What's new

Bollywood Corner

It's July of 2012, and for me the best bollywood movie of year is still Agneepath. I think it might win the best film award at the award shows at the end of the year.

Also, I watched this recent interview of Aamir Khan:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F0pMmDnZQU&feature=plcp

He talks about his show Satyamev Jayate, Talaash, Dhoom 3, and how he has this photographic memory for scripts. Nice interview.

Wow, Katrina is going crazy :))
Yeah..all her next 4 to 5 movies except Rajneeti...are a guaranteed 100 crores films...even Rajneeti may if movie turns out good considering women oriented Vidya balan's movie has got closer to 100 crores..and wont be surprised if ek Tha Tiger and Dhoom 3 become the highest ever...and very varied characters too...esp Dhoom 3 for which she is getting trained for year and half now for stunts and fights......esp it supposed to be a intelligent movie too unlike dhoom 2 considering Aamir is involved ..she def getting better as actress..both acting and and box office.

I can't wait for the music of SRK's next either, apparently Lata Mangeshkar is also going to be part of some song.

Yeah...Its been a while Rahman has done an romantic film. Jaane tu YA Jaane na was last..it was great.

This year has been very good for bollywood with a right mix of movies..For me..

my top 5 so far...
Paan Singh Tomar
Kahaani
Vicky Donor
Gangs of WasseyPur
IshaqZaade in terms of films making, content etc...

But I also liked Agneepath, Ek Main aur Ek tu...

Cocktail was okay...and enjoyed out and out masala fares like Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore...and even Jannat 2 ..and there are many good movies to come this year...

Watched Bol Bachchan - enjoyed it, good comedy movie. Abhishek Bachchan was hilarious! :))

8.25/10

I wanted to watch Cocktail (2012) as Geo reported good about this film. However, after reading this on IMDB, I changed my mind at least for now. Please feel free to add your comments if you have watched this film and whether it is worth a watch or just waste of time and money.

Being an avid cinema goer and having heard good things about the film from friends I went to the cinema to watch it and ended up walking out in the middle, disgusted! This is another bollywood attempt of stitching together stories and scenes from Hollywood films. The whole film revolves around a sex triangle and nothing else! People who want to see a good story should not waste their time watching this cheap film. The topping on the cake was Arif Lohars song Jugni attached to a cheap sex film, shame! Bravo to Saif Ali khan for his childish acting and dipikas depiction of her real life self! The 12A rating is completely wrong and I felt really terrible for the people who had brought along their children for the film! Grow up bollywood, taking scenes and stories from Hollywood and throwing in sex and nakedness does NOT guarantee a good film!

Wow. Okay....looks like above review is written by desperate somebody who gets aroused by site of an ankle. Nakedness???? Deepika potraying her real self???.....as if he knows her in her real life??? sex film???? scenes and stories from hollywood??? None of this is true man.....whether it is worth it to watch ...depends on your taste...I found the first half very good and second half to be let down. Btw...if idea of "sex film" is women in a bikini, sex being part of the story film....then it is not for you. However I would not rate it anymore than PG-13. And ofcourse not a children film..especially desi children. But that does not make it a "sex film"....but oh well what did you expect from a review written by somebody who judges actress by the characters she potrays with out even known her...deepika potraying her real self ..lol!!!

I agree calling it a sex film is a bit extreme. If an actress wearing shorts and bikini offends then I don't even know what to say!

However I wish I also walked out in the middle as the movie was awful after the first half, just awful!

Yeah....I did not find it that awful...but ya a serious let down compared to the first half....

Kareena Kapoor's Heroine Poster Released....Theatrical Trailer to be released on 25th....think a potential national award movie for Kareena..

heroine13.jpg

But I would have actually loved to see Aishwarya Rai as heroine..who was the intial choice and also signed the movie, did a photo shoot and then pregnancy happened...she looked ravishing...I think she would have more suited to role..especially of a huge heroine..and has mystery to her than Kareena has.....and a better actress as well.. some of photoshoot pics....they became part of dabboo ratnani's 2012 calender...

Kareena Kapoor's Heroine Theatrical Trailer..... other star cast : Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and Mudha Godse

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZWB_h91HqP0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Looks Great. esp Last scene in the trailer is intriguing......great to see Kareena Kapoor do a full fledged role after Jab we met....sick of seeing her beside big heroes in blockbusters for roles which anybody could do...she is one of the better actresses in bollywood and hopefully does roles with more meat. Movie is supposefly a dark film...trailer is purposefully made more fun to attract more mass audience.

