India [347/9d] beat Bangladesh [106 & 195] by an innings and 46 runs in the 2nd Test

Once again in swinging conditions almost all other indian batsmen failed except Kohli. Agarwal and Rohit properly stat-padded in the home season and will be on the flight to NZ where they'll be walking wickets.

I haven't seen much swing in current on going nz vs eng series, also grounds are too small.
Easy for power hitters like Rohit and Mayank

I haven't seen much swing in current on going nz vs eng series, also grounds are too small.
Easy for power hitters like Rohit and Mayank

It swings early on in NZ but it flattens out completely by end of day 2. Problem is guys like Rohit, KL ,(hopefully not Mayank) are absolute duds against quality swing bowling by likes of Boult and co. and more often than not the scoreline reads 30-3 in 20 overs once again leaving Kohli to do all the hardwork.

Mushfiqur Rahim's 70-ball stay helped Bangladesh push the game into the third day, but with them trailing by 89 runs still, another innings defeat doesn't look far away.

Resuming at an overnight score of 174/3, Virat Kohli, along with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, extended the home team's first innings lead into three figures, before the latter was dismissed to the left arm-spin of Taijul Islam, immediately after completing a stroke-filled fifty.

The skipper meanwhile marched his way onwards to his 27th Test century, and in doing so went past Ricky Ponting's tally of 19 Test hundreds as captain leaving him trailing only Graeme Smith who leads the count with 25. He celebrated the milestone two overs later, hitting four boundaries off Abu Jayed - each towards a different part of the ground to showcase his range, and India eventually headed for lunch in a strong position of 289/4.

The post-lunch session was perhaps the only phase of the game where the visitors managed to show some spark, as they managed to bag five wickets in a span of 11.1 overs before India declared at 347/9. Jadeja (12) misjudged the line and movement and shouldered arms to an incoming delivery from Abu Jayed that hit the top of off, while Kohli middled one off Ebadat Hossain straight to Taijul Islam at long leg.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma fell in a space of ten balls, while Wriddhiman Saha remained unbeaten on 17. Ebadat and Al-Amin Hossain bagged three wickets each for the visitors.

Ishant then returned to cast a repeat of the first innings, removing opener Shadman Islam and skipper Mominul Islam, both for ducks in his first two overs. Bangladesh stood at 7/2 at tea, and slipped further to a precarious 13/4. Mahmudullah joined Mushfiqur Rahim, and the two experienced men showed some grit and intent in the same brief, adding 69 runs in 11.5 overs, before the former limped off the field having pulled a hamstring.

Mushfiqur though continued his merry ways against India and registered his second fifty of the series. Ashwin was deprived of his first wicket of the Test, courtesy a dropped chance off Mehidy Hasan by Ajinkya Rahane in the first slip. It didn't cost India much, as Kohli pouched one in the same position off Ishant two overs later, to give the pacer his fourth scalp.

Umesh returned for his final spell of the day and struck with his third ball, inducing an edge off Taijul which Rahane clung on to. That marked the end of second day's play at the Eden Gardens with Bangladesh stood at 152/6, with Rahim unbeaten on 59.

Somehow even with the annoying BJP son, BCCI under Ganguly kinda makes me glad.. never doubted his love for India.

Can't do worse than Bangladesh.

true. anyway india is going to butcher th am at home. revenge for that close series loss. scoreline seemed flattering but the series was very competitive. Last time England toured in india they lost 4 0. I expect the same.

my 5c's worth takeaways from this and SAF series , Magnifique mayank-and he's a good close in fielder as well..
- the keeping of Wriddhi-'shimply shuperb'-as richie benued would have said-dude is fit as, and he's taken his keeping on another plane...
-Our pace bowling obviously- the lengths, the relentlessness and ruthlessness, the combined hunting- ah heaven - long may it continue....wish list - a left arm quick (please no Khaleel -hope he's played his last match for us-unless he magically adds about 15 k of pace, swings it at pace and tones down the attitude)
& also whilst at it a genuine all rounder...
-The fielding of Che pu....dunno how many noticed -dude has improved his fielding, some of his catches and some of his diving saves were revelational
-jinks batting....he's back....he also dropped a few...maybe he's improve on this as NZ wont be so kind.
-Umesh batting - this was a total blindsider bonus - all in all a useful lower order biffer...
Rohit-dropped some, took a blinder, one or two big daddy innings, always looked a million bucks till he got out...all in all typical Rohit-frankly i dont see him going big in the NZ tests...time for either Gill or shaw...

Congratulations to India. They were clinical.

BD have works to do. They need to find proper Test players.

Good educational tour for Bangladesh team. BD won an odd session here and there. But overall lost many sessions massively. BD has to improve their "session" cricket. You must have a plan for each session and execute it. They are mentally very fragile.

Don't think Bangladesh are going to be back in a while. Atleast for Tests.

Don't think Bangladesh are going to be back in a while. Atleast for Tests.

