So India is trailing by 356 runs and everything indicates that it will be an innings defeat for the home team. However, we all know India is a batting powerhouse and when odds are stacked against them, they mostly comes good.

After getting out for 36 in Australia, they went onto win the test series with epic performances.

Can they emulate the same here? After getting out for 46 runs in 1st innings, can they put together a historical batting performance and either win/save this test match?

Pls discuss.

Appreciate a poll if possible my dear moderators

After the 1st Pak test, anything is possible, ratchet up 600 by end of day 4 then bowl NZ out to win the test.

Its possible but not probable. 90-95% this will be a big loss for India. But there is an outside chance of scoring 500-600 so NZ have a big total to chase on the last day

Win or loss don't matter for me.. Since the famous series victory, after 36, i become so positive in my life. We can start winning after any setback..
Its hard for india to win, but atleast they are giving tough fight 👍🏻

Anything can happen in cricket, but it's unlikely.

NZ winning this if rain stays away.

Seems really tough but India should go past 400 run mark and set NZ a target of 75 in 4th inning.

still 196 overs left in the match. For India to escape with a draw or even think about winning they have to bat atleast 120 overs. I don't see it happening.. let's see.. It is very highly improbable

Kuldeep Yadav in the post-day 3 press meet:

“The spinners were getting some help when we were bowling, and hopefully, we will get more spin on Day 5. But for that, we need a good total to defend.”

"Considering our bowling attack, we will be aiming at setting an effective target. We can't predict a proper total right now as a lot of batting is still left for us.”
“We all saw how he scored 200 during the Irani Trophy. We're hoping that he slams another here. Since he is playing for India, his technique does not matter as long as the runs keep coming."

“However, he has a good technique against the spinners and doesn't let them settle down. I always feel that if a batter does not allow a spinner to settle down, he is a true batter."

“The way he was counter-attacking the left-arm spinners forced them (NZ) to bring in the pacers.”

Meh, Aussies have gone soft in the IPL era not to offend their paymasters. Couldn't and didn't in the pre-IPL era.

When you have KL Rahul don't use the word EPIC. India dropped KL Rahul for the first time in an ICC tournament in 2024 in the last 10 years. They won it. Not a surprise. He is back again. We lose it.

I don't understand the logic behind selecting kl again and again even after so many failures. Dude avg 33 after playing 50 plus test, on top of that he never performs under pressure. India should lose each and every match for choosing kl in their line up.

If India can still win or save this match without rain intervention then they would be a GOAT team. If they could fall at 46 why not the opposition?

It is possible if you have the right resources. India misread the pitch as turning track and went with three spinners. Spinners were thrashed by even Southee. Bumrah and Siraj alone cannot do much damage. You need a Shami who can consistently examine the batsmen atleast Akash deep.

Current Indian test unit do not have any batsman of test caliber like the likes of vvs or David. If this unit was batting in 2001 Aus would have won

The seam movement in that first session was near historic levels. Hard to say which batters would have survived on that or if any at all .

The Ind team has been pretty amazing for a decade bar the odd blow out but this is an ageing team. The real game will start as these guys start to get eased out. Ind have lots of talented players but they will take time to adjust

My post was based on the 2nd innings, remember the vvs David masterclass was in 2nd innings with India following on

That is not an everyday occurence in Test cricket though. Even they couldn't replicate something like that on a consistent basis.
Get your point but still I can't see any player on the caliber of vvs or Dravid in the current squad. Jaiswal is too young.

Comparing across eras especially without ball tracking back in 2001 is a bit of a futile exercise. We have no idea what the quality of bowling was or the condition of the pitch was at Eden on Day 3 and Day 4 etc.

We could just as well say that India lost this Test by allowing NZ to get 402 from 223/7 and blame the bowlers and that would be equally valid.

Also, it's unfair to Henry and O rourke who bowled superbly throughout
