The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year.

The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL.
The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The talks of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign being moved to the UAE have been afloat for a while and now the same has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla.

The IPL Season 14 had come to a halt after 29 games were played in the campaign due to Covid-19 cases within the league. It has also been confirmed that the season will resume from the third week of September.

Reports had earlier suggested a possible restart from September 19 or 20 but the dates haven't been confirmed yet though Shukla told Times Now that the tournament is likely to resume in the third week of September. The BCCI Special General Meeting was scheduled for today (May 29) in Mumbai where the talks over the remaining IPL 2021 season and the T20 World Cup were held.

"There have been talks with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and they are happy to host the remaining IPL in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi like last time. The BCCI will now speak to the foreign boards to decide on the availability of the foreign players. While the Australian players may be available, there are some questions over the availability of the England and New Zealand players, we will see how that works out. We are looking at a 25-day window and that is on," an ANI source said.

About the T20 World Cup that is to be held this year, Rajeev Shukla told Times Now that the board will ask ICC to give them more time over finalising the venue as the Covid-19 situation is still developing in the country. The BCCI has asked the ICC to give them one month's time to take a call on the venue for the showpiece event.

"There is still close to four and a half months and we are confident things will change in that space of time with respect to COVID-19. The BCCI will request the ICC for time till the end of June or the start of July to take a final call on the matter," the source explained to ANI.

Well that’s a shame. I was hoping for IPL to save the counties this year through it’s generosity by hosting it in England.

Looks like the counties are doomed now!
 
If they have arranged the dates, I'm sure we will see a majority of the overseas available.

Here we go again. Arrogance is back with a bang especially from someone who calls himself a test purist and claimed that he was the first one who said IPL shouldn't happen this year and title should be awarded to the top team when the tournament stopped earlier this month.

Also IPL will never take over international cricket because it needs these same international stars to run its business. Not sure how hard is it to understand this simple thing. :inti

A statement from Cricket Australia suggests that Cricket Australia may see the remaining of IPL 2021 as ideal preparation for some players ahead of the T20 World Cup.
 
The BCCI will send a delegation to UAE which will also involve senior management officials so that they can safely arrange for the IPL.

It is no longer a question of 'will'. It already happened when Rabada and five other South African international players disrespected the Pakistan national cricket team by leaving the tour mid-way and joined IPL even though IPL could have been easily given a miss this year by referring "COVID concerns" as a reason for this.

I assume it is more of arrogance and delusion from your part which is why you can't come to terms with facts and reality. Rabada and five other SA players leaving the international T20 series for IPL is not my opinion but a factual statement.

Think players will continue to choose IPL over their national team if international cricket is scheduled in official IPL window (Apr-May). South African board knew it very well and yet hosted country matches at that time. So players were well within their right to play for their franchises.

But if IPL is hosted outside its official window, players are obliged to play for their country. A case for Eng players not allowed to play in IPL during Sept-Oct as they have international committments. I think its totally fair as it balances things out.

If IPL wants it can ofcourse hijack the international calendar but dont think it should happen IPL should not tamper with international calendar outside its window and vice versa i.e no international cricket during Apr-May.

I dont see any attempt by IPL to hijack anything. The original window was respected by all and that is fine. Its perfectly reasonable for teams to chose their own national interest in other windows and IPL/BCCI know that.

I don't think there is any danger of that at all. International cricket will keep happening. Only thing is, if it happens during an ongoing IPL season, players for some countries may recuse themselves and give priority to their IPL contracts.

I am sure lot of the boards will also be happy to let the players go. Because they get money on both hands. From the international series (if they are hosting one) as well as cut from the IPL.

In fact this is/has already happened with the SA-Pak series.
 
I guess CPL will cave in to any demands from the IPl.

Main reason being Boards also make money from such deals that players get.

BCCI will put a request to West Indies Cricket Board to prepone CPL 2021 by a week to 10 days.
 
Best prepration for WT20 as most likely WT20 will happen in UAE.but i'm worried about pitches .
 
Let me be very clear, without international cricket there is no one who is going to watch cricket except Indians and when they will have no one to compete with internationally, the game will die its death at the hands of BCCI and its champus. Indians need for validation wont be satiated if Delhi beats Mumbai, wheres the international recognition? All what they do is to show case to the world that they have "arrived".

I for one think Indians over-estimate their power and say in global cricket. There is a limit to everything and IPL is not the golden goose for international cricket but ONLY for BCCI. If BCCI decides to cross the line, they will be shown their aukat.

Theres a limit like i said, once BCCI crosses the line and puts international cricket in danger (and hence putting the revenue of these boards in danger) they will be taken to the cleaners. BCCI unlike its jingo champus is smart and knows where the line is.
 
Too much money at stake for it to get cancelled. Since they played in UAE last autumn, makes sense that they would do it again this time.

Must have chosen the window where overseas superstars will be available, therefore the international calendar will very likely be disrupted.
 
Cricket Australia will have to weigh up whether to allow its top cricketers to return to the Indian Premier League in September after the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the Twenty20 tournament will resume in the United Arab Emirates.

But there appears some doubt about the Twenty20 World Cup going ahead from mid-October, certainly in India, after the BCCI said in a statement it had sought an extension from the International Cricket Council.