Trailer has Madhur Bhandarkar written all over it though...hopefully the madhur bhandarkar of Page 3, Chandni Bar..atleast fashion. I guess comparisons with dirty picture and fashion will be inevitable.

Sneha Khanwalkar is one of my favorite music composers now. What a soundtrack she has given for both Gangs of Wasseypur...very original...and suits the setting and the mood of the movie. check out her programme "Sound Trippin" in MTV..she goes to different places in India and records the sounds of that place and makes a song with those sounds with local artists of the area.....

Listen to this song from the 1st episode....

Whole episode of the song..... official site of the programme... : http://mtv.in.com/soundtrippin/videos.html

A very underrated movie by Tigmanshu Dhulia. Anurag Kashyap had acted in it.

In Gangs of Wasseypur (an Anurag Kashyap movie), Tigmanshu returned the favor by playing Ramadhir Singh...

Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal's Next.... Paresh Rawal is the central character..Looks Great!!! Always Awesome to see Paresh Rawal play important characters...one of the greatest actors in India....

OMG!!! Ever got bored watching a trailer....see this

Karan Johar's next ... "Student of the Year" with Alia Bhatt(Mahesh Bhatt's Daughter), Varun Dhavan(David Dhavan's son), Sidhartha Malhotra(Donno whose son he is, but probably somebody famous)... :D

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fivOhPjX9YM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

TERRIBLE!!! TERRIBLE!!! TERRIBLE!!!!CRAP!!!! Movie will be biggest flop of the year...and I am expecting it to beat Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag as the Worst bollywood film of all time...RGV is too genious a film maker to hold on to that tag!!!

This movie will spoil what is a very good year for bollywood in terms of artistic and Commercial cinema!!!

One of the rare videos in youtube with more dislikes than likes!!

Awesome!!!!! Eagerly waiting for the movie......Good to see a little more of Priyanka Chopra...theatrical trailer had very less of her.

Will be a great movie for both Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra..and a very good start for Ileana D Cruz in the north.

It may sound Nepotistic, but Kapoor Family is very talented...right from Pruthvi Raj Kapoor to son... Legendary Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor....and then to Raj Kapoor's son Rishi Kapoor to Randhir Kapoor's daughters Karishma Kapoor &Kareena Kapoor to now Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor.... Ranbir Kapoor has all the makings of a great actor. And their contribution to indian cinema is unparralled..Thats why Cringe anytime media writes Bacchan Family as the first family of bollywood....and its only Amithab and to some extent Aishwarya(and she is not a bacchan )....

and btw...Prudhvi Raj Kapoor was born in Pakistan..

cant expect anything better from Karan Johar anyway. And I like Madhur Bhandarkar but first look of Heroine is really disappointing. May be its because I dont like Kareena but the script is so predictable and has been done so many times, I doubt if Kareena can actually make an impression here.

saw the movie Bubble Gum, easily the best movie I've seen this year. Its been sometime since I saw such a nice light hearted bollywood movie, the relationship of brothers reminded me of "Jo Jeeta wohi sikander". Great movie, I wish Bollywood can make more of this kind

Ratings : 9/10

Gangs Of Wasseypur >>>>> Agneepath.

Also Raaz 3 looks horrible. Raaz 1 is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen (up in there among the best horror from Hollywood/Japanese/Korean industries). Raaz 2 was a joke, horrible CG everywhere. This looks nothing different with cheap scares and cliche jump scenes.

Eagerly awaiting the DVD of Gangs of Wasseypur. no good prints out there so far.

Want to see Pan Sing Tomar and Bol Bachan as well!

One of the rare videos in youtube with more dislikes than likes!!

I was wondering why the (dis)like option was no more there. :))

What's up with sons/cousins/nephews/... of directors/actors/producers/... monopolizing B Town lol ?

^^^

Seriously, I really do not mind sons/nephews coming in...because after all most people end up doing their family's profession...like business or usually doctor's son is a doctor.

However, I hate the fact that most do not work well enough.....After Hrithik Roshan...it took 10/11 yrs for a good actor(Ranbir Kapoor/Abhay Deol/Farhan Akhtar)...coming from a Film family.....

