Will the tigers be defeated in their own den once again or will the lions suffer an upset this time around? This promises to be another thoroughly engaging test match.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bangladesh squad

Mushfiqur Rahim*, Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mahmudullah, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mominul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Shuvagata Hom, Soumya Sarkar, Subashis Roy, Taijul Islam

England squad

AN Cook*, MM Ali, ZS Ansari, JM Bairstow†, JT Ball, GS Ballance, GJ Batty, SCJ Broad, JC Buttler†, BM Duckett, ST Finn, H Hameed, AU Rashid, JE Root, BA Stokes, CR Woakes, MA Wood

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

England will likely go with three spinners and Bangladesh might play four. Stay tuned for the toss followed by the first session.

Bangladesh have won the toss and will bat. Cook would have liked a bat too. Finn makes a return while Ansari is making his debut.

Bangladesh has played Anwar Ali's spin reincarnation Shuvagoto Hom.

Poor batsman poor bowler. Joke of an all-rounder

Mominul is such a sweet batsman to watch. I hope he scores big runs

Half Pakistani, Zafar is smashed in his first over of debut.

B'desh 67/1 in 13 overs. Bright start...

B'desh has come a long way from the time I watched them play first in test cricket which had players like Khaled Mashud, Akram Khan, Rafique, Habibul Bashar and some 2/ 3 Hossain's :D

They surely are no longer minnows. Just need to know how to close out games when you are close to winning!

That applies to limited over internationals.

We still have a long way to go in tests but with Taskin and Fizz we can become a good team.

For a start we should arrange more test matches. Australia is coming to Bangladesh next September. That will be fun. If we continue our upward curve you could even call us favourites

Tamim's 80% of test runs seems to have been scored against poms..

He somehow bats out of his skin against poms

Tamim had the potential to be one of the best openers. However, he never fulfilled his potential. You can see how less talented batsman like Vijay has outshine.

He is finally coming good. Averaging 50+ in tests and one dayers since world cup.

This Zafar guy is bowling trash. Is he a batting all rounder?

B'desh should target 400-450 in their first innings now.

SLAs are like a dime a dozen in BD domestics, so batsmen like Tamim and Mominul can play bowlers like Zafar in their dreams. Zafar's domestic stats aren't even special either

Cook is being dumb in persisting with Zafar against two lefties, he should save him for the RHBs

Playing a left arm spinner against two left handed batsman who are among the best players of Left arm spin is poor stuff.

Rashid Bhai here now

Putting my money on Bangladesh this time. Seems like a result oriented wicket. Good stuff.

I'm struggling to understand whether the pitch is flat or not.

I hope it's sporty.

But both batsman look at ease. Helped by poor bowling by English

BD still struggling against Stokes :))

It will be interesting to see how he does against India

I don't understand... how is Stokes better economically than the main strike bowlers? :ibutt

Is he really this good or Bangla playing him on reputation.

Stokes is a quality player.

He is going through good form which is why he is doing well in both departments.

Lol how do you guage talent?

Started using Pakistani terms eh..:msd

50 for Mominul Haque!

This guy is good. Averaging 50+. Hope he maintains this average.

Btw, realized Mominul is the only lefty batsman in the subcontinent with 50+ average. Current batsman ofcourse

Eng under the pump now. Bangla off to a flier. 300+ and game on.

Effect of being on Pakpassion with threads of players who never "fulfilled potential". I think we can use the word "promise"

Vijay always had a wonderful technique. Even when he was playing his blitzkrieg knocks in the IPL with CSK, you could see he could hit effortless sixes with easy pick up shots. It was apparent that he had the technique to succeed in the longer format but he underachieved a lot at the start of his career. Also it was tough to break into the team when Sehwag and Gambhir were in their pomp.

I think you and other ppers should say "BD" not " bangla". Bangla is a language. BD is more convenient and a proper abbreviation for Bangladesh

Ofcourse I am not suggesting that what you have said is offensive unintentionally.

Yes ofcourse. He has a soothing technique.

He was underrated because he didn't have the flashy technique nor did he have swagger of most Indian batsman.

He saved India from embarrassment so many times, and also helped them win key games in the middle. A better test bat than Pujara and Kohli

Tamim is a much better batsman in test cricket than LOIs.

I don't rate Tamim highly in LOIs, he is a bit of a minnow basher. But he is a pretty good test opener.

Not a minnow basher but a bottler under pressure. But he has improved himself in LoIs. T20s and ODIs.

I think he has more potential in shorter formats

Those who are watching the match, is the wicket a turner?

If so, England are in deep deep trouble here.

It's not like Chittagong where the ball was turning from Day 1 but looking at the pitch you can tell it will get progressively harder to bat on as the cracks start to widen. Bangladesh have got a real advantage by winning the toss and batting first and the start too is a good one. Hope they can capitalise on it.

Point noted. You learn something new everyday :))

Decent batting track by the looks of it. No terrors thus far.

England clawing their way back. We should try not to lose any more wicket before tea.

Ball is definitely turning right now. Good signs for our 7 spinners?

:)))
:)))

Bangladesh was looking good for 500. Now we have to settle for half that much runs but even if we score 250 we can bowl England out cheaply with spin

When I was watching the pitch looked like a good batting wicket.

Has the pitch started to turn more? Or is there uneven bounce? If not then wth are these clowns doing?

BD were 150-1. I went to the mosque to pray jummah and ate dinner and then saw the scorecard. Dear lord what happened?!!

That, Bangla fans, is how I felt watching England in 1992 when W&W were flying in.

Come on England, be 35-0 at the close, not 20-2 please.

England seriously needs to replace Duckett. He will be eaten alive by Indian spinners

Whats worse BD batting or Dharmasena?

Already Day 1 and Dharma has 4 decisions overturned :)))

Really got to sort this England top order out. Oh for the days of Strauss-Cook-Trott-KP.....

who was the first captain to open the bowling with both spinners in first or second innings of test match.. dhoni i guess. do u know guys?

Early wickets fall. Stokes, Woakes and Bairstow will drag their total past opponents score for a slender lead. Loop - repeat.

i assume it happened way before dhoni. india used to go into tests with just solkar as the pace option from what i've heard

No, I hope Duckett, Ballance and Vince are in the playing XI when they visit us :D
I also want Zafar and Rashid as their main 2 spinners.

Dharmasena should be kicked out, this is embarrassing. His umpiring status needs to be questioned.
Bangladesh collapsed again, needs a batting coach.