“The decision was taken at a special general meeting held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL,” the BCCI statement read.

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the office bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.”

The IPL was suspended at its mid-point this month because of an escalation in the number of positive coronavirus cases while matches were being held in Ahmedabad and Delhi. Australian coach Mike Hussey was one of at least seven players or coaches to test positive.

Almost 40 Australian cricketers, support staff and broadcasters have been in hotel quarantine in Sydney and were due to leave this weekend, having arrived home on a charter flight.

The Australians have a short tour of the Caribbean from late June and, ahead of the expected T20 World Cup and a home summer featuring a Test against Afghanistan and an Ashes series, CA will need to decide whether it’s in the best mental health interests of its players to spend even more time in a bio-secure bubble.

There are still 31 matches to be played in the IPL, which last season was held in the UAE. However, CA could decide the IPL will ensure players are fine-tuned for the World Cup, which could also be held in the UAE. Skipper Aaron Finch and fast bowler Mitchell Starc are among those without an IPL contract.

David Warner and Pat Cummins could be rested from the West Indies tour because of family reasons - others could follow after a draining year in several bubbles - and Cummins, despite a multimillion-dollar IPL contract, has already said he will not return to the T20 tournament this season.

The Australians could also have a short tour of Bangladesh in August but that has not been confirmed. However, the Bangladesh board is planning for five Twenty20 matches.

Rabada and others leaving International Cricket for IPL has nothing to do with the quality of cricket hence it can never take over international cricket. You are delusional if you really think that. I didn't got your point here.

Anyways since you asked, Rabada became a star in 2016 when he won his team a test series in Australia and was their leading wicket taker. Moreover, he became a superstar in 2018 when he outperformed the Aussies bowlers (bowling with tampered bowl) and helped his team win their first ever home series vs Australia.

Rest are not as relevant but still stars in their own right.

IPL happens only two months in a year. Obviously, he can play international cricket for rest of the year. Indian players also do the same, lol.

But ultimately the point is if international T20 matches and IPL both happens at same time, will Rabada and five other SA players give IPL a miss? You have the answer.

The biggest takeaway from the BCCI’s AGM meeting on Saturday was a confirmation that the IPL 2021, which was suspended indefinitely earlier this month, its remaining matches would be contested in the UAE. Although no official dates have been announced, for the second year in a row, the IPL will be played in the UAE.

The decision to move the tournament outside of India was explained by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who revealed that the call was taken due to weather restrictions. The BCCI is targeting a tentative window of September end to mid of October to conduct the remainder of the IPL, and the month of September witnesses a considerable amount of rainfall in the country.

"See we took this decision to conduct IPL in the UAE because it will be monsoon here and it will not be feasible to hold matches here in September and that is why we are taking IPL to the UAE," Shah told ANI.

'Kohli will be highest run-getter in England series,' says former England bowler

"We are moving IPL to the UAE only due to weather restrictions as we cannot hold IPL here at the time of monsoon. How can we hold IPL in September in Mumbai or Ahmedabad or any other venues at the time of monsoon? It doesn't make any sense."

The BCCI did not take a decision on the fate of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which is scheduled to be held in India later this year. Due to the situation of Covid in the country, India could be in danger of losing the hosting rights to the T20 WC with the UAE once again being a strong candidate to stage the ICC event. Shah, however, said that a concrete decision would only be taken after a discussion with the ICC.

"And as far as the T20 world Cup is concerned, we will seek time from ICC and decide later. As of now, we are in the mind frame of holding tournaments in the safe zone and we will see how the situation is in the upcoming days. The only thing I can say for now is to seek time from ICC and decide accordingly," Shah added.

Kolkata Knight Riders player to let go of his million-dollar contract, will skip 2nd phase of IPL 2021: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (May 29) confirmed shifting the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 to UAE. The IPL 2021 was suspended earlier this month due to 6 COVID-19 cases in different camps. The board was confident of resuming the league later and thus decided to postpone it.

The remaining 31 matches of the tournament will be played in the month of September-October. The availability of foreign players will be one of the biggest headaches as a few national teams have a packed schedule going ahead. The franchises will likely be allowed to pick replacements for the players who will pull out.

While English players are confirmed to skip the league, it has also been reported that Kolkata Knight Riders' pacer Pat Cummins will also give the tournament a miss. As per the Sydney Morning Herald, Cummins has already said that he will not return to IPL 2021
The Australia pacer had created history in IPL 2020 auction by bagging a contract worth Rs 15.5 crore. It was the biggest bid drawn by any overseas player in the history of the league then (the record was broken by Chris Morris in IPL 2021 auction).

Cummins didn't have a great run in IPL 2020 last year as he scalped 12 wickets, 4 in the last league stage game, in 14 matches. In IPL 2021, he had dismissed 9 batsmen and scored 93 runs in 7 matches before the tournament was suspended.

The BCCI is trying to convince Cricket West Indies to advance the start of the Caribbean Premier League by a week or 10 days to ensure a seamless bubble-to-bubble transfer of players for the IPL's resumption in the UAE come September.

Suspended midway into its 14th season owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI on Saturday approved the resumption of the lucrative Indian Premier League in the UAE in the middle of September.

