What's new

Bollywood Corner

YJHD looks a typical Deepika movie, like Love Aaj kal and Cocktail. Lootera is more exciting !

yeah...trailer looks like it. I cant post the link now but I liked the directors note in the movie...at least sounded like move had more to offer than the trailer suggested . I will be disappointed if it ends up being a typical movie...his wake up sid is one of fav films ever!!'

Lootera looks good..hope its not disappointing like others movies that have looked good in the past. for example: guzarish.

I would be disappointed too as Ranbir is a class actor and I had high hopes from Deepika after Cocktail !

btw, do you know what Qazi Tauqeer, Rex and Rooprekha are doing these days? they were the finalists of singing comp Fame Gurukul back in 2008(?) but never heard of them again. I heard Qazi had signed a movie "Take off" but it never released :(

^^^^ Not sure mate....havent seen the show...and I googled dem...not much info !!! I guess they did not succeed out of their show !!!!

Raj Kumar Gupta(director of Aamir, No one killed Jessica and Assistant director of Black Friday) introduces his lead character's in his movie...Ghanchakkar(Starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan).....Trailer to release on March 27th.

Imraan Hashmi aka Sanjay Athray aka Mr Ghanchakkar
Sanjay Athray is a vault-breaker who has taken an early voluntary retirement from his profession. His current behaviour is totally like that of an elderly retired person. He attends to his small garden early in the morning, watches TV most of the day and sips quality wine at night. He dresses in comfy cottons and is absolutely unflappable. Sanju's demeanour changes after he comes out of 'retirement', to be a part of a heist with some other conmen who knew his ex-partner.

Sanju is entrusted with the loot, but he forgets where he kept it. He begins to forget a lot of other things, too, but his memory is sharp when it comes to certain other matters — anniversaries, for example. As the pressure to find the loot increases, a brutally honest, ultra-cool Sanju suddenly becomes extremely hassled and suspicious. He becomes prone to sarcasm and bouts of anger.

Is Sanju suffering from some medical problem or is he making a ghanchakkar out of all of us?

Vidya Balan aka Neetu Athray aka Mrs Ghanchakkar
It would be difficult to guess from her clothes that Neetu is a regular reader of a fashion magazine, which she buys from the neighbourhood newspaper stand. It would also be difficult to guess from the taste of the dishes she cooks that Neetu is very fond of cooking. And it is even more difficult to guess from her sweet demeanour that a fire-brand Punjaban lies trapped inside. The old adage 'opposites attract' describes her marriage to a T.

Neetu is not into comfy clothes, she is into fashion atrocities. She exhibits her feelings and doesn't really enjoy the contemplative retired life that they are leading. She never thinks enough is enough; she believes life should be lived when one is young and everything — from the TV to the apartment and family holidays — should be kingsize. But as Sanju observes his wife, he begins to wonder if this loving homemaker is for real. Or, is she actually conning the conmen?

Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Ghanchakkar releases on June 28

Looking forward !!!!! Loved both his movies....and Anything Vidya Balan touches these days seems good !!!!!

what a pukeworthy movie..i clicked on that video expecting the melodious voice of kumar sanu..and got to hear this fake constipated voice of some unknown singer...what a travesty of the original ashiqui.

Tum Hi Ho 2 min Song Promo From Ashiqui 2.....Mithoon is under rated music director...his Maula Mera from anwar is just brilliant....Murder 2 album was great as well . I like this track too...Going by the video.....storyline seems to be same as Aashiqui

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUo8CKI34o4

Finally somone noticed it as well. I find him right up there (A R Rahman is another league so lets take him out of picture). Amit Trivedi, Anu Kapoor, Vishal Shekhar get all the hype ( deservedly so) but I say Mithoon is actually better than any of them.. There is also this pair 'Sachin-Jigar' who are highly under-rated as well...

ohh I still have to watch it (udaan)..my brother said its really good..I think its one of the best indian movies in recent times..just have to watch it!