In actress...Konkana Sen Sharma and Kareena Kapoor

in between we had.....Abhishek Bacchan(decent),Sonam Kapoor(bad), Fardeen Khan(horrible), Zayed Khan(Mega Horrible), Tushar Kapoor(Super horrible), Esha Deol (Meh...), Imran Khan(Okayish) and I am not even counting people like Mithun Chakraborthy's son Mimoh, Harman Baweja,Uday Chopra, Tanisha.....

With how nepotistic bollywood .our indian society is in general..we should see atleast more hardwork from people who have great backgrounds.

cant expect anything better from Karan Johar anyway. And I like Madhur Bhandarkar but first look of Heroine is really disappointing. May be its because I dont like Kareena but the script is so predictable and has been done so many times, I doubt if Kareena can actually make an impression here.

Lol....I hate when Karan Johar is named among elite film makers ...his only decent ones kuch kuch hota hain, k3G came in when melodrama with big starcasts worked ...otherwise even those were crap with awesome songs. I think this movie will end him...the trailer looks so crap.

Thanks for telling about Bubble Gum ..will take a look

Saw Rowdy Rathore. Awesome in parts but the starting half an hour could have been better.
7.5/10

Sonam Kapoor was just bad? common Navrok, you know as much as anyone that she is by far the worst star offspring ever. :)

Btw, I saw Arya-2, the guy Allu Arjun is super talented. Dont he has any ambition to work in Bollywood? judging from his wikipedia page, he is a star already at Tamil cinema but never heard of him before the I saw this movie.

Aarya - 2 is a telugu movie..not Tamil. Allu Arjun is a telugu actor .(My mother tongue :D)...yeah it is good movie. Did you watch the first part..Aarya? It is a better one of two....Do you watch southern movies with subs...or hindi dubbed versions?

His next movie is releasing in 3 days...on 9th...Called "Julaayi"...Ileana D Cruz(she is star in south) who is making her bollywood debut with Barfi is the actress...

Interesting article on Bollywood and reign of Khan's.

Running on Empty

Gautam Chintamani

In Bollywood there are two types of actors – those who are run on potential and those who are fueled by courage. Some years ago courage was the thing that separated the good ones from everyone else but now it’s seems that potential is all that matters. In fact, one long look at Bollywood’s young guns and you know that more than anything else it’s their potential which makes them big.

Like most things Indians, Bollywood, too, seems to be stuck in a time wrap. Every society needs its share of heroes but when a nation is getting younger with each passing day it shouldn’t be difficult to look for new role models. Even after a quarter of a century Bollywood can’t seem to look beyond the golden threesome of Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan and for good reason. Compare them to Shahid Kapur, Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, the so-called brightest stars of the future, and you’d see why the Khans still rule. While Shahid has completed almost a decade in the business both Imarn and Ranbir are just five years old but the kind of the films that they have done in that time isn’t a patch the Khans. In his first five years Aamir Khan’s body of work included Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), Raakh (1989), Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) and Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993). Similarly Shah Rukh Khan’s interesting and successful films included Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993), Baazigar (1993), Darr (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Yes Boss (1997) and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). Now compare that to the Imran’s five-year career and what you get is one half-decent performance in Delhi Belly (2011). By contrast Ranbir Kapoor seems to be in better control of his choices like Wake Up Sid (2009), Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009), Raajneeti (2010) and Rockstar (2011).

One of the things that separate the present generation from the Khans is that unlike them the new kids don’t even guarantee a return on investment. Between the three Khans it’s only Salman who really doesn’t have either career defining box-office hits or critically acclaimed films in the early part of his career. In his first five years it’s only Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) that would enjoy a rerun today. In his first ten years barring the two his solo standout films include Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Judwaa (1997) and Biwi No. 1 (1999). His other big films from this period had Aamir or Shah Rukh as costars in Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Karan Arjun (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). In his decade long career Shahid Kapur’s Vivah (2006), Jab We Met (2007) and Kaminey (2009) are the only films worth mentioning. Some might argue that three films in a decade is not a bad average but this becomes abysmal when equated with Amitabh Bachchan’s first decade as an actor. Between 1969 and 1979 Bachchan’s body of work includes the likes of Parwana, Anand, Bombay To Goa, Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Majboor, Mili Deewar, Chupke Chupke, Sholay, Kabhie Kabhie, Hera Pheri, Amar Akbar Anthoy, Khoon Pasina, Parvaarish, Don, Trishul, Mukadar Ka Sikandar, Mr. Natwarlal, Kaala Pathar, Suhaag!

