There is an issue with drawing people to the grounds on week days for Tests but, I reckon people will easily turn up for odis on week days.
Can Odis be played in between Test matches on week days?
Example for a 3 TEST and 5 ODI tour:
Week 1:
Fri: TEST 1, Day 1
Sat: TEST 1, Day 2
Sun: TEST 1, Day 3
Mon: Rest
Tue: Rest
Wed: 1st ODI
Thu: Rest
Week 2:
Fri: Rest
Sat: TEST 1, Day 4
Sun: TEST 1, Day 5
Mon: Rest
Tue: Rest
Wed: 2nd ODI
Thu: Rest
Week 3:
Fri: Rest
Sat: TEST 2, Day 1
Sun: TEST 2, Day 2
Mon: TEST 2, Day 3
Tue: Rest
Wed: Rest
Thu: 3rd ODI
Week 4:
Fri: Rest
Sat: TEST 2, Day 4
Sun: TEST 2, Day 5
Mon: Rest
Tue: Rest
Wed: 4th ODI
Thu: Rest
Week 5:
Fri: TEST 3, Day 1
Sat: TEST 3, Day 2
Sun: TEST 3, Day 3
Mon: Rest
Tue: Rest
Wed: 5th ODI
Thu: Rest
Week 6:
Fri: Rest
Sat: TEST 3, Day 4
Sun: TEST 3, Day 5
Yes, there may be an issue of both Test and ODI squads being present at the same time but, it can be managed. Most of the players play both the formats. Also both set of players will have enough time to find form and comeback in the series.
One more benefit of having both squads together is, if you have a player who is doing well in odi, you can play him in the next test, this will create a larger pool of players for both the squads.
This may even reduce the number of days a tour takes place. 3 tests and 5 odis may be over in less than 6 weeks. And, t20is can be played separately.
