Buying shares?

IKA nice. If it breaks 60p I will buy more. Yes I increase my position as conviction increases. Sometimes the simple fact a share price increases above a certain level makes it more attractive.

'Breaking out' is a process not an event. So just because it is above 60p now does not trigger more buys from me. I will see if it closes above 60p today and then see how it retests 60p as support intraday or over coming days.

Partners; Toyota, Toshiba, Shell amongst others. Talking with the US Military......they are targeting high margin Defence markets first and then mass market consumer electronics later
 
IKA some investors starting to compare it to another concept stock NANO which is valued at c.£250m

IKA is only about £25m at the moment

Thanks for the great tip s28. I got in at 45 yesterday. Not sure how big this can be in the next 2-3 months but seems to have pi sentiment behind it now, despite the big seller.
 
Griffiths is the ex Evolution Securities guy who has been buying GCM lately so I'm hoping he has a hot hand on GCM eventually. On IKA he seems to have helped clear the overhang which stopped the rise on the day of the news. I expect he will have been given the full story regarding what the plans are going forward and I expect some serious continuing newsflow from IKA now. I will buy some more tomorrow at around 60p. It's tightly held and I don't think given the potential it is that well known about yet so once it does sign a big name commercial deal it could really go up with little resistance because it will be in uncharted territory literally. Remember it has the likes of Toyota already as partners on this battery so it shouldn't be too hard to get other big Companies to agree to licence as they have ready validation in the the form of a fellow blue chip Company.

IF you look at the chart of IKA just prior to the recent January RNSes it looks very much like CPX at the moment. So I'm also hoping at some point CPX will have some positive news and get commercialising their technology at last. If anything CPX is further ahead in their development as they have already had prototypes out at some of these big Companies so just waiting for someone to sign up to a Commercial deal now. And they have plenty of plant capacity internally and through likes of Murata.
 
IKA well this should be just the start. Still looking for some sort of retest of 60p.

How many people own a smartphone ?
How many people who own a smartphone complain about battery performance ?

This story is massive I can't believe it has not had wider coverage already.

Once it goes mainstream people will go mad for these shares. I'm expecting it to go up 100p in a day at some point.

So far Techinvest seem to have ignored IKA. It is not in their portfolio at present. New issue out this weekend. I expect them to cover IKA and CPX as both had news this month.

I think there will definitely be weekend coverage so Monday will be better time to topslice.

IKA is very illiquid so if it does get a good write up and the crowd descend on it I expect it to go up 100p in a day at some point.

My target Market Cap range is £250-500m which makes it a 10 bagger +
 
By the way, did anyone else see the Crazy ride for Blinkx yesterday?

Down 50% then gained back half of it!
 
When a stock is going up like this... setting higher highs and higher lows it suggests there is a big persistent buyer/buyers in the background from my experience

For those who don't want to pay up on a stock going vertical and already up 300% for the year have a look at CPX which is in a related field and setting up in a similar fashion to IKA just prior to its news.
 
s28 - great tip on IKA- did you buy more at .60p?

also, with CPX, can you elaborate on what they have in the pipeline - there haven't been any director deals showing on them so what makes you optimisitic?

Target is to topslice @90, and get back into PLE as FDA approval is expected soon.

RRL is dead to me as PLs ******** powers have waned. I'm thinking if moving all my GKP to XEL too.

How's your portfolio doing?
 
hi guys - i can understand the jist of the term topslice but can you explain in layman's terms and also if it there is a formula or gut of what amount to topslice out of a holding?

Topslicing is done when you are up on a share and want to release some profit, but still retain some holding in that share.

You can release as little or as much of your holding as you want, so no formula.

However, a popular strategy is to sell enough of your profit that covers your initial investment. This means you now have no risk as your money is out, and is known as a 'free ride'.

I am in and out these days.

Currently holding STGR and SCLP. Its ok so far waiting on some news. I have high hopes of stgr this year if they can produce high grade graphite in good amounts. We should soon find out in the next couple of weeks. I think they are the only graphite producer listed in UK. If the positive news flow begins, it could explode. Mcap of around £9.5m.

I had GKP and XEL but find them really frustrating. One the face of it, the best oilers on AIM but they never seem to progress on their aims. I will get back in gkp in 140s and XEL high 80s.

PLE is on my list too. I was hoping for it to drop down to sub 10p.

Recently raised at 5.5p
Options set for Management at 8.5p

Have enough cash for a year at least.

Supercapacitors for Cars and Mobile phones. Can improve batteries or replace. Seems on the face of it similar markets to IKA.

If CPX have news imminently which they could given they said they have sent prototypes to potential customers and are in licensing discussions with multiple parties then people will start to compare with IKA

PLE will go boom if FDA forthcoming so I don't mind +/- 2p.

GKP - the politics are getting even murkier with the pipeline and elections. Fear of offending GoI seems to be scaring off takeover suitors.

XEL - nearly there with DECC approval and then it will be bought out

It depends on the market. FTSE shares are easier to value as they have stable assets and profits.