The times may have changed and Bollywood might have come a long way. Today star power is decided by the actor’s marketability in the first three days while in the olden days it could mean three weeks of even three months! So in one sense it’d be unfair to compare actors across decades but didn’t they say that a star is a star, is a star! Thus, the summation these actors’ at half a decade and a decade does make interesting argument. The older generation comes across as a blend of potential and courage while barring Ranbir Kapoor the present comes across as running on goodwill. This potential has been given far too many opportunities and the question that stares them in their faces is that even with such star power if Shahid Kapur can’t make a Mausum (2011) or Teri Meri Kahaani (2012) work is he worth the price-tag? It’s not like these stars are showing enough courage and taking risks; it’s rumored that Ranbir Kapoor repeatedly refused Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Imran Khan passed over Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai. Somewhere in between playing it safe everyone from Amitabh Bachchan to Aamir Khan took risks as actors in films like Saudagar or 1947 Earth but save Ranbir Kapoor in Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year neither Shahid or Imran really tried to do something out of the ordinary. Neither are the three delivering regular hits like Salman Khan in the earlier part of his career to justify the spotlight.

Somewhere Bollywood’s new breed needs to realise that they don’t need to fold their hand just because fate didn’t deal them a particular set of cards. Sometimes they need to risk the cards to their full potential. Shah Rukh Khan’s immense potential and a entire career would have gone unnoticed had it not been for risks called Darr, Baazigar or even Kabhi Haan, Kabhie Naa.

Browsing this thread and saw this poster of Heroine and just knew Ive seen it before. Googled it and low and behold everyone already knows about it.

Must say, when will Bollywood stop copying.

Julaayi is a guy who is careless and have no goal/ambition in his life...

yeah, watch Arya, one of the best movies in telugu...

Allu Arjun is the lead in both Arya and Julaayi and both are telugu movies....

Julaayi is releasing this 9th(i'm very excited abt it) and dont watch dubbed movies coz most of them are flop movies.

I will make a few Suggestions in both tamil and Telugu, I cannot guarantee you would like it though because of the differences in culture, and your dependency on subtitles. But I will make a guess suggest a few you make like....all are good and successfull movies though. I am not tamil..I can only suggest ones I saw...may be velu/avid learner can help

Telugu Movies

1. Bommarillu -- Starring Sidharth(Rang de basanti guy) and Genelia D souza...I haven't seen anybody who did not like this film...created a rage down south...and one of most watched telugu film by non Telugus. Story of a controlling father and a son who wants to live his life according to his wishes...lot of north indians started watching telugu films after this movie..should be a good start.

2.Athadu Starring Mahesh Babu and Trisha Krishnan and Sonu Sood in an important role -- Story of a contract killer who takes an idenitity of somebody else identity...

3. Aarya Starring Allu Arjun and anu mehtq

4. Vedam -- Starring Allu Arjun/Manoj Bajpai,Manchu Manoj,Anushka Shetty--- Individual stories of a tapori who is acting like a millionaire, a prostitute, a Indian muslim who is being harrassed by right wing hindu cop, a grandfather who wants to sell kidney, an aspiring rock star...all meet at a hospital on a fate full night and each with a back story..
5. Magadheera-- A mass masala entertainer starring Ram Charan and Kajak Agarwal..highest grossing telugu film..mainly due to period flash back 400 yrs ago...

Tamil Movies:
1. KO: Starring Jeeva and Karthika..based on a journalist...movie is dubbed in telugu as Rangam..so either of ones should work for you..
2. Ayan -- Starring Surya/Tamanna -- Story of a smuggler..
3. Aadhukulam starring dhanush and Tapsee.. very rural based movie..but a very good one..lead won national award
4. Mankatha starring Ajith and Trisha Krishnan -- based on bunch of people trying to rob money..
5. Anbe Shivam -- Starring Legendary Kamal haassan and Madhavan(3 idiots fame) -- Movie is a journey a disfigured communist and a modern guy take together..one of my favorite films..

There are lot of other movies I can think of..but this should be a good start!!

^^^^ I do not think there is any doubt in that. Its definately going to be super huge...

releasing on a wednesday(independence day in india, holiday)..followed by thursday and then weekend...and then eid...salman khan and katrina...

I will be suprised if it grosses less than 150 crores....most trade pundits are expecting it to get closer or go above three idiots though...some even expecting 400 !!

hopefully the movie is good..

Kismet Love Paisa Dilli Starring Vivek Oberai and Mallika Sherawat..

