The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday announced the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the period from October 2020 to September 2021.

As per a BCCI press release, the payment structures has been divided into four categories with Grade A+ contract earning players ₹7 crore, Grade A earning players ₹5 crore, Grade B earning players ₹3 crore, and Grade C earning players ₹1 crore for the aforementioned time period.

A total of 28 cricketers were awarded central contracts in four categories. India captain Virat Kohli, vice-captain Rohit Sharma, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah were retained in the A+ category list.

Meanwhile, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya were all placed under Grade A contract.

Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, pacers Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshar Kumar, and Shardul Thakur and opening batsman Mayank Agarwal were all placed under Grade B contract.

Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sudnar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Siraj were all placed under Group C. Allrounder Kedar Jadhav was not awarded a central contract this time.

So Prithvi Shaw doesn't have a contract. Tough road ahead for him despite the domestic exploits. Rahane getting an A contract is a joke. He will keep milking that occasional score in every series for another 5 years I guess.

Surprised that Deepak Chahar got a contract but Natarajan and Prasidh Krishna weren't offered one.

I think BCCI is looking after test specialists. I am happy to see Pujara too in A category.

Gill deserves better than C. Siraj also should be in B now. Rest looks fine.

Pandya is highly integral part of Indian team and there is no proper replacement option for him. We have replacements for everyone. Hence, Pandya should also be in A+ in my opinion. :inti

He would have been if he played a part in AUS, Eng tests

So when you add match fees, bonuses and IPL contracts ,.most make more than 1 mil USD

Kuldeep just managed to scrape a contract.

However, one must agree that India compensates their players quite well for their services.

A and A+ looked decked with quality :money

Surprised Bhuvi finds himself in the B tier.

C look tasty with those youngsta beauties ha ha.

They should flatten the salaries a bit. Not fair and also doesn't make for good team spirit for some players to get 7 times some other players.

7, 5, 3 and 1 seems like some unimaginative bureaucrat's contribution to arithmetic progressions in the world.

Also R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara should all be A+.

Bhuvi would've been in A group if he didn't injured every now and then.. Pandya didn't do well enough to get A contract..

So an A+ contract is roughly 1M USD for 12 month?

ECB Central contract for Test and White ball is around £850K for 12 months - so roughly about the same.

I thought BCCI was paying more especially considering the revenue generated from media rights, including the IPL.

And yes, I know players make more money through endorsements and IPL.

A real joke to have Pandya in A category. He plays just LoIs, hardly bowls and is still in category A, same as Ashwin and Pant?

What a joke by BCCI and I thought Ganguly would be a worthy BCCI head!

We are still a poor country. But overall payment structure of professional players involved in domestic cricket has improved a lot. To an extent they can fully focus on their game and earn a very good living for their family. Obviously you can't compare it with County and Shefield shield. Those are first world countries with 20-25 times per capita income.

Bumrah also I guess must be walking on thin ice. Missing every second game on one pretext or the other, getting married during India's games but not during IPL, all in all extremely poor last few months for him as our premier bowler.

Shaw deserved to be in C at least. Gill should be in B. Siraj also should have been in B.

BCCI is richest board yet it is paying its top players only 7 crores per year?. Their board is very greedy.

You are missing the fact that BCCI is supporting the entire cricketing infrastructure in India including salaries for active cricketers and support staff plus monies paid to retired folks. For a change, cricket is a career now in India even if you don't get to wear the national colors.

What you described is more apt for PCB

Do you know even if you have played for India for an example in 50’s, you get pension from BCCI? How many boards can claim that?

Still we are happy with our board, and the way it's managing whole nation's cricket.
Domestic player's salary, state boards, pension to retired players even if they didn't play too many matches for India.
Salary of Ravi Shashtri and Arun is almost equal to top players.
On top of that BCCI have to give amount equal to IPL salary if central contracted player gets injured while representing India. Like Shreyas iyer will get whole 7cr IPL2021 salary from BCCI since he was injured in Ind-Eng series.

It's field where youngsters can plan a career now, and most of them won't have to depend on YouTube channels after retirement.

Looks like you have forgotten your own invented formula of giving importance to each player based on the format. Let me remind you again

Tests - 60%
ODIs - 30%
T20s - 10%

Now please tell me what has Pandya done in that 60% category? I mean even Pant is representing India in all 3 formats and has some good innings to his name and he deserves to be in A category currently. Same with Ashwin, Ishant and Pujara. They all deserve A category. You must be on something which we can't see here. :inti

Is he playing every match in IPL now? I used to like him as a bowler but lately have lost respect for him. I also used to be extra cautious of him as a bowler and didn't want him to get injured before important tours like Aus/Eng but since he himself doesn't look interested in playing every international match for India it is becoming hard to like him as a bowler. :inti

On top of this players get match fees, part of sponsorship money etc.

And 15 per cent of the total revenue of BCCI is divided amongst the players.

1 million USD in India vs 1 million USD in eng. That is some difference.

He is. Same goes for last year's IPL as well. He missed so many international games for us but not a single IPL game, IIRC. Shows how much he values India cap vis-a-vis his IPL jersey!

I've nothing against IPL, that is making players financially secure considering they've such a short shelf life but this is downright pathetic by Bumrah.

I used to be his great fan but he has only flattered to deceive of late in international cricket by being either hit or miss, or missing international games at will.

Well if he is not going to play match after match in international cricket, his rhythm will suffer and it will reflect in his bowling performance. :inti