Well then this movie should be very good..the premise looks interesting! I dont like the heroine.

navroks..whenver i see dipika padukone, diana penty, ranbir kapoor, sneha khanwalkar i think of you..because somehow they represent you..modern indian, representing upper middle class, enjoying life, being happy, without any chip on their shoulder...and the very things i dislike.

lol...donno what to say....but they probably work hard in their fields too....you think sneha would do music like GOW I or II or Ranbir would act so well..or Deepika improve with every movie......and I work hard too yaar :(....you do not see me on PP from 8 am est to 7 est most of the time..except may be one or two posts here and there....

why dislike yaar....enjoy life...you take things a bit seriously I feel !!!!

GM, navrocks deserves some credit..he tries to promote Indian related things, such as bollywood. He also tells the Pakistani PPers about new Indian movies coming out and hes helpful. I think he needs some credit, rather than hate.

Navroks is everything I could not be..since childhood i always hated the richer kids..i was sent to a school of rich kids because somehow my parents wanted me to get the best education..but in the school bus they made fun of me..my shirt had patch work done and they would laugh at me..to hide that i started sitting on the last bench..sometimes kid would ask me hey what do you eat at home..do you sit on the floor..what does your father do..all sorts of questions to mock me..so i developed hatred for all rich kids and promised to myself on day i will also be rich..that is why i hate all this middle class and the upper middle class..even though i can be called middle class now..but can never forget how i was made fun of in my school years.

It's actually a perfect bollywood story, you could sell it for good money to some bollywood directors

Its sad to hear that,,,but kids can be cruel at times. Why not be thankful to God for what you have..and where you are form where you were? Also, its not good to generalize based on past experiences...I see youre Bengali...so f you say something bad bad...I dont take you as a representations of all Bengalis and then carry a grudge against all of them.

Judge a person how they are with you..rather than based on generalizations.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude..again..donno what to say....I am not a rich kid ....middle class !!!! and yeah....I am sure you are intelligent to know better by now ...kids by themselves are immature.....they make fun of everything...I made fun of few...and I was made fun for being dark lot of times...my friends still make fun of me sometimes...you take it litely......dont think hating on whole section of people is right for how kids behave.....now that your financial situation is better ..do what you could not do before I guess. Sounds like philosophy....but there is no point in hating people you do not know...!!! l

i remember i used to lie, when they would talk about having a cable at home..and a PC..i would say we also have that..and when i walked by the canteen, i would pretend that i was eating something..so that others will think i bought something..when actually i would go there to smell the food. once a rich guy invited me for his birthday..the only reason he invited me because i used to come first in class..so that he can show off to his parents that look this is sanju who comes first in class..when i went, i saw his servants and they were from my locality.. that day i realized that these rich people have money but they want to collect trophies..so if you have something they dont have, they will put you as part of their collection...from that day i have always been different and special so that every rich guy wants to include me in his gatherings.

anyway Navroks, getting back to Bollywood..dont you see how they make movies only for the rich and upper middle class..what about the stories of the poor? old movies would show a guy getting a job and having an emotional scene with his mother..now why dont movies show the struggles of education, job and the hardships of life... why do they show first world problems..that the guy has two hot girls and cannot decide whom he loves, although he flirts with them both?? when will bollywood makes films on the less fortunate indians?

I feel like giving suggestions..and then I feel like they are such obvious suggestions....forget dem Gman......everybody as kids must have told some sort of overhyped lies about themselves....I am pretty sure I did....and this trophies and all....too much generalizations yaar !!!! Stop remembering them.....typing them...you are in usa now..working ..enjoy it than thinking about very distant past !!!!! think like this...somebody like you must be hating on you for being middle class or rich..but they do not you or your story....like wise what is the point of such drastic generalizations....most of them must have worked their ass off to be middle class like you!!!! anyway...lets stop this discussion !!! post your favorite song or something...:D

i have come to the topic of bollywood..why it has become exclusively for the aspiring middle class..you see so much cleanliness in the scenes, so well dressed, so perfect set of teeth and hairline..even the servants are shown well dressed..but how many of us have such a lifestyle.. so why do most of the Bollywood movies make such movies?? are they selling a dream..that you guys can life the virtual life of a rich guy in 2-3 hours an forget your life hardships?? dont you think Bollywood is so heavily biased towards the rich?