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vtqjwJdFSEQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Trailer reminded me of Abhay Deol's Ek Chalis ki Last local .....less sensible version of it though

Vivek oberai..classic example of what happens to career when involve with big wigs of the industry..salman khan and aishwarya rai...guy had a dream start with Ram gopal Varma's company and Mani ratnam's Saathiya..

This movie does not look that promising...look funny though.....but he is a main Villian in Hrithik Roshan's Krish 3...that should be a great comeback for him...

Hahaha...Salman Khan basically talking nonsense...Katrina trying to keep a straight face...but still could not.... Thumping/crumping same hain :D

Ek Tha tiger gets good to great reviews in almost all the major review sites....going to watch it in 4 hours!!!

starts superbly a box office..... 100 % occupancy in all single screens and multiplixes today...a Rare feet for even Salman Khan ...Expected collection is around 35 crores for first day...and then still there is opening weekend..and Then Eid. Only factor stopping this movie from collecting 200 + crores is if film did not work. Now that even reviews are great...not that it mattered for salman recentky...I do not see it not creating records.

Watched Ek Tha Tiger. Good entertaining action flick. Not your typical masala movie. I'll give it 3/5.
But some Pakistanis may find it offensive.

Well... Legendary Yash Chopra Directing Shahrukh Khan first time after Legendary "Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge"....16 yrs later....this time an A R Rahman Musical... .. Katrina Kaif....Anushka Sharma....With lyrics written by Gulzar..

I know the movie may be cheesy....but This will probably be the last time.. shahrukh will play a bollywood style romantic role...and most definitely Yash Chopra's Last movie by the looks of the teaser ....so many great work by Yash ji in his career.....

Hopefully it is a Kuch Kuch Hota Hain or DDLJ ....but not K3G / Kabhi Alvida.....Can't wait for the music!!

OKay. Making sure I won't miss this episode.... 90's Bollywood. Those were the days!!!! ..... So much fun.

Madhuri still

^Oh, Madhuri
She brings back so many good memories...

Anyone know if she's still working on her new film?

^^^ Yup. Two movies..

Gulab Gang which will start shooting in october..

And Dedh Ishqiya ( Sequel to Vidya Balan's Ishqiya)....both mid 2013 releases.

watched Ek Tha Tiger yesterday
the movie collected more than 30 crores 1st day in India (with more than 6 months of promotion + diwali + akon etc SRK could only get like 20 crores in 1st day)

1.5 stars for 1st Half (too slow and boring salman katrina love)
3.5 stars for 2nd Half (good action)
for average viewer = Full Paisa Vasool movie, can watch
for salman fan= absolutely watch it

romance in Ireland, action shot in destinations like Istanbul, Cuba
Cuba action scenes is one of the best action scenes i have witnessed ever in hindi cinema, sallubhai has tried his best to do action like tom cruise

it did contain some dialogues that can be offensive in Pakistan like "is duniya mein 201 mulkh hai aur tumhe sirf pakistani ladki mili"

if i were Pakistan censor board, i would cut some dialogues and surely release the movie in Pakistan
This EID, sallu fans in pakistan ki to nikal padi :-)

Ek Tha Tiger Starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif...

Watched the movie Today.

Liked the movie. Salman Khan played Salman Khan like he always does...Story was decent. Action sequences were top notch......

Movie slowed down considerable after Katrina Kaif's entry to next 25 to 30 min..... Thought the scenes in that 30 min between Katrina Kaif and Salman should have been better..more interesting. Never the less were fine....

Katrina Kaif Looked gorgeous as usual. She had more than a few stunts to do..and nice part is she looked very comfartable doing them. Looking forward to her full fledged action in Dhoom 3....Her acting has improved....but still has to if she has to do stronger roles in the future.

I would have liked a back story for both Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif..should have given a more emotional touch to the characters....

Cinematography, back ground music were good....Songs and their choreography were little disappointing..Lapaata was great to watch though...... Rest of characters were okay..played their part.

Better than any recent Salman Khan film....not as entertaining as Dabangg though...Little more emotional touch...and better 30 min after Katrina 's entry...could have made the movie better.

Rating: 3/5...One time Watch.

For Pakistanis...

I do not find anything that was offensive for Pakistan...whatever ISI did in the movie was also shown that Raw also does the same....So did not find anything specifically offensive for Pakistanis....

Katrina Kaif Spotted with Red Vermilon on her head.....Symbolic of married women ..

And then on the special screening..she is found teary eyed ..and on Salman's Shoulder....talking to Juhi Chawla I think...
