral venues.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed and off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz have been called up to the Bangladesh T20I squad for the three-match series against the West Indies, which begins in Dominica Saturday.

Miraz is yet to play a T20I since December 2018 but has been a regular in Tests and ODIs.

Taskin meanwhile, has made full recovery from an injury sustained in South Africa in April this year and makes his return to international cricket.

The Bangladesh T20I squad originally named for the series has been hit hard by injuries with pacer Shahidul Islam pulling out prior to the tour.

Middle order batsman Yasir Ali Chowdhury was forced to return home from Antigua with a back injury while all-rounder Saifuddin got withdrawn as he is still short of optimal fitness for international cricket.

The first two matches of the series will be played at Windsor Park, Dominica Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The third and final T20I will be played at Guyana Stadium Thursday.

Can it get any worse for BD players?

Dominica: The Bangladesh cricket team is ready to face West Indies in the first T20I of a three-match series at the Windsor Park Dominica in Dominica on Saturday. However, the players of the visiting side suffered a near-death experience before the match during their travel from Saint Lucia to Dominica.

All the Bangladeshi players travelled from Saint Lucia to the match venue by sea which is approx 180 km. The journey takes around five hours and the visiting players suffered a horrid time travelling through the sea on a ferry. Almost all the Bangladeshi players didn’t have the experience of travelling through ferries and they fell sick till the time they reached Dominica. A lot of visiting players kept vomiting throughout the journey.

One of the Bangladesh cricketers said that they could die in such a journey, while another senior cricketer of the country remarked that it was the worst tour of his life.

“We are the ones who can fall sick and die here, us, nothing will happen to them. I have toured many countries, this is the first time I am experiencing something like this. None of us are used to this. Forget about playing, what will happen if one of us gets seriously ill in the ferry. This is the worst tour of my life,” said the players to Bangladesh newspaper Prothom Alo.

During the journey, the waves began when the ferry reached the middle of the sea. The ferry carrying the players wasn’t a large one, hence, even six-to-seven feet high waves were enough to make the ferry swing wildly. It heavily affected players’ health who began to feel sea-sick. Pacer Shoriful Islam and wicketkeeper-batter Nafees Iqbal got affected the most during the journey. Shoriful Islam vomited multiple times during the journey due to the sea waves.

Bangladesh are currently in West India to play three T20I matches against the home side.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has been on the receiving end of heavy criticism following Bangladesh cricket team’s traumatic journey by sea from Saint Lucia to Dominica Thursday.

Bangladesh team travelled to Dominica to play the first match of the three-T20I series against hosts West Indies.

In the five-hour long travel, a number of cricketers and member of the team management felt severely seasick.

Fingers were pointed at BCB, particularly the cricket operations committee’s bilateral negotiation and agreement with Windies Cricket regarding travel arrangements for the tour.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has pushed ball towards Windies Cricket and claimed that the BCB had raised concerns on the matter initially.

According to Nizamuddin, the BCB had no option but to go ahead with the travel arrangement provided.

“We [BCB] were concerned regarding the issue. But the first thing is that it is the host country that always arranges the transportations. Still, we did show our concern about this. But the problem was that the Windies official wanted to send contingents of both sides together as it is their standard practice,” said Nizamuddin to the Daily Star in Dhaka Friday.

“They could not arrange a charter flight to carry both contingents at once. Also, due to Covid restrictions, only flights with fewer seating capacities were available. And hence, they opted for the ferry. We did show our concern regarding this, but they assured us that things would be fine as the Windies team would also travel with the Tigers. The thing is, we can relay our concern to them but the final call about making travel arrangements is made by the host country,” the BCB high-up added.

Members of the team however, are not convinced with the explanation from the BCB and a few strongly believe that it has been a negotiation failure.

A senior cricketer of the team while speaking to Dhaka Tribune Friday said, “We often hear a visiting team in Bangladesh has not agreed to this or that and that the BCB has made an alternative arrangement. But I think it has not been the case with us in the West Indies. It has been a negotiation failure or they simply could not understand trouble of such a journey.”

A video report on the incident on a cricket-based portal showed Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah in conversation with team logistics manager Nafees Iqbal.

“Who should take responsibility for this incident now? A few players have been severely sick. Only a few are being able to stand, others have simply flattened out and we are only at half way. The sea ahead is rougher than what we have just experienced,” Mahmudullah was seen saying to Nafees.

Bangladesh T20I team will take on the West Indies in the first T20I at Windsor Park in Dominica Saturday.

Concerns have been raised if the cricketers can recover from the sickness in time.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin is confident of the recovery.

“They reached safely. We were in continuous communication. No doubt, it was a bad experience for the players. We saw some players suffer while some enjoyed themselves. But the main thing is it was not at all a good journey for Bangladesh,” said Nizamuddin.

“I spoke with team physio Bayjedul [Islam] and he assured that the players reached safely and that there would not be any repercussions as players will be able to recover after a day's rest.”

Dying from seasickness, is that possible? Seems a bit of an exaggeration. I'd imagine those that didn't fall sick to have enjoyed the boat ride in the Caribbean

I suppose someone could suffer from vomiting and diarrhoea on a long boat trip to the extent where they could die from dehydration and kidney failure. But this would be a very irresponsible death to occur in a touring party of cricketers who have a doctor and physio etc travelling with them.