This series results means nothing. Sure the margin is worse than expected. But their bigger worry should be losing home tests to Zimbabwe / Afghanistan. That is regression. Going from beating England/OZ at home to getting beaten by noob teams even with their main team. Post Rahim this team will be in even more shambles.

Na na na.

You have to first pass through a few useless, meaningless home bilaterals against Windies, Lanka and Australia. :smith

All T20's I suppose. No thanks l'll just follow the Pak -sl, England-nz tests and the Australian summer tests. :smith

I think Bangladesh will soon regress If they don't focus on Grassroots development..they haven't produced a single world class batsman or bowler in all these years..their best and most experienced batsmen still average in the mid 30s which is hardly world class.less said about their bowlers the better..

Same here, I think its age for me unable to take ODI/T20s unless its like a big tournament. Instead of bilaterals atleast triangular or quadrangular series would be better.

I think Shakib's average is getting close to 40. Mushy looked so good until he lasted in the 2nd innings of both tests - cant understand what made him throw his wicket. Mushy is a fighter, but maybe its true he takes a liking to/motivated against only a few oppositions, esp India. Mahmudullah is also better than his showing in this series.

BD should persist with its current young side and look to build the experience by playing around these three BD greats.

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque admitted that his side "could not play as a team" and would take the defeat in the two-Test series against India as a learning experience.

"I think we could not play as a team," Haque said after losing the pink-ball Test by an innings and 46 runs at Eden Gardens on Sunday, 24 November. "There are lots of areas to improve. If we can do that, then we can do well in the upcoming Test matches. I think we failed to make partnerships and paid the price for it. I think we have a lot of things to learn from this series. How to handle this kind of bowling unit and what kind of preparation we need for it.

"As a team, I think everyone will take this lesson and that would help us in the upcoming series. I don't think there was any technical problem. There is no end to improving technically. I think we need to improve tactically.

"If we can learn our lessons, then, hopefully, we can do well in the future. You all know we don't play too many Test matches. We have nearly 10 Test matches next year, and if we can play a lot of Test matches, then we can probably overcome these lackluster performances."

India's pacers were exceptional throughout, and accounted for all the Bangladesh wickets that fell in the second Test. Haque believed that his side should similarly come out of their dependency on spinners and work on promoting the fast bowlers.

"We should come out of spin dependency. I think the pacers did well in the series. When they will be playing regularly at home and away, at that point we can say how much they have improved. If they are given opportunities at home and abroad, then I am sure they will improve.

"The pitches back in Bangladesh are now being made to assist the pacers, unlike those in the past, when they were being tailor-made to suit the spinners. During the last two years, the wickets are changing in the domestic circuit. Every team is playing three to four pace bowlers, and that is why our pace bowlers are coming up."

Bangladesh were without the services of two of their top players, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. The visitors felt their absence, but Haque refused to use that as an excuse for their underperformance in both Tests.

"There is no point making excuses, and I am not putting up any excuses either. We were saying from the start that we are missing them. There were opportunities for those who were available, but we failed to grab it."

Yes I miss ODI tri-series a lot. I don't mind bilateral ODIs too much but teams like Australia don't send full strength teams anymore so that's a bummer.

A bit harsh perhaps considering BD doesn't play tests very often and found themselves against an ATG level attack, SA had worse defeats.
yea honestly I was trying to feel sorry for them but I couldn't lol. Can't wait for England to tour. I expect a drubbing.

Ranatunga had a W/L of 0.63 as a test captain and no memorable wins. Not even close to being the best.

Even Misbah was a better test captain.

I agree with you but he had some memorable victories, won a test match in England, won the test series win in Pakistan, Newzealand.

:)) he better get used to this sort of attention. Here in Norway he can just go for a walk and no one will even stop him for an autograph.

Well he is the most popular Norwegian in India :), probably Scandinavian even. We desis also love famous Westerners, no matter what discipline.

How famous is he in Norway? Not talking about the chess community but as celeb? He has done modelling for G-Star and a famous rap song I think.

Norwegians will take a liking to test cricket I think, seeing how much you love slow TV there :misbah3.

True, he will probably have more fans here than population of Norway.

The pink ball test was well organized, Kolkata put on a show. Ganguly will be in charge for only 9 months last I heard, too short a time period to implement his vision. Who knows who will succeed him and which faction will be pulling the strings from behind, but after COA days I will take anyone.

Magnus is frighteningly good - I am not qualified enough to compare 2800+ GMs ):, but I have played most of the famous games by ATGs, starting from Murphy to Magnus..... may be at his very best few years Fischer was better than Magnus while over a longer period Kasparov kept his domination, otherwise Magnus is simply too good. He is ruthless as a chess player, who’ll do what it’s needed to win or draw a game and of all his qualities, I think strongest is his unique knack of figuring out opponents position play - for this reason alone in fast paced chess, he is almost unbeatable. He is the chess equivalent of a street fighter in a till death fight. At 29, I believe he’ll break almost every legacy of chess and destined to rewrite many histories.