The CPL is scheduled to get underway from August 28 with the final to be played on September 19, while the remaining part of IPL is likely to be held from September 18 to October 10, not leaving the players with any time to settle down.

"We are in talks with Cricket West Indies. We are hoping that if CPL can be finished a few days in advance, it would help in bubble to bubble transfer of all players to Dubai and in time to complete the mandatory three-day quarantine," a BCCI source, privy to the development, told PTI on Sunday.

If the BCCI and CWI fail to reach an agreement over dates, some of the biggest players could miss the initial few matches or may be the first half of the IPL.

The big names involved in both the T20 leagues are Mumbai Indians' five-time IPL-winning influential all-rounder Kieron Pollard, the swashbuckling Chris Gayle, seasoned all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran, Fabien Allen, Sunil Narine and Trinidad and Tobago coach Brendon McCullum, who is also at the helm of affairs in Kolkata Knight Riders.

The upcoming edition will be the CPL's ninth season and will feature some of the format's biggest superstars from across the world.

The IPL's resumption was approved during the BCCI's SGM on Saturday, less than a month after the league was suspended because of COVID-19 cases in its bio-bubble.

Most boards make most money when BCCI tours. Infact even ECB or CA make money only via Ashes or India tours.

So boards may be willing to sacrifice less profitable tours if BCCI offers them couple of extra matches when they tour.

BCCI is the money printing machine.

“I am already here. Now a team of BCCI office-bearers, president (Sourav Ganguly), secretary (Jay Shah) and the IPL chairman (Brijesh Patel) will be coming here in a couple of days,” Shukla told Khaleej Times.

“We will be having discussions with the cricket board here and the other authorities. And accordingly the schedule will be made, so the tournament happens in a very smooth manner as it happened here last year,” said Shukla.

Shukla informed that the decision to invite spectators for the matches, lies in the hands of the Emirates Cricket Board. For now, 29 matches of the IPL 2021 are done, and 31 matches remain now.

“The only issue is about the spectators, whether they will allow the spectators or not. So we will talk to them about that. We will go by whatever UAE authorities decide,” Shukla said.

“If they say it’s with spectators, and certain percentage of spectators, we are fine. Or if they say without spectators, that is also fine with us. There is no problem.”

The IPL is expected to begin on September 18, four days after India’s Test series in England gets over. While the same bio-bubble will be used for IPL, some of the foreign stars are expected to miss the tournament.

“We have discussed that (foreign players) issue also. Our main focus is on completing this edition of the IPL. It should not be left halfway through. So whichever foreign players are available is fine. Whoever is not available, it is not going to stop us from hosting the tournament,” Shukla said.

“The Indian players are there, foreign players are there, but few foreign players will not be available. As I said, we have to complete our tournament.

“So the franchises will definitely look for other players. Whoever is available, we are going to have the tournament with them. That’s our policy.”

He also said that the players will be vaccinated before the tournament starts. “Whatever, Covid protocols (on vaccination) are required, we will be following those protocols, the Indian protocols as well as the UAE protocols,” Shukla said.

Also, the franchises are happy with the way things are being planned. “They are all very happy. From day one, they have been backing the UAE. There were some media reports about England (hosting the remaining matches), but there’s a weather problem in England where it rains a lot,” he said.

“Also, we have got about 20 days to complete the tournament. Even if we start on September 19, by the 10th of October we have to finish it. Then there’s a T20 World Cup (October-November) also. So keeping the weather in mind and the top-class facilities, the UAE was the best option.”

He also made a big revelation about the T20 World Cup. “That issue also has been deliberated. Our first choice is India. So we will be seeking some time from the ICC, a month or so, to decide about it,” said Shukla.

“If towards the end of June or maybe, the first week of July, the situation is not good there (India), then obviously it (T20 World Cup) will come to the UAE.

“If the situation improves (in India) and we are able to host it, then we will be hosting there (in India).”

It is learned that the Indian board can conduct the tournament from September 19 to October 10 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), just before the ICC T20 World Cup.

After the BCCI SGM recently, it was announced that the IPL 2021 would be held in September-October window, in the UAE, but the dates for the tournament are still not announced. But according to a report in InsideSport.com the IPL is supposed to restart on September 17, and the final will be played on October 10.

But there is a lot of work to be done in this regard. These dates will be clashing with the CPL 2021 — August 28 to September 19 — and the BCCI wants its dates to be advanced by 7-10 days, so that all the players in the league can take part in the IPL as well. The BCCI will put in a request to the Caribbean board, according to the report.

“We will speak to all the boards about the availability of their players. We will also speak to Cricket West Indies, we always had a great relationship with everyone and we are confident some solution will come out in the next few days”, said one of the top BCCI officials.

Meanwhile the revised schedule for IPL 2021 will be announced in the next 10 days. Keeping in mind the international schedule it will be difficult for some other players as well to make it to the IPL 2021.

Australia will be busy with tour of Bangladesh, New Zealand will play series against Bangladesh and Pakistan, England too will play Bangladesh and Pakistan. Pakistan also has a scheduled series with Afghanistan during the IPL.

But on Sunday, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla suggested that IPL could begin on September 19. He also made it clear that the IPL will go forward if the foreign stars are not available.

“We have got about 20 days to complete the tournament. Even if we start on September 19, by the 10th of October we have to finish it.”