AIM shares are illiquid so you are basing your decisions now on future promises and lots of risk. That is why the risk and rewards are both so high.
 
"second half rally" = your envisaging that it will pick up again after intra-day? is this correct? Sorry for all the questions on the lingo
 
@jaspa888 n other seasoned brokers/investors what about arbitrage theory says arbitrage is difficult and limited do you have any experience of doing arbitrage etc :13:

Indeed. Not that it seems to have happened in this case. :(

In many cases, when a share goes mental in the morning, many investors find their selling point and topslice, or divest completely. The SP obviously then goes down. However, a whole new set of investors, who may have been waiting for a low entry point, seize on this lower SP and buy in, sending SP back up again - often past the SP high from earlier that day.

That's why seasoned investors like s28 advise not to buy on a spike first thing in the morning, but to wait until later in the morning when you can often find a much lower entry point.

My understanding of arbitrage theory is that you can calculate the future price of share based on a set of pre-determined factors and variables.

We largely deal with AIM shares on this thread, that are illiquid, have little/no asset value, and are hugely dependent on newsflow and investor sentiment.

For this reason, it is next to impossible to ascribe arbitrage theory to these shares.
 
I think the current vogue is to value such $h!t or bust plays as simple options.

If you look at the Black-Scholes formula for valuing options one of the key determinants of price is actually volatility/risk so nothing whatsover to do with fundamentals. In the case of IKA as a simple binary option it is either worth zero or many multiples of the current price so there is scope for huge upside. The current share price is mispricing this 'optionality' because it is pricing off historic 'volatility'. But the new newsflow should lead to increased volatility going forward which is why the price should go up. Something like that. Maybe someone who understands it or cares can explain it better.

ARM supplies chips for almost every phone going and gets a small royalty per phone. ARM annual revenues about £500m. Market Cap is £13bn.

IF IKA batteries got into every phone and it got a royalty on each battery would it have similar revenue and similar valuation ? That would make IKA a 300 bagger :-p

It seems the core of Ilika's considerable current and future value is it has industrialised the process of discovering new materials. Prior to Ilika's approach, new materials were discovered in an artisan way.

Materials scientist had to educated guess the most likely best new material, create it and then test it. If it showed promise they would then have to take a decision based on limited data - do we commercialise this material or delay in the hope of finding a better one?

Ilika can mass screen new materials, try new new materials based on much more performance data, and focus in on and further refine materials in the areas showing most promise. All in a fraction of the time the 'artisan' approach would take.

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised that Ilika are now coming through with some best in class materials in a number of key mass market areas.

s28, what is the risk of dilution for IKA?

Its my biggest fear for any AIM stock!
 
ORCP - are involved in one minor block of Thar. But yes it sounds like great news. Interesting to see Zardari AND Sharif both supporting this on the same platform. Wish the morons in Bangladesh would do something for their people on the power front ! Certainly time to keep an eye on ORCP.

IKA - I am not worried about dilution personally but apparently there are some warrants which can be issued at 50p which should raise about £5m. Many are afraid of dilution but sometimes it can be a good thing it depends on what sort of shareholders the new shares go to. If the shares got to committed new holders who only say get 50% of the allocation they want they may commit to buy more in the aftermarket to support the shares going forward.

I'm planning to buy more IKA on Monday personally. But then I do generally prefer pound cost averaging http://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/dollarcostaveraging.asp

IKA - I didn't see any write-ups. Not seen any mention of Techinvest tips at all so maybe it isn't out yet?

As I'm trying to judge top ups myself thought it might be worthwhile looking at the 15 minute chart for last 5 days

Maybe looks like sellers drying up at this level ? So maybe a move up in a couple of hours when it meets the 50 period SMA line ? (or it could be buyers drying up and a move down?)

SMA Simple Moving Average
No great science to it. From the 5 day chart you can see the share price 'bounced' off the 50 period SMA before so it is just my hunch it might do again. If it doesn't that will be an indicator of failure in short term momentum so you might expect to see chart traders selling out ?
Immaterial. The Long term fundamentals is why you want to buy and short term trading is just about timing short term top ups or top slices.
 
I've bought more IKA today at 80p. Quite happy if it comes back to 60p as have intention to invest more anyway. But I don't want to risk being out if they announce a major deal or get some press coverage because i think if we go over the psychological 100p level it could go vertical.
 
s28 - loving the optimism. I agree about long term potential..it is all about a license agreement and some darn good press coverage

Stock could double in a month given the news that is expected end of the month.

A big group in Oman is buying 35% of the company


I bought into some loser stocks like ATC, MWA on advice. Also stuck in loses with KDR and SOLG.

Thinking about cashing some of those out at a loss and moving in here

What I have learned are these are the type of stocks to buy. All my losses are stocks I bought on spikes. The best ones are where there is no chatter. More the chatter = more day traders = more pump and dump

the latest RNS suggest payment will be completed on Feb 28th.

I expect the stock price to rise to that date. However I would say if you make any profits please top slice as in AIM you never know how the market will react after the news!