there should be varied types of movies...lots of movies last year on nornal people....english vinglish or Shanghai (lot satires on how "shining" india is actually working against the poor at some places) or paan singh tomar or GOW I or II ......most bwood are entertainers..they are not supposed to be taken as some representative of a society..they are just characters....Vicky Donor had a few scenes between mother and son.....

and about rich...movie is a movie...and not as a representative of a industry....you can pick so many movies that are not about rich every year.....how fair is to ask an escapist film maker to show dirty roads....ofcourse movie is a make believe....where people can immerse in the world of the movie...nothing wrong in it...that is what people come to movies for....people have hard enough lives anyway...now with increase in niche audience...varied films are coming up !!! There is nothing wrong in cinema being escapist entertainment .....

If you are still interested in realistic cinema....there are handfull of them coming every single year....

^^^ Watch Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana ,Girl in yellow boots !!! Infact looking up.....there are good number of movies on normal Indian problems every year especially in the last few years.....if one is interested they can look it up and watch them.....Asking masala movies to be representative of the society is asking a bit too much IMO......

Rocket Singh was a great movie on a middle class Salesman.....

Even though wake up sid was about a rich kid..it dealt with things normal indians deal with...parents spending money on kids..and kids beccoming lazy and passionless due to environment...and the way he comes back to his father..and gives his first pay check ...and talks about photographs...that is normal indian stuff...if you ignore the background of the character it touches every indian....

Udaan dealt with normal day to day lives stuff....I do think we are moving towards a balance ....

anurag kashyap etc dont count as bollywood.. he himself doesnt consider himself an insider in bollywood.

bollywood has created a divide in india..the urban middle class..who have some relative abroad..who go to starbucks and mcdonalds and buy gucci and versace..vs the rural and small town people who have never seen a dollar, an air place ticket, who dont speak hinglish, and dont do the outsourced work of the west.

it is surprising that the educated urban middle class who is supposed to be modern and liberal..is the biggest defender of bollywood and doesnt criticize it..and attaches its self identity with it.

errr....what??? bollywood is a movie industry...it does not ask you to go places...do stuff....buy some stuff...you do if if you want to..you buy it if you can afford it .....movie industry is a last thing that creates divide among public...there are gazillion other factors...like wait..money. all the differences between the poor and rich will exist irrespective of movie industry.....I am not even sure what you are talking actually !!!! you think a rich man wont go to star bucks or mcdonalds....rural people will see a air plane ticket if not for movie industry??? you are giving way way way way too much importance to a movie industry.....it is the last thing that has created divide in india... The divide was a prerequisite for the movie industry to even "supposedly" concentrate on one section..... every class of audience will stay exactly like they are irrespective of the movie industry !! infact one view can be that...movie makes people see the world they cannot see !!!anyway...we have different views on this...and we have argued on this like a gazillion times !!! lets agree to disagree....it we would be better if stick to movies than social commentary on the position of the movies and their relevance to india...(obviously I cannot stop you...but that is a suggestion...)...!!!

yeah, lets not have an uplifting intellectual debate based on moral principles..let us stick to the mud of lowest common denominator of which actress is the talk of the town and which actor is the next big thing in the already inflated crowd of plastic mannequins of bollywood.

You should really try talking normally...with a normal tone Gman..sometimes..:D !!!!!!!! and then I think we had these debates many times...with no conclusion. There is no point.. You can have these intellectual debates with many people here...you can conclude that I am not intelligent person if you want to :D...but I do not like these "uplifting intellectual debates" which I keep repeating..what is the point !!!!....and you can judge my intelligence if you want...I do not like to debate something to gain intelligence on PP...I debate something if I have a point of view to make ....and if I gain something from the debate it is fine...good...otherwise ....time pass...and for fun...anyway.... I actually kinda hate debates on serious matters..it spoils my mood over nothing ...and my day becomes more taxing as if it was not already!! I am not even sure what I am typing...it is 12:30 here..got to go sleep!!!