“We have discussed that (foreign players) issue also. Our main focus is on completing this edition of the IPL. It should not be left halfway through. So whichever foreign players are available is fine. Whoever is not available, it is not going to stop us from hosting the tournament,” Shukla said.

“The Indian players are there, foreign players are there, but few foreign players will not be available. As I said, we have to complete our tournament.

“So the franchises will definitely look for other players. Whoever is available, we are going to have the tournament with them. That’s our policy.”

Cricket Australia is yet to take a call on whether to allow its players to be part of IPL 2021 when it resumes in UAE. Last week, the BCCI announced that the remainder of the T20 tournament will be played in UAE due to the monsoon in India during September-October.

IPL was suspended in the first of week of May after growing cases of coronavirus among players and support staff. However, now plans are afoot to complete the season outside India.

The packed international calendar and the prospect of shifting bio-bubbles accompanied by long time away from family are among the various factors that could lead up to a final decision. However, as of now, CA isn’t worried as it wants its returning IPL players to reunite with their families and then start preparations for the West Indies tour.

“Once we get back together as a group that [the IPL] is something we’ll obviously need to discuss,” Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia’s chief executive, said on Monday. “Our players returning from the IPL have only today come out of quarantine, so our first priority is to make sure they are reunited with their families…we [then] have a tour to prepare for in the West Indies.”

Australia had named a preliminary squad of 23 members for the Caribbean tour. However, there are reports that the likes of David Warner and Pat Cummins may opt out of it.

Warner, Cummins, Steve Smith are among the Australian contingent who on Monday returned to their families after completing mandatory quarantine since returning from IPL 2021.

“They are clearly quite shaken by the experience, and are very appreciative to be back home, very much looking forward to being reunited with family and friends today,” Hockley said. “It’s a couple of weeks before the West Indies touring party then regroups at the National Cricket Centre [in Brisbane] and then that’s the time to refocus.”

They can't expect players from all countries to be available throughout the year. IPL got it's unofficial window once again this year and they messed it up. Once again other cricket fans have to suffer because of BCCI and their greed. :inti
 
I genuinely dont understand what the issue is. Just like PSL is completing their remaining matches, IPL is doing the same. Its not that IPL is asking for a seperate window in September. All they are saying is the remaining games of IPL will be played in Dubai (just like PSL) and players who are free can participate. No pressure tactics on any board or nothing. Yes I am aware they have requested CPL to advance their league by few days but then again WICB is free to reject it.

What is the issue here? It appears to me some people have phobia to the name IPL and made it a profession to criticize it every time.
 
The BCCI brass is exploring the option of using the full window of Indian Premier League by pushing the final back to October 15 in order to reduce the number of double headers in the UAE’s searing September heat.

As PTI had first reported, the tournament will start on Sunday, September 19 and while the final was tentatively planned for October 10, the BCCI as well as the Emirates Cricket Board are mulling stretching the lucrative T20 event till October 15.

“September 15 to October 15 is the window. Initially, BCCI was thinking of having 10 double headers. But, in third and fourth week of September, having 10 afternoon matches can be physically exhausting for player in such short window,” a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

“So if October 15, which is a Friday is zeroed in on, it’s basically start of weekend in India and in DUbai, it’s a holiday which will allow fans to come in and enjoy a high-profile game of cricket. It serves dual purpose. Also, the number of double headers could be reduced to five or six, instead of 10,” the source said.

Currently, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, vice-president Rajiv Shukla, acting CEO Hemang Amin, treasurer Arun Dhumal, joint secretary Jayesh George and IPL chairman Brijesh Patel are in the UAE to finalise the arrangements.

Secretary Jay Shah is back in India after a series of meetings with the Emirates Cricket Board officials and a recce of the venues.

The Indian team’s last Test in England is in Manchester and if it goes the distance, then it will finish on September 14. The next day, the Indian contingent of IPL players will be flown via a charter flight from Manchester to Dubai.

They might have to undergo a three-day hard quarantine in the UAE but that could be waived off since they will be entering from the UK bio-bubble.

Australia's limited overs skipper Aaron Finch believes it would be difficult for players who have pulled out of the white ball tours of West Indies and Bangladesh to justify returning to finish off the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The IPL was suspended last month after several players and backroom staff tested positive for COVID-19 but the Indian Cricket board plans to complete the lucrative tournament in the United Arab Emirates in September and October.

Pat Cummins, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell were among seven players with IPL contracts who have decided not to go on back-to-back tours of the Caribbean and Bangladesh in July and August, while Steve Smith will miss the trips through injury.

"This is only my personal opinion but I think they would find it hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL," Finch told former test Adam Gilchrist on a Perth radio station.

"Just purely based on the workload coming up with a T20 World Cup and a huge home summer.

"It's a tough situation that everyone has been put in, but personally I would find it hard to do that knowing how difficult it is and how challenging it is mentally, and on your family as well. That's what I would think."

Australia's chief selector Trevor Hohns made it clear this week that players were expected to put national duties ahead of the IPL, especially with the Twenty20 World Cup scheduled for October and November.

Finch, who did not play in the IPL, said the players who had decided not to go on tour might find their places in the squad for the T20 World Cup under threat from their replacements.

"The guys who aren't there have probably left the door slightly ajar," Finch added.

