Bangladesh v Ireland [Super 8s/Match 17] - Updates

Aftab gone. caught behind!

Botha strikes 1st ball!

45/2

Bangladesh teetering a bit here. I hope they don't resort to cowlashing their way out of trouble.

He's used up all of BD's luck and left none for anyone else...

Ashraful playing some sublime strokes here...

77/3

ashraful 24 off 16 balls...

Ashraful with a six over midwicket and a cover drive for four
Bang 77-3 after 16.2 overs

Ireland giving it there all in the field.

wild slog and miss from tamim!

has abit of ganguly to his batting.

The way Tamim is batting I am considering applying for a place in the England team. If standing there and waving your bat about at every ball is what you need to get into an international team then we all have hope.

Cracking shot by tamim down ground for 4.

next ball hes clean bowled! johnston strikes!

93/4 after 20 overs...

Rankin back and seems to have problem with his control here...

Funky chicken time again!

Ashraful hooks and gets caught in deep!

Rankin strikes!

102/5

Ashraful out ct at long leg
Bang 102-5 after 22 overs - need 142 from 28 @ 5

Disgraceful batting by the Bangladeshis! Two absolutely shocking shots by Ashraful and Tamim in such circumstances!

Donkey is getting dressed up at home. surprisingly no runout in last 2 overs
Bang 103-5 after 23 overs

It was only a matter of time, wasn't it.

A swing with the bat after getting out as the Irish WK was passing him behind his back - "Almost killed the wicketkeeper" - Aamir Sohail
Bang 131-6

Bangla 133/6 after 31 overs

111 needed off 19 overs...

Alright atleast if Ireland win this will help our cause.

Ireland < Bangladesh < South Africa < India

Therefore, one can argue we lost a team that could beat India and SA :P

Bashar takes a single off the first ball of the over and Mashraffe Murtaza out ct & b
Bang 134-7

Bangladesh bow down to Ireland.. Well played Ireland.

Well played Bashar.. what a wonderful captaincy !

I've said it so many times that it's starting to lose meaning, but I have NEVER seen a worse captain than Habibul Bashar at any level from Under 12s upwards.

8th wicket gone!

Langford-smith gets his 2nd wicket.

138/8

Rafique gone...

Fantastic catch from Johnston to get rid of Rafique! BD 8-138. Ireland's fielding has been really good today, that one drop catch notwithstanding.

Aritro, to be fair to Bashar though, most of his batsmen played some ordinary shots to get out. I don't think you can blame him for that.

He gifted them a stack of runs during the middle overs by pushing the fielders back when they were clearly uncomfortable against the spinners. A few more fielders in the ring and those overs where they nicked 4 runs from singles could easily have been maidens and it would have changed the complexion of the game completely. This isn't the benefit of hindsight, I was saying the exact same thing while it was happening.

As for our batsmen, you're correct in saying there were a few schoolboyish shots. The fielding, also, looked like something out of the 'how not to' section of the coaching manual. But I won't be letting either of those facts interfere with my shameless scapegoating of Bashar's captaincy. :19:

Good to see BD fans using the Pak-Inzi model of criticism!

Bad news is Bang is about to lose
Good news is Our minnow is about to beat the Indian minnow
WI might be a little worried now as they don't know if Bang got the last bad game out before the good one comes from the pipeline.
#8 $ 50,000
#7 $100,000
#6 $150,000
these 3 are fighting for this most likely with one team may have a chance to look for #5 $$$

Bashar nearly ran Razzak out in that over. BD 8-169 after 40.

Time to administer the final rites.

169-9.

1 wkt to go....

Great win for Ireland, they've showed that they weren't just one game wonders. They've been brilliant all round today with solid batting and superb bowling, striking at all the right times.

Ireland win by 74 runs

congrats ireland they deserve it!

Sub-continental shame is complete! Thank God for Sri Lanka!

Actually, now i am feeling good that Ireland won this match. I hope the selectors KICK Bashar out .. he doesn't deserve to be in the team.

Congrats to Irish fans for wonderful cricket !

All over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Irish win by 74 runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel for BD as I have a soft spot for them and I decided to adopt them as my 2nd team after Aus this tournament, but I'm happy for Ireland too. These guys had to get extended leave from their jobs to play in the S8 and I'm sure they'll be partying in Barbados tonight. They performed the fundamentals right:

- they were patient and disciplined, with no flashy shots at the start and they didn't lose a wicket till after the 25th over
- good hard running between the wickets to put pressure on the BD fielding (though this resulted in a few runouts
- they had a plan for when they would attack and go for the big shots (in the last 10 overs)
- when they were fielding, they were very energised in the inner ring, putting pressure on the BD batsmen

They're a limited team, but they play to the upper limit of their limitations. That's all you can expect from a team - that they play to their best, whatever their best is. They've troubled pretty much all sides they've played in this tournament (aside from OZ and a lesser extent NZ).

Ireland is eligible for test status .

here we go again....

honestly, 8/10 bd wouldve thrashed ireland, and THATS bd. imagine what the other teams would do to them?

they are too tiring. i feel for bd players, as however amatuer irish 'uns are, they have all played country cricket at top class in england. bd haven't.

They have not all played county cricket, maybe two of them have, they are club cricketers.

How is Shahadat bowling at 87-90 MPH, Jayed? His FASTEST ball was at 87 MPH. :)))

you thought he was bowling with his guts out? he was running in like a medium pacer. one match doesnt determine his pace.

i can say shoaib is a 140 kph bowler now if that's what is being implied.