Hopefully the movie does well For Dhanush....Rahman and Abhay deol's precense is helpfull I guess....

dhanush doesnt even look like a spotboy..forget a star..and that is what i like about him..will always prefer watching him over all the chiseled, dented and painted stars.

^^^^ No...climax was from his other movie called "3" with Shruti Hassan... I just posted it coz I like his acting there..especially from midway through the scene where he starts writing letter and his attempt to slit his throat but he cannot gather enough courage....

@Gman..

Yeah...pretty commendable how he developed his career...doing brilliant offbeat movies..and same time developing a good stardom through dem ...has a very good market down south !!!!!

isnt 3 the movie with kolaveri di?? If its good I might watch it..Ill youtube it for a dubbed/subtitled version

Yeah, it is the one with Kolaveri Di. Movie was decent....could have been handled better after good promise in the first 1 hr or so....but has some great scenes in 2nd half too ....if you really want to..it can be watched once....

^^^ yeah...PadhuPettai ,Mayakam Enna, Kadhal Konden and Aadhukulam in the same order are my fav movies of his.....

IM, you never mention Bengali movies..are you aware of its rich history..have you watched any of Satyajit Ray's classics? i think i should start a thread to teach people about real cinema that Bengal used to offer..

yeah, I only watch Tamil,Telugu and hindi in indian cinema....everything else very rarely if somebody suggests something... only bengali movie I have watched is Bhooter Bhabishyat...which released in 2012....I saw an article on the movie and youtubed it and the movie was there with subs...so watched it...liked it....please do start a thread...... malayalam and bengali have the best artistic movies apparently.....would like to watch a few good ones!!!

navroks, dont mind me saying it..i wish i had a brother like you..you are the very opposite of what i am..you would have balanced me.

Gman.......sometimes I really do not know how to respond ....but it is good to see someone say that I guess....since it is the idealogies...you can adopt and balance it even now :D

IM, you never mention Bengali movies..are you aware of its rich history..have you watched any of Satyajit Ray's classics? i think i should start a thread to teach people about real cinema that Bengal used to offer..

Now we know the reason for your constant moaning about Bollywood. It is not based in Bengal and language of the movies is not Bengali. Have i gotten it right GM?

Huma Qureshi will be a flop actress..her novelty factor was she was well fed compared to other actresses..but once that wears off..she is very ordinary actress..and ordinary looks. to be relevant she is trying to do some intimate scenes..but i predict she will remain a second rung actress at best.

There is only good actor left in bollywood, Akshay kumar. He was my favorite from early years and still is otherwise have completly stopped watching bollywood movies.

^he's alright..but have you seen his latest movies? After Singh is King he has done nothing noteworthy.

^he's alright..but have you seen his latest movies? After Singh is King he has done nothing noteworthy.

Watched special 26, didnt like it since its not comedy. And also because they treat the audience as stupid and have to show flash back for scenes which just happened 10 mins ago. But i cant blame Akshay since he always say apna dimagh ghar per rakh kar hao agher bollywood ki film dekhni hai.

Slowly Slowly Song Promo of Go Goa gone ....I do not like first 40 seconds of the song..and I really liked the rest of song...it is pretty catchy!!!

Aurangazeb Starring Arjun Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Pridhvi Raj, Sasha Agha

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo9jiUeopc

I liked Arjun in Ishaqzaade, acted really well...trailer is not impressive......don't think the movie will work either..might be wrong but trailer does not give much confidence. Not sure why there are so many movies ganging up on each other in may..... Shoot out at Wadala, Bombay Talkies, Go Goa Gone, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwaani, Araungazeb, Zanzeer, Aashiqui 2....

Btw...I saw himmatwala in theatre this weekend ....I really wanted to see how bad the movie is ...after watching the mind blowing reviews..and after seeing Imdb rating of 2 ....