"What that looks like when the T20 World Cup comes around, we'll have to wait and see."

The latter will start on October 1. While rising prices of the rooms will be one issue, the larger problem for the teams will be to create a bio-secure bubble, where people from all across the globe will come for the Expo.

The Covid-19 situation in the country has led to a further delay in the franchises making the logistical arrangements, and the deals are yet to be finalised. Speaking to ANI, a franchise official said that they were looking to go to the UAE as soon as they get a clearence from the BCCI and they would finalise the deals via video calls itself.

“We are yet to get the go-ahead from the BCCI and it is understandable with an eye on the Covid-19 situation. What we do understand is that we will get clarity from the board on the plan ahead around July 15. After that we could be free to travel.

“But looking at how the Covid-19 situation is always changing, we might look at video calls to complete the bookings. We need to keep in mind the Dubai Expo and how it might make it difficult to get bulk roooms with every passing day."

Another official spoke in the same light and said that it might be difficult to get the rooms. “We have the Dubai Expo starting from October 1. Getting hotel rooms that are isolated from the rest of the guests staying a hotel can be a real challenge. It isn’t the same as last time as because of the tourists coming to the UAE last time was minimal as compared to what is expected for the Expo. The sooner we can close the deal, the better because once we have locked the rooms, we have to play the bubble which needs to be foolproof."

The 2nd phase of the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will kick off with Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 19, the BCCI announced on Sunday (July 25). The original schedule has been altered as they were scheduled to face for the 2nd time in the 47th game of the season. The IPL 2021 was suspended after 29 completed matches.

The final of the tournament will be played on October 15. The first Qualifier will be played on October 10 and will be followed by Eliminator on October 11.

The 2nd Qualifier of the season will take place on October 13. After a break of a day, the winner of the first Qualifier and second Qualifier will square off in the final. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are three venues that will be hosting the event, the report adds.

MI and CSK had squared off once, on May 1, before the season was suspended. MI rode on Kieron Pollard's 87* off 34 to chase down 219.

With 6 wins from 8 matches, Delhi Capitals sit at the top spot in the points table. They are followed by Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Riders Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Indian Test players are in England and will fly to UAE directly from the UK. The India-England Test series ends on September 14.

The evening matches of the season will start at 7:30 PM IST while the afternoon matches will kick off at 3:30 PM IST.

A number of international players are likely to skip the season due to international commitments. The England Cricket Board has already confirmed that it won't allow its players to skip the international season while Kolkata Knight Riders' Pat Cummins has reportedly pulled out of the season.

None of the international players competing in the IPL will have to serve quarantine but the franchise members and families could face punishment if there is a “bubble breach", according to the health and safety protocols released by the BCCI ahead of the T20 tournament which will resume next month at the UAE. The remaining matches of the Indian Premier League, which was suspended in April after multiple bio bubble breach, will now take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19 with the Chennai Super Kings taking on defending champions Mumbai Indians.

“Breach of any Bio-Secure Environment protocols by franchise members or their families will be subject to disciplinary action by the BCCI," the governing body said in its Health and Safety protocols, a copy of which is in possession of PTI.

The IPL will see participation of players from across the globe, including from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh, among others.

According to the protocols, “All franchise team members must undergo a COVID-19 RT-PCR test, 72 hours before their scheduled flight … All individuals must quarantine themselves and avoid contact with others after the RT-PCR test.

“All members whose RT-PCR test result is negative may travel to the franchise’s city of choice," it stated, which means that there is no quarantine for international players.

The document also said, “depending on the country of flight departure, all international passengers arriving at Dubai airport are required to display a negative RT-PCR test report for sample taken between 48-72 hours before their scheduled flight.

“For passengers arriving from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan, it is mandatory that the COVID-19 PCR report includes a QR code linked to the original report for verification process," it added.

The document also laid down the process which the “franchise team members and their families would undertake" for “entering and remaining within the Bubble."

“They may only leave the Bubble in unavoidable circumstances. However, for unscheduled visits prior permission must be sought from the BCCI Chief Medical Officer before leaving the Bubble.

“Re-entry to the Bubble is only permitted after completing 6 full days quarantine and confirmation that all 3 results of the RT-PCR tests for samples collected on day 2,4 and 6 are negative," stated the protocols.

It also outlined what needs to be done in case anyone has to visit a hospital for any investigation.

“In exceptional circumstances, if members within a bubble are required to visit a hospital for investigation and/or treatment, green corridors will be created to avoid close contact with any individuals who are outside their Bio-Secure Bubbles," it said.

“(A) team member and accompanying team staff must wear PPE and sanitise their hands frequently during hospital visits. In the interest of the health and safety of the other members of the team, all members must follow the prescribed guidelines in this Health and Safety document to maintain the sanctity of the Bio-Secure environment."

The document also explained in detail the measures that need to be followed by the players, support staff, BCCI officials, ground staff, the vendors and rules related to Bubble-to-Bubble transfer and instructions about pre-IPL preparatory camps.

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to do away with contact tracing devices for the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League, starting on September 19. The Indian board has decided that Bubble Integrity Officers will do the necessary contact tracing if any player tests positive for COVID-19 in UAE.

