Long back, SAF tour of AUS 1970-71 was cancelled & ACB (CA), arranged a World tour to play against AUS. Sir Garry was captain - other members were Rohan Kanhai, Lloyd, Gavaskar, Farookh Engineer, Bedi, Intekhab, Zaheer, Asif Masood, Toni Greig, Barry Richards, Greeme Pollock, Mike Procter, Peter Pollock, John Snow ..... and Hylton Ackerman.
Players reached to Sydney with different flights from their bases. Greig, Acherman & Barry Richards (?) were coming directly from J'burg via Cairo, Singapore & they were extremely tiered. Upon landing at Sydney airport, few people from ACB came to receive them & one of that group was was an old man, keeping very low profile behind the tour manager & media people. Acherman was 23 years young, promising batsman & he called the old man, asked him to hold his bag pack, while he can have a chat with couple of Aussie players that came with the group.
The old man waited patiently with Ackerman's staff & then finally Ackerman had scope to talk to him - it went like this -
Ackerman : Thanks buddy, hope it wasn't that rough for you.
Old man : My pleasure young man, welcome to Australia.
Ackerman: You look to be quite fit for your age, are you involved with AUS cricket some how or did you play cricket?
Old man : Yes, I used to play a bit in my younger age.
Ackerman : That's nice to hear. By the way, my apologies, I forgot to ask your name - I am Hylton Ackerman, you are ...?
Old Man : Donald Gregory Bradman.
Tony Greig was over hearing them (& he knew the old man) - I am sure he had a similar expression of Azhar here ..................