No amount of preparation will be enough to tolerate that garbage.....Movie started with 20 odd people..and ended with only 6 leaving the theatres(remaining left half way through)...I would have left too if not for my friend watching Gi Joe ....you know there as these movies which are so bad..they become good......not this..this is so bad that it irritates that **** out of you..and then there is a good chance of you contemplating suicide.....if i have to talk positives may be Paresh Rawal and Tamanna and me surviving the movie!!!

Rating: 0.5/10 !!!!! Hey baby and housefull seems like Godfather and Godfather 2 after watching this....

^^^ No....but it opened really well at box office !!!! Reviews have been decent....Pretty much every review suggests this what masand said.....So I am guessing its decent for one time watch and not expect anything close to the original !!!!
If you're willing to leave the memory of the earlier film at the door, there's a chance you might enjoy the rat-a-tat sparring between the leads, and you might even find yourself chuckling at some of the crude humour.
I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for David Dhawan's Chashme Baddoor. Like junk food, it has no nutritional value. But an occasional bite doesn't hurt.

Badtameez Dil Song Promo from Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani....loved it !!!!! Fun song/choreography and lyrics...

Chahun Main Aana from Aashiqui 2.... Trust Bhatts to never go wrong with the Music....Aashiqui 2 sound track is just brilliant.....brilliant soundtrack was a must for Aashiqui 2 given the status of original music . Brilliant song this and tum hi ho as well......All the 9 songs are uploaded by T-series in youtube....

these stars are trapped in their own image..they have to try to look young in spite of their age..because that is what the entertainment industry wants from them.. pretty sad to see dilip kumar with dyed and implanted hair and amitabh taking it one step ahead by dressing like hugh hefner.

^^^ True....Should have worn Sherwanis or something....it would have looked great....guess it was filmfare's decision....

Watched Special 26. Really enjoyed it. After a long time i enjoyed a bw movie. Everything about the movie was good- Direction, acting, story.

Watched a Few movies movies which I have missed and revisited some in the last month

Honeymoon Pvt Travels Ltd (2007)Starring Manoj Bajpai, Abhay Deol, Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon, Ameesha Patel. Ranvir Shorey Directed by Reema Kagti

Good one time...Its about 6 couples going on a honeymoon...some of the couples are interesting ...the rest are meh..,,decent watch for an evening. 6/10

Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011)starring Kay Kay Menon, Chithrangadha Singh directed by Sudhir Mishra...

Unexpectedly Good...starts of slow but buils up really well....Recommended. Rating 7.5/10

David Starring Vikram, Neel Nithin Mukhesh,Tabu directed by Bejoy Nambiar....After Shaithan..not as good as Shaithan career...but taking of few scenes were just brilliant..I thought the story could have moved a little faster than it did..... Rating: 6/10

Revisited Jab we met after a long time....One of the few romantic movies that will stand the test of time for a long time..absolutely love the movie...Kareena Kapoor's movie all the way....I will be suprised if she gets one more career defining character as Geet from here on...brilliant songs as well....Rating:9/10

Luck Starring Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan, Manisha Lamba, Sunjay Dutt -- Utter crap..did not feel like finishing the movie !! 1/10

Inkaar Starring Arjun Rampal, Chitranghadha singh directed By Sudhir Mishra--- Watched this movies after I saw Yeh Saali Zindagi...almost felt like two different directors...veteran Director Sudhir Mishra looses a bit in the movie...it had the potential to be a very good thriller....Not saying it is a very reall bad movie..decent !!!.but rather very simple..unidemsional ..soulless compared to his other words..be it Kareena's Chameli or the brilliant Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi or Khoya Khoya Chand or Dharavi....

Rating: 6/10

Now I understand and that explains. King of contradictions.

I went to watch Himmatwala with the family.

Never know what to expect when you take the family to watch a Bollywood movie these days, but we all really enjoyed it. The girls liked the comedy and my wife and I thought it was a good, clean, well made film.

watched Ek thi dayan , superb movie ..konkana sen Sharma stole the show ..best horror movie to come out of bollywood in recent times ..ending was bit bollywoodized though but overall a must watch..8.5/10