Speaking to ANI, sources in the know of developments said it was a call taken considering how constantly feeding information into the Bluetooth devices can get cumbersome at times. Also, there were some cases of the device not functioning properly during the India leg of the league earlier this year.

"The BCCI has decided to do away with the idea of wearing contact tracing bands as not only is it sometimes difficult to feed information for sportspersons during the course of a tournament, but also, we had a few instances earlier this year when the devices couldn't catch the movement of the players and the fact that they had left a certain location wasn't updated and players and support staff realised this much later.

"As a result, it has been decided that the Bubble Integrity Officers present with the teams will keep a track of the movements and act accordingly if there is a case that comes up during the course of the tournament. There will be 4 integrity officers with each team and will work in shifts to help with this," the source explained.

The board has come up with a 46-page health advisory that lays down all the pointers that everyone associated with the IPL needs to follow in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the league.

All franchises will have to quarantine for six days before being able to enter the bio-bubble. The board has decided to set up 14 bio-bubbles and out of these 14, eight would belong to franchises.

"Within the Bio-Secure Environment, 14 bubbles will be created as mentioned below: Franchise teams and support staff - 8 Bubble, Match Officials & Match Management Team - 3 Bubbles, Broadcast Commentators and crew - 3 Bubbles."

"All franchise team members must quarantine in their hotel room for 6 full days before entering the bubble. Upon arrival and before commencing any group training activities, all team members who will be included in the bubble will follow the below-mentioned COVID-19 RT-PCR testing plan. A nasopharyngeal swab will be taken for testing. Test reports are available within 8-12 hours after sample collection," states the health advisory.

The board has also laid down strict instructions that everyone in the bubble must travel through dedicated vehicles only and everyone has been asked to follow this guideline to the core.

Just like last year, the BCCI has given go-ahead for bubble-to-bubble transfer hence the players coming from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), will be able to enter the IPL bubble straight away.

Australia's T20 side slumped to 4-1 series defeats against West Indies and Bangladesh in slow and low conditions on a winter tour missing a host of first-choice players, and the former captain said the results underlined the current lack of depth in Australian cricket.

Pat Cummins, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson and Daniel Sams all opted out of the winter tours, and none of that eight have played since the IPL was halted in Covid-ravaged India in May.

"Those guys that haven't played for three or four months now, they need to get back into the groove of playing high-quality cricket against the best players in the world," Ponting said on SEN radio in conversation with Australia Test captain Tim Paine, who also endorsed the players going to the IPL.

"No doubt it's their best preparation to be in those exact conditions, playing in probably the strongest domestic T20 tournament in the world.

"All the best players in the world will be there … and I'm not just saying it because I want some of the Australian players there at the Delhi Capitals."

Mooted plans for a T20 tri-series with Afghanistan and West Indies that was to serve as crucial World Cup preparation are in limbo. Originally planned to be played in India before the T20 World Cup was moved away from their due to their coronavirus issues, the tri-series is now unlikely to go ahead.

The IPL will squeeze its remaining 31 games into 27 days between September 19 and October 15. Australia's men's domestic summer is due to begin with a Marsh One-Day Cup game on September 11, meaning any players heading to the IPL, and subsequent T20 World Cup will not feature at home before the Test summer begins against Afghanistan from November 27.

Smith missed the Caribbean and Bangladesh tours with a left elbow injury, and previously said he would prioritise the Ashes over the T20 World Cup.

Cricket Australia has cleared the way for the country's leading players to return to the rescheduled Indian Premier League in the UAE starting next month ahead of the T20 World Cup.

CA has issued No Objection Certificates for the players to return to the IPL next month, while a planned T20 tri-series with Afghanistan and West Indies may be re-purposed as (T20) World Cup warm-ups, according to a report in cricket.au.com.

This year's IPL was halted in May after an outbreak of COVID-19 in India, and about 40 Australian players, coaches, broadcasters and support staff had to spend time in Maldives while international borders were shut, before eventually returning home via a charter flight provided by the BCCI.

The IPL has since been rescheduled to complete the remaining 36 games in 27 days between September 19 and October 15 in the UAE, finishing just two days before the T20 World Cup begins, which has also been relocated to the region from India.

CA's clearance came after the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the postponement of a three-match ODI series between the two nations originally planned to be held in India in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, the report said.

A mooted T20 tri-series also involving the West Indies was due to form an important part of the World Cup preparations for all three squads, and Afghanistan authorities are continuing efforts to secure a venue to host it.

With the initial group stages of the T20 World Cup expected to be played primarily in Oman, the UAE venues could be free to host the matches between the end of the IPL and the start of the World Cup's Super 12 stage, expected to begin on October 23.

Seven players who participated in the initial stage of this year's IPL -- David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson and Daniel Sams -- are now expected to return to the lucrative T20 league.

Josh Hazlewood, Riley Meredith, Dan Christian, Moises Henriques, Mitch Marsh, Jason Behrendorff, Adam Zampa, Andrew Tye, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Lynn, Ben Cutting and Josh Philippe are the other players that hold IPL deals.

Hazlewood, Marsh and Philippe had opted out of the first stage of the IPL tournament that was held in India, but are eligible to return to the reschedule closing stages.

It will also be the second successive season in which top players will miss the opening rounds of Australia's domestic competitions to participate in the IPL.

