They have not all played county cricket, maybe two of them have, they are club cricketers.

quite a fair bit of them have. they know how to bat when. in terms of talent they are outweighed considerably by bd but they know how to steadily play; typical english county lesson.

BTW i was being sarcastic in my post.

Anyway Jayed, when i said Akhtar Ayub can bowl 87-88 mph at 18 and will probably be a 90+ bowler when he gets older you rubbished it.

And now your applying that same logic which you rubbished to Shahadat

1. I didn't rubbish that! I implied that he'll never be in Shoaibs range of 95 milers to 100 milers. Shahadat won't either.

Ireland is eligible for test status .

Not quite - they have qualified as a full ODI side now as they beat two Test teams within a year, but Test status is a long way away.

The big problem for Ireland is that they don't have the cricketing infrastructure in their country - I don't know what state their first class structure is in. Their advantage is that their proximity to the UK means that they may have access to the county cricket scene (but I think Irish players would have to take up foreign slots, right?) and teams touring England may be able to take in a couple of Irish games. But unlike Bangladesh and Zim, they probably don't have the player base to become a sustainable force.

right you are. lreland will find it hard to develop players quickly like bd and zim r doing.

Bangladesh are mercurial - one day they will put in an exhilarating performance and beat a team like OZ or SA, then the next they put in a shocker against Ireland. If you look at *average* performances over a period of time, BD's average is probably a bit higher than Ireland's. But while Ireland don't deviate too much from their mean, BD do - there's so much more volatility with BD.

Ireland have a limited game - they don't have the raw talent that BD have, they don't have the Ashrafuls or the Tamims who are really nice to watch, but they have a game plan that maximises their strengths:

- good ground fielding in the inner circle to limit singles
- running between the wickets
- bowling intelligently
- stonewalling for the first 30-odd overs at 3-4rpo and then looking to score at 4-6rpo in the next 20
- maintaining their temperament and discipline and not panicking throughout the 50 overs

They haven't been flashy, and often their best hasn't been good enough, but they've performed at that consistent level throughout their matches (aside from against OZ where they had a forgettable match). I think they've gradually gotten better as the tournament's worn on as well.

Yo, if Syed Rasel came in, it wouldve been a very different story. Ireland would've scored atleast 80 runs less, because Rasel ALWAYs breaks opening partnerships with ease. Shahadat gave alot of runs which were not nessecary. Rasel keeps it tight.

One thing you forgot which would take away the credibility of some of your points are that-

bd have only two players above 25.

very immature with 17 year olds.

get temperament down and play with a 'cool' head and don't get high or flashy; stick to the basics and ireland don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as bd.

Excellent analysis that.

Bangladesh has improved well. One of the reason their recent upsets could be attributed to the surprise factor as they are playing these big sides after a long long time. Their real test was against Ireland. They were exposed very badly by thorough professional performance from Irish. Their real improvement will be found out in the Test series against India. One dayers you can chip in a victory here and there. Kenya also did that against Srilanka last world cup. But their real class will be found out in Tests.

Ashraful has played close to 100 one dayers. Look at the shots he plays. Ridiculous. One shot where he decided to guide the ball to slips all of a sudden takes the cake! Their growth is not progressive. It is going in all different directions. Probably they need to find their own role models Just like srilanka had. Srilanka had someone like Roy Dias later on Aravinda. Age is not an excuse. Sakib is only 20. He is more matured than Ashraful. Harnessing their potential is very very difficult. As long as you don't get exposed to international teams too much you can surprise them. But once if you get exposed a lot, teams will start targetting your weaknesses which Bangladesh team has in plenty.

If you ask me to pick one world class performer from BD in one dayers then it would be Mortaza. Saqib is on his way to becoming a good batsman. Rest of them have some distance to go in terms of temperament, consistency including Ashraful. But with proper guidance they can become a decent unit. Rightnow BD fans should stop expecting too much and indulge in effigy burning. They have caused two huge upsets which is highly creditable considering the experience of India and SA. They should use India series as a platform to make a strong statement, especially in Tests.