Australia's men's domestic summer is due to begin with a Marsh One-Day Cup game on September 11, meaning any players heading to the IPL and subsequent T20 World Cup will not feature at home before the Test summer begins against Afghanistan from November 27.
 
New Delhi: With political situation taking a new turn in Afghanistan, uncertainty and unpredictability is looming around the future of their top cricketers, especially Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi, who are due to compete in the remainder of the IPL in the UAE from September 19.

The Taliban is set to take over the reins of the South Asian country as President Ashraf Ghani has reportedly fled to Tajikistan.

Rashid and Nabi are not in Afghanistan. They are in United Kingdom, competing in the 'Hundred' tournament. Rashid is playing for Trent Rockets and Nabi is representing London Spirits.

The BCCI is keeping an eye on the developments and is hoping to see participation of Afghan players in the India Premier League.

"It is too early to comment but we are keeping a watch. For us, nothing changes and we expect Rashid and other Afghan players would be part of IPL," a BCCI source told PTI.

It remains to be seen if Rashid and Nabi stay back in the UK after completion of 'The Hundred' on August 21 as they have families back home.

And if they stay back in UK, it will be interesting to see if the BCCI asks them to be on the same charter flight that will take the Indian players to the UAE from Manchester on September 15.

Both Rashid and Nabi play for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The BCCI is expected to speak with the Afghanistan Cricket Board on situation.

As per ICC's FTP schedule, Afghanistan are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for six white-ball games this month but the final schedule is still not out yet.

Rashid is Afghanistan's T20 captain.

Rashid, Nabi and Mujeeb Zadran are some of the Afghanistan players who are regular feature in IPL teams. Rashid is one of the most sought after T20 freelancers in world cricket currently.

Both Nabi and Rashid have urged the world leaders to intervene as Afghanistan faces its worst socio-political crisis in last two decades.

Though I agree most of the time players play in IPL for money (like in any other league) but this IPL is an absolute necessity for Australian players. After their horror show in Bangladesh, Aussies need this IPL the most before the T20 WC to get back into the groove. So its more than money for them this time, its about fixing their game and testing them in conditions they are not very familiar with playing. Its similar to how players play in county cricket to learn the art of batting in Eng against red dukes. This IPL will be a similar learning experience for Aussies.

Steve Smith set to play in IPL, Finch on track to recover in time for T20 World Cup

IPL 2021, which had been suspended in May due to multiple COVID-19 cases in its bio-bubble, has since been rescheduled to complete the remaining games between September 19 and October 15 in the UAE.

Star Australian batsman Steve Smith, who had been sidelined due to an elbow injury, is expected to make a return during the IPL, while limited overs team skipper Aaron Finch is on track to recover in time for the T20 World Cup.

Smith had given the tours of the Caribbean and Bangladesh a miss due to a left elbow injury, which had been troubling him since last year.

However, he has been recovering well with the 32-year-old batting in the nets for an hour at a time at New South Wales’ training and is set to be available for the resumption of the IPL, according to cricket.com.au.

The IPL, which had been suspended in May due to multiple COVID-19 cases in its bio-bubble, has since been rescheduled to complete the remaining games between September 19 and October 15 in the UAE, finishing just two days before the T20 World Cup which has also been relocated to the region from India.

“It seems to be going really well. I know that he’s (Smith) been building up his batting time over the last couple of weeks ? I know that would have been difficult to have a time limit on his net times,” Finch told cricket.com.au on Wednesday.

“From all reports he’s been really strict with that, making sure he doesn’t overdo his elbow so it hinders his rehab,” he added.

Smith was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore in the auction earlier this year.

“He’s going really well. The last time I spoke to him he wasn’t having any pain batting so that was a real positive. He’s going to be such an important part of our campaign,” Finch said.

The white-ball skipper, who recently had a surgery on his left knee, is confident of being fit before the World Cup.

“I’m confident of that (being fit for the World Cup),” said Finch.

“It will be come down to pretty minimal match practice which I think being older and being around for quite a while plays into my hands a bit, having (previously recovered from) some injuries where you don’t have a lot of lead time into a series.

“I think that will help me. The surgery went as well as it could have and I’m walking around with no pain, which is the most important thing at this stage,” he added.

Smith and Finch’s return to the T20 squad ahead of the World Cup will be a big boost for the Australian side, which has lost five successive T20I series while winning just six of the 21 matches in the past year.

They lost two back-to-back series against West Indies and Bangladesh, which were intended to provide useful preparation ahead of the World Cup, with a similar 4-1 margin.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season nearing its resumption in the UAE but in the background, preparations are also underway for the 2022 season. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer, Arun Dhumal, the work is presently in progress for the addition of two more franchises in the league next season.

The BCCI was hopeful of adding two more teams to the roster ahead of the 2021 season but the Covid-19 pandemic made the transition difficult. Though the virus threat still remains, with the third wave still looming, the Indian board is all but set to make IPL a 10-team tournament from the next season onwards.

“Everybody is looking up to the IPL now; we believe it will be an exciting tournament in UAE. This would be the last season of IPL with eight teams. Surely there will be 10 teams next time. We are working on that,” Dhumal was quoted as saying by Inside Sport.

On being asked about a possible timeline by when the addition of the two teams could be completed, the treasurer refused to delve into the details.

Among the new cities that could make a splurge into the cash-rich T20 league, Pune, Lucknow and Ahmedabad are among the top contenders. Kanpur, Guwahati, Indore, Kochi, Raipur and Trivandrum are said to be some of the other contenders for the two new spots in the roster.

The BCCI would be hopeful of organising the full IPL season in India next time around after seeing the season being suspended mid-way due to Covid-19 outbreak within the T20 league. The board, as well as the franchises, have had to reduce their profits due to higher expenses in the UAE.

The two new franchises would also see more money being pumped into the league from next year. The BCCI, however, is yet to finalise the format for the 10-team season.

Excellent. There's no way Amdavad cannot have a team with their affluent economy and that gladiatorial arena by the river. The other team could be either Pune or one from Kerala.

Also, aside from the usual suspects, Reliance is preparing to bid for broadcast rights. BCCI's dream of INR 100 crore a match for this cycle might come true. An unheard of ~6 billion USD deal.
 
The second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is set to begin on September 19 but the franchises are still unsure over the availability of their players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly set August 20 as the deadline for the squad submission for franchises, leaving them in a fix.

Both England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia have given their players the clean chit to participate in the remainder of IPL 2021 but the final decision is still in the hands of the players. With time running out to register players, the franchises are in a hurry to finalise their squads for the second phase of the tournament that is to begin in one month's time.

“We have to submit the squad by August 20 but I can’t confirm whether all foreign players will be available. We are still in talks with some players. The good thing is that the T20 World Cup will be held in UAE and that gives us confidence that all players will be available but we are still waiting on some players’ final confirmation,” one of the franchise officials told InsideSport.

The fact that the T20 World Cup 2021 will be held in the UAE has eased the franchises' headaches to some extent. The cricket boards are keen for their players to play in IPL as it serves as the perfect platform for their preparations keeping the T20 World Cup in mind.

So far, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the only franchise to have a full squad available. Josh Hazlewood, who had missed the first part of the campaign, is set to return for the second part. Rajasthan Royals are among the franchises which have a major headache. While there's no clarity on the availability of Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer is set to miss the T20 league. Even Jos Buttler is yet to confirm his availability.

“Yes, BCCI’s delay in responding officially did play a part in last-minute hassle. We kept hearing about players’ availability in the news but BCCI only confirmed that officially in August. That’s why the August 20 deadline is a little early for us. But if that’s the norm, we will adhere to that,” another franchise official told the portal.

The franchises have also started preparations for their camps in UAE ahead of the new season. In fact, CSK players have already completed their quarantine and are set to begin the practice sessions.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have suffered a big blow as their opener Jos Buttler has pulled out of the 2nd phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The England Cricket Board has allowed its players to take part in the league but Buttler has pulled out due to personal reasons.

RR took to Twitter to reveal that Buttler and his wife are expecting their second child. The cricketer will spend time his wife and the newborn before landing in UAE for T20 World Cup 2021.

"Jos Buttler will not be part of the remainder of #IPL2021, as he and Louise are expecting a second child soon. We wish them well, and can't wait for the newest member of the #RoyalsFamily," RR wrote on Twitter.

Buttler returned to form before the suspension of IPL 2021 and scored 124 off 64 in RR's 7th fixture of the season. His absence will see a change in RR's top order. RR have signed New Zealand's Glenn Phillips as Buttler's replacement. The right-handed batsman has played 25 T20Is for Black Caps.

Buttler is the 2nd England player who is confirmed to miss the league. RR's Jofra Archer has been ruled out of IPL, T20 World Cup and Ashes 2021 due to elbow injury.

There are also doubts over Ben Stokes' availability. He is on a break from the game and is missing the ongoing five-match Test series against India. There is no official regarding his participation in T20 World Cup as well.

Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone had flown back home before the suspension of the season and there is no word on their availability too.

With 3 wins from 7 matches, the Sanju Samson-led side is placed at the 5th spot in the points table. RR will kick off their 2nd phase of the season against Punjab Kings on September 21.

Many players and teams are seeing the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), being held just before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, as a chance for players to get into the mode for the shortest version of the game. (More Cricket News)

But there are many players who are set to miss the event due to many reasons. IPL 2021 when it was stalled due to outbreak of COVID-19 in May was already 29 games old. The remaining 31 matches are set to be held In UAE.

Already several players have either shown their inability to participate in the IPL 2021 in UAE.

By the looks of it, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore look the most affected franchises. RR are set to miss Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer both mainstays for the franchisee.

Add to it the uncertainty surrounding Ben Stokes participation. The England all-rounder is on break from cricket and it’s not clear if he will participate or not.

Kane Richardson who also plays for RCB is also going to give the IPL 2021 at miss. He is also part of Australia’s T20 World Cup plans.

Riley Meredith
The Australian pacer has been ruled out due to an injury. Meredith is suffering from side strain and PBKS have signed Nathan Ellis as his replacement.

Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson is another Aussies fast bowler who has pulled out of the second leg of IPL 2021.

Daniel Sams
Daniel Sams will not be featuring in IPL 2021 as he has taken a break due to mental health. He was part of Virat Kohli-led RCB.

Finn Allen
Finn Allen is likely to miss IPL 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore as he will be on national assignments with the team
